Next round of men's hockey is set
Sweden-Slovenia
Finland-Russia
USA-Czech Republic
Canada-Latvia
It's a no brainer to think the final 4 will be Sweden-Russia and USA-Canada, but I'm thinking Finland has a pretty damned good shot at beating the Ruskies
Russia put out by Finland, WOW. I knew the Russian team had some issues, but I never expected that one.
I did (see above)...the Fins are a really good team and with the Swedes lacking Zetterberg and one of the Sedin's they could very well make the Gold Medal round especially with Rask in goal.Quote:

The Russian's really under performed for most of the tournament. Goes to show that its not just about putting the best players possible on the ice: a lot of times guys just won't have chemisty and will put up underwhelming performances. Epic fail for the Russians on home turf.
Yeah the Czechs could be a live underdog against the States, personally I don't see them pulling it off, but who knows.
Ted Nolan has done a great job with Latvia. They are incredibly scrappy.

We have had some sloppy plays but we can handle a 3 goal lead from here on out. Canada meanwhile actually have a job on their hands. As much as I would love Canada to not get a medal at all I want to see their sad little Canadian faces as they are awarded bronze or nothing.
Let's see some tears canucks!!!!
If Canada loses this I think it should be the last olympics for every motherfucker on the team.
John Tavares tore his MCL and is out for the Olympics and the rest of the NHL season. He will be replaced by Martin St. Louis.
Jeez that's a real shame. I love Tavares, he's really developing into an NHL superstar. It always sucks to hear when hockey's top stars/prospects get injured like that.Quote:

Also have to mention Kristers Gudlevskis topped Oshie for performance of the olympics IMHO with his play vs Canada. Could have easily been a white-wash game with the amounts of shots and pressure Canada put on him. To be so exhausted that he could barely get up after going down for a save, and still going and making huge saves... tremendous skill and heart.
That's true too, man. The olympics are playoff-level intensity and beyond. Very risky, especially when you get a team like Latvia with nothing to lose who are going to play extremely physical and finish every check with authority.Quote:

Canada won 1-0....the US didn't play their game and this is what they get for it. You HAVE to bring the pain against the Canadians, if you don't they'll keep getting their shots off and they won't make mistakes.
It's a good thing my hockey gear hasn't arrived in time for me to get into pickup hockey games this weekend....I'm ready to crush somebody.
