Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
I woke up this morning and my first thought was still disbelief that this fight got made. Big balls by Khan but he's basically just the Cinco de Mayo 2016 version of Josesito Lopez.
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Khan doesn't have the ring IQ or defense to do what Floyd or even Lara did.

Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Brooks must be pissed really but can not say it.
Kell Brook admits Amir Khan has made a shrewd move in agreeing to fight Saul Alvarez and is still hopeful of a clash in the future.
Khan (31-3-KO19) and IBF world welterweight champion Brook (35-0-KO24) had been involved in lengthy negotiations with a view to clashing at Wembley in the summer, but Khan has signed up elsewhere.
The Bolton fighter, 29, has agreed to take on WBC world middleweight champion 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1-KO32) at a catchweight of 155lbs in Las Vegas on May 7.
Reacting to the news, Brook told Sky Sports News HQ: "I don't know if he's cashing himself in or what but I don't believe he thinks he can win. That's me being honest. He'll lose in that fight.
"They can always come back down and fight the welterweights of the world. If he'd got in with me, which we all expected, I'd definitely end his career.
Him fighting at middleweight against Canelo, he can always say 'the guy was too big for me. I thought this and I thought that.' He can come up with that and drop back down so it's win-win for Khan I think.
"It's [Khan v Brook] always going to be on the table. It's a good move he's done. With the demand we still have to sit down and talk. As much as I'd like to say 'get lost', with the demand from fans all over the world, they'll still want to see that fight."
Next up for Brook is mandatory challenger Kevin Bizier, who he hosts in Sheffield on March 26, live on Sky Sports.

Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
Looking at Khan's inactivity since Garcia and some of the questionable performances and opposition, I think this must be a cashing out fight. If Khan was really hungry he would be busier. It makes no sense to take this fight beyond the pay day. All it takes is a Canelo flurry to have Khan on queer street. So strange.

Having thought more about this one, I don't like it much anymore and almost agree with Brook:p
Putting aside what you think of the match and Canelo taking it, these guys are almost opposites, style vs substance. Khan is so fast that people get it confused with being skilled, Alvarez has plodding feet so people assume he is without them. Canelo is actually a considerably better boxer imo, I'd be shocked if Khan could do much in this one.

For some reason, I didn't even think about this being PPV. That makes it an even bigger joke.

