It's easy to look at Roy Jones over the last 10 years while he was washed up and getting his brains rattled and say "oh yeah, a big puncher like Moorer or Foster would have his number, they'd put his lights out." Child, please. Go back and watch vintage Roy and watch vintage Foster and Moorer, and you tell me they'd land on Roy.
Roy's defense was insane. His footwork was crazy, he kept guys at range like a pro, and even on the inside guys could hardly crack his Winky Wright-style defensive shell.
And not only that, his offensive was a great part of his defense because he had serious power.
Re: Roy Jones would have beat all these idiots
How on earth do you see Jones dominating Spinks i think he barely wins a decision or Spinks knocks him the fuck out pretty much. Spinks had the reach power and chin and also through punchs in every fucking direction and was a very awkward style to fight against period.
Re: Roy Jones would have beat all these idiots
Laugh @ Bob Foster competing with Roy Jones, seriously haha..
Qawi and Roy dont belong in the same stratosphere..
Moorer was somewhat lazy, wasn't the most motivated in the gym, inconsistent, and his mental toughness was questionable.. There is no way that a guy like that is going to beat Jones.
Re: Roy Jones would have beat all these idiots
Jones was good but not great at light heavy Foster, Ezzard Charles and Spinks would beat him but maybe he could be Archie Moore.
It would be an interesting fight with Moorer but I think Jones could beat him in a classic match.

The same way he dominated most of his opponents: using his crazy speed and skill to hit his opponent and not let them hit him.
These fucking guys might as well have been trying to throw punches underwater in there against Roy Jones.
Re: Roy Jones would have beat all these idiots
How was Jones not great at 175? He went 7 or 8 years as the LHW champ and fought pretty much every worthy challenger outside of Dariusz "I only fight in Germany" Michalczewski (who went on to have his first loss to a guy Roy Jones DOMINATED).
Re: Roy Jones would have beat all these idiots
I think Whitaker is better P4P than Roy. He beat Chavez, McGirt, arguably De La Hoya, and Ramirez.
Re: Roy Jones would have beat all these idiots
Yea but the guys Jones fought were not even close to Spinks and also Spinks never lost to anyone at Lhw Jones was having some serious problems with Montel. Spinks was a one of kind fighter himself as well don't think Jones had much to trouble him because even with speed he had less reach and height. Not to mention Spinks hit like a truck and pretty good timing as well to go with it. Dm lost to the guy jones beat when he was 35 years old almost 36 is Taver better then Jones because he knocked him the fuck out at 36 years of age come on now. Spinks beat everyone in his divsion and when he moved up he didn't fight a belt warmer he beat the Lineal champion for the heavyweight crown which says something Since that was not done in over 77 years guy was champion in both and lineal one at that as well.
Re: Roy Jones would have beat all these idiots
Also Dm was the man to unify and be the champ because he did beat Hill before Jones. Dm beat a lot good challengers Lhw and only lost when he hit like 35 or 36 like Jones did so i do not see why that should be a reason that Roy never fought the guy. Do not like how Jones gets a pass when should of fought the best he was a phenom but come on he missed out on a lot of fights and think some of the blame should be on him for not all of it but should hurt his legacy a tad like anyone else.

Re: Roy Jones would have beat all these idiots
Also i not saying that the current crop can win but if Montel can take as many rounds as he did off Jones in there first fight which he was winning before the dq i am sure they can get a round. Jones was fantastic fighter but i think he gets way overblown especially when people start saying he could dominant someone like Spinks who i think would most likely beat Jones he being tad over rated. Say what you want but getting iced by Taver and knocked out Johnson even a tad out prime doesn't make me think you can beat every great with ease. Also say what you want but Dm but he was the unified champ before Jones was why did he have to Leave. Then people act like it doesn't matter if they fought because later in his career he lost at 35 to someone Jones beat. Look at how well 36 year old Jones did when got around that age he was getting iced.

Yeah Roy Jones was one of a kind, an absolute physical and mental freak in the world of sports, and it's a damn shame that people don't appreciate him more.
His only flaw is that he was TOO good. In completely dominating all of his opposition and making them look like complete shit, he gave the world the impression that his opposition WAS complete shit.
People can say he fought shit opposition (anyone who really knows boxing from the 90s knows that isn't true), but ok, assuming he fought no one that could even compare to other past greats at 175, I'll use this analogy: if you go to some college track meet in some small town in Nowhereville, and you see a motherfucker run the 100m in 9 seconds flat but the other guys racing him were running 11s, are you going to disregard the 9 second guy because he was racing against lesser opposition? Of course not!
Even if Roy Jones was fighting soccer moms his whole career, anyone with two eyes and a brain can see that his speed was second to none in the history of boxing P4P (there was nobody Roy's size who was faster in the history of boxing), his reflexes were second to none, his boxing IQ was off the charts, ect ect.
Styles and skill make fights, and Roy's style and skill tears up any of these dudes. Bob Foster was a bad man but he's not touching Roy with that left hook. We're not talking about Dick Tiger or Mike Quarry. Anyway I'll leave it at that!
YALL MUSSA FORGOT
Re: Roy Jones would have beat all these idiots
I think you have it backwards, pretty much everyone agrees that Roy was a special talent. The argument starts when fanboys try and rewrite history and say that wins over Lou De Valle, Virgil Hill, Tony Thornton, Glenn Kelley...etc. show that all time greats like Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Michael Spinks, and Bob Foster wouldn't stand a chance. Additionally, you lose credibility when you say Roy's competition at 175 was solid and he made them look bad. He fought guys who were part time cops, garbage men...etc. or way past their prime types like Mcallum and Hill.
I will say that Roy had the gifts to give anyone in history problems and score some major wins, but the guy stopped pushing for greatness after Toney and should be the underdog vs true all time greats.
