The only group I would think of comparing them to is Air Supply, and even they sound a bit better in comparison.
I hear ya tits. I'm not into The Beach Boys but my understanding is that pet sounds is an excellent album. Don't forget it was one of The Beach Boys that discovered Charles Manson. Charlie had met, I beleive it was Brian Wilson at the same house that Roman Polanski later occupied. It is suspected that's who Manson wanted to kill as they never called him back. Basically, The Beach Boys killed a lot of people and the Beatles get blamed for it

That'll be Dennis Wilson, I think that it was in in the book Helter Skelter that I read about it (fucking brilliant read by the way, I highly recommend it)
Apparently Wilson let a couple of girls stay at his house with him and then they introduced him to Charley and Wilson had a small almost infatuation with him, he was intrigued more than anything, more and more girls ended up moving into the house (about 16 if I remember rightly) and Charley started making thinly veiled threats towards Wilson (something to do with a bullet but I can't remember exactly what) Wilson went ape shit and moved out of the house and just left them lot living in it.
Re: Are the Beatles overrated?
How can you discuss great singers and not have Barry Manilow on here?

Oh @Master
Well you came and you gave without taking
But I sent you away, oh Master
And you kissed me and stopped me from shaking
And I need you today, oh Master
Re: Are the Beatles overrated?
The beatles are the greatest band in history, no doubt
quality and quantity
Dylan was good, made 2 or 3 good albums, not memorable but good
Rolling Stones were good, made 2 or 3 good albums with some anthens
neither are anywhere near the beatles, dylans best song wouldn't get in the beatles top 30

The Freewheelin
Times they are a changin
bringing it all back home
blonde on blonde
highway 61
blood on the tracks
all fucking amazing albums
even some of his later efforts like Time out of mind, Love and theft amd Modern times were great considering that he was 113 years old at the time they were released

Dennis had an interesting vibe on his own kind of sounded like Joe Walsh

Always liked Joe Walsh as well, he gave Jimmy Page his first Les Paul didn't he, well depending on what story you believe, he either gave it him or Jimmy stole it.

Even though queen are one of my favourite bands of all time (see my post at the start of this thread) Brian May is a poodle headed pompus moonbat (@Brocktonblockbuster cheers for bringing the word moonbat into my vocabulary)
I think the story is that Joe Walsh showed his Les Paul to Jimmy Page at a party and later on returned and Page and the guitar was gone, when they met at a later date Page gave him £500, I don't think he actually asked Walsh if he was alright with it though, I think it was more pity money than anything.
Re: Are the Beatles overrated?
Saw joe Walsh here in Connecticut he was so drunk everyone walked out he couldn't play
Re: Are the Beatles overrated?
I think I'm much older than most people here. I remember when the Beatles came to America. All I can say is that there was nothing like them before or since. I know there are many bands who are outstanding. How many bands can you name that broke up 47 years ago and are still being talked about today? Or there records sell like there new. One billion people can't be wrong. In my mind they are not overrated. 100 years from now people will still be talking about them.
Re: Are the Beatles overrated?
1 billion people can be wrong as Justin Bieber continues to prove. However, the Beatles had some tunes.
Re: Are the Beatles overrated?
I've never been a big Beatles fan at all, save for a few songs on the white album. However, I think that their impact and their influence over the musical scene is absolutely staggering!

Could not have said it better. They may not have been the best band of all time. But every great band wants to be them. There influence is still being felt today.