The gravy train continues. A bloated record built on mostly has-beens and woefully undersized fighters. What a horrific farce! I've said it before and I'll say it again...... Canelo and JCC Jr. have a lot more in common than just their nationality.
Pathetic.
Why bring JCC Jr. up? That makes no sense and literally all they have in common is their nationality.
Canelo's resume is fine, and he's 25 years old. Mayweather, Lara, Trout, Cotto and Kirkland is really elite competition and JCC has nothing close to that. You're discrediting any point you are attempting to make with that comparison.
Anyways, this fight kind of sucks. I would not have a problem with this if Canelo wasn't on the 2 fight a year schedule but it seems like that's the case. If this fight was occurring in late March or early April, I would have no problem. But it's not, it's in May on the premier day of the boxing calendar. Hopefully the September fight will more than make up for it.
This wouldn't be a big deal if he wasn't the Middleweight champion. He should be a Super Welter or a Middleweight but he shouldn't really be something in between but that is the reality of our current landscape and it did not start with Canelo Alvarez. It started with Mayweather (I think) and Canelo was once put at a disadvantage by this by having to go to 152. If this fight (Khan) is going to be made, I'm actually happy for this catchweight because if Canelo could come in at 160 then this would have a lot less excitement.
Fight isn't going to play out very well for Khan though. He still fights with way too much nervous energy and Canelo doesn't waste too much movement and he should be able to slice right through him. Can't see Khan moving Canelo backwards nor can I see him being able to keep the fight in the center of the ring and connect enough to win enough rounds to win this. I think Canelo will be installed at +550 or so and if it's lower I'll actually bet a favorite which I never do.
Like I said though, his past 5 opponents (excluding Angulo I guess) have been as solid as anyone in boxing's right? He would have an easier time getting a free pass if he didn't only fight twice a year.
An old past his prime Mayweather embarrassed him Lara also beat him in my opinion and a lot of people also thought he got beat. Trout lost a very close fight and some feel he won and I really don't rate trout that much at all. An old way past his prime cotto lost a close fight again but got completely done over on the score cards that fight was a lot closer. So that just leaves Kirkland who he beat well and let's be honest kirklands shit so his resume is very suspect to say the least. Khan also only gets kod when he decides to stand and trade somthing he's not going to do against Canelo so should he box clever it should be a 9-3 10-2 type of fight for Khan cause Canelo is shite against people who can box with speed
You can call him an old past his prime Mayweather or you could say he was the best fighter in the sport at the time. Either one works depending on what point you're trying to make.
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
24 hours later I hate it even more ;D Can't believe a few are buying into it. Now I get rooting for a hometown bwoy or Countryman but the 'Khan gets massive respect for this' has to goooo. Khan is a victim of his own star struck infatuation, he got so stuck on chasing a mega fight with Mayweather he got stuck in tunnel vision. A CW or division jump against stacked odds is one thing IF a guy does work and takes names in his already stacked division first. Khan has been in limbo and done what...Alexander? Respect comes when you give yourself the best possibility of victory and maximizing your best assets. When you do work and face existing challenges. Bloating to 155 lbs will cost him his cherished speed, that body will be worked on brutally and he might as well be tossing snowballs at a Canelo who will undoubtedly be 180 ish come fight night. What happened here is Khan answered the phone and was told he won the lottery, that's it. He saw event and cash that has eluded him..partially his own fault and is jumping the shark here. Then on the other end Canelo and Oscar hung up the phone and proceeded to roll on the floor laughing there arses off! Probably still there. Chris Algieri bulled Khan, he backed him throughout and rocked Khan at least once. Chris Algiei! Also..Canelo should be pointed at and laughed at for bringing cherry picking to a whole new level.
This is when boxing turns into Reality TV boxing with built in excuses, huge paydays for both and a wink and nod to each other. Don't drink the Kool aid...and its PPV :LOLATYOU: (Oscar) :spam: (Canelo) :thankyouthankyou::fight: (Khan)

I agree. At first I was thinking 'downright odd but something different', but the more I think of it it is a piss take mismatch. Canelo should be ashamed at this. Khan clearly has balls and dollar signs flashing around his head, but that's not enough to warrant what will likely be a nasty beat down. I don't like Khan and it is always funny seeing him lose, but this could be just downright cruel and that's a step too far. It's not right.
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
When I heard of this I thought , oh that's an interesting fight, then I remembered alvarez is the middleweight champion :S..... Pretty bad match up and I don't think it is going to go well for khan at all but hopefully canelo wins in style and hbo keep pushing for the golovkin alvarez fight afterwards..
I do like how khan refered to it as a fight for the 155lb title :S
Re: Amir Khan to fight Saul Alvarez for WBC world title in Las Vegas
You know who I really respect? Algeri because he fought pac for a career high payday. You know who else? Berto fighting mayweather for a career high payday. Those two went against the best and the odds were stacked against them but they took the fight anyways. Even though they did make a ton of money, and got exposure, they took the fight because they are tough, respectable fighters.
So don't go thinking khan is just about the money and exposure. He is for sure doing it because he is tough and wants to fight the best. I know this because he fought all of the top welters and cleaned them out and now fighting a middle is his only option left.

This thread is already 6 pages long. If you like the fight or not it's already brought major interest

Co-signed. Khan gets shitted on by a lot people. Now he decides stop calling out Mayweather and accepts a challenge in which the odds and physical advantages are stacked against him, he still gets heat for it.
Why take the Kell Brook fight if it's still going to be there anyway regardless of the outcome of this fight? You can't accuse him of ducking Brook either because he's fighting Canelo Fucking Alvarez instead.
