And Miguel's ability to destroy a natural WW shows more than he can beat Quintana, it shows his skill set and power has not diminished on the move up. Hatton's move-up was not as impressive and until you see him fight someone else at WW (with adequate preperation of-course) I don't see how you could pick Hatton over Cotto at this point.
I don't see how you can pick Cotto over Hatton after only seeing
a few clips of Ricky :headscratch:
Your opinion is completely subjective then as your basing purely on seeing one fighter.
You won't change your mind cos ignorance is bliss. That's not a slight you understand but it's difficult to argue a point regarding these two now knowing that you actually don't know any different.
Lets stick to Cotto cos for me the Hatton debate ends here.
I have seen enough of both fighters to make my own personal educated conclusion based on what I have witnessed from both fighters.
Folks are not even debating the issue with clarity or respect to the thread.
Hatton v Cotto@147-what do you think?

Both Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton have tomatoes in their first ten matches. That is the way the game begins.
Both fighters have decent resumes.
Both fighters have taken out fighters which Floyd Mayweather could not.
Side Note:
Floyd Mayweather later went around beating fighters that Kostya Tszyu beat down.
My honest assessment is that the early Cotto even though he would be less experienced at the time could give Ricky a hell of a fight.
I am talking about the Cotto of 2004 Light Welterweight.
The Cotto of 2006 Light Welterweight (drained and struggling to make weight) would get sparked by Ricky. (sorry cotto) :-[ I still would not count my boy out because of that punchers chance.
But this is about Cotto vs Hatton @ Welter Weight 147.
Cotto can hack it at 147. he proved that last week. Ricky made a conscience decision dropping back down to 140 and by doing so, tells the world especially himself that he is not the same Ricky Hatton at 147 that he is @ 140. and this speaks volume. In closing Ricky can not hack it at 147 and thus gets beat down by Cotto in the Welter Weight Division. How can I not come up with any other conclusion based on both fighters debut performances. Until Ricky comes back to 147 and shows something more than he did against Collazo, I have to rest my case.
Ruling goes to Cotto by KO over Ricky Hatton @ 147.
Case closed and court is dismissed.
CC 253!! Thats it folks!!
Hatton beats Cotto at 140 but thats not Cotto anymore. Cotto is 147 and he beats Ricky at 147 because Ricky is not Ricky at 147. PHEW!

Agreed... The only other thing I can say is Mayweather has gotten way better since that fight which is scary...His defense and shoulder rolls have gotten that much better.... It would be one hell of a fight if they finally got together ;)

Disagree. Hatton doesn't win a single round.

Re: Hatton v Cotto@147-what do you think?
At 147 or 140,after seeing Floyd's last few fights,NO FOOKING WAY he stops Hatton and he has never faced anyone with the intensity, with the pace and ferocity of Hatton. Hatton would bang him to thebody like no one else has and although I'd favour Floyd to win,I DO not see a stoppage,no way. I mean if Floyd is going to break his hands after throwing a handful of pot shots at Baldo which landed mostly on his face not his head, how is he going to stop Hatton?
I DO believe that Floyd would win though but it would make for a good fight possibly slightly scruffy.
-
Re: Hatton v Cotto@147-what do you think?
Fact: Cotto beats Hatton @ 147 (Due to Hattons weight)
Fact: Hatton beats Cotto @ 140 (Due to Cottos weight)
I say they meet half way at 143-1/2 lbs..... 8)

Re: Hatton v Cotto@147-what do you think?
Hatton has trouble staying at 140 as well...let us not forget that.
I just think it's a fight everyone deserves to see, Hatton fans, Cotto fans, fans of neither fighter....it would be an awesome fight

If Hatton has trouble staying at 140, I wonder why he's going back down. Must be a reason...
I would have to agree with you a very good fight nevertheless. I would think Cotto, but both fighters will get hit often.

He's never looked close to struggling, it may happen soon, but for now he's so strong at the weight.

Judah?
he beat judah first, then baldomir second
even the most diehard hatton fan has to acknowledge that baldomir was the linear ww champ (before pbf)
so let me ask you this................
judah vs. urango at 140 or 147?
who wins that fight?
seriously, dont compare urango to judah ;)

Re: Hatton v Cotto@147-what do you think?
Hatton at 140 does exceptionally well, but we all saw how he does against the bigger boys and we all know thats why he ran back down to jr. welter! Cotto had many problems making the weight at 140 & at 147 man can he crack? He still has some glitches that he has to work out but against Hatton at 147 he would look very impressive & INO he would score a KO/TKO!!!!

Sac. Town is in the HOOOD!!!
Whats good N.Side?
Was that a body shot? Or was that a body shot?
-
Re: Hatton v Cotto@147-what do you think?
That was a devastating bodyshot! INO hatton has never given one like that! also he did it to a bigger man who was not only undefeated but a natural Welterweight!
-
Re: Hatton v Cotto@147-what do you think?
Northside mate hatton has been giving shots like that his whole career. bull blooded hooks to the body. have you ever seen him fight mate? cos that was a crazy statement to make.

Northside you owe me ten cool clicks you muther funster. Welcome back. What did you make of Jeff ;D

Ever seen him between fights??? Seems like it would be a struggle to lose that much weight...he doesn't look gaunt like Morales because he can't lose anymore color he's already white as white can be

Judah has all the talent in the world but he has squandered it all with a bad attitude

My My Cotto is certainly getting his dick sucked on here. At 147 he wins. At 140 he gets beat. 140 is Hatton's territory. He beats anyone at that weight. We'll see how good Cotto is at welter when he gets hit by a puncher. Torres and Corley almost fucked him. I just don't see how a win over Quintana can even compare to beating Kostya Tszyu. Its not even any better than beating Collazo. With that said, i like Cotto but Quinatana hurt him with body shots s he's not invincible.

You haven't seen enough of his fights then. Also Quintana carries his elbows too far forward.
-
Re: Hatton v Cotto@147-what do you think?
Hatton has given some good bodyshots but even the die hard Hatton fans must admit that Cotto can crack to the body!!!
I like both fighters they are both very exciting to watch and they are great for the sport....I think a fight between them only happens at 147....Cotto just can't make 140 anymore, also at 147 Hatton is an unknown due to the fact that Collazo is a tough guy only KO'd once before and that was by a legit welterweight with good pop.
Collazo needs to get in with more top teir welters and then we can judge him better.
As for Hatton's troubles with him....that can happen for any number of reasons, not to make excuses but here are a couple of reasons why Ricky might not have done so well:
1. Hatton may not be a true welterweight
2. Hatton fought the wrong fight
3. Hatton didn't fight in his normal style
4. Hatton didn't train hard enough
5. Hatton was injured in training
6. Hatton was sick
and it could go on forever....Ricky maybe just had an off night, Collazo maybe had a great night which if he did wasn't THAT impressive. Hatton won the fight fair and square in my opinion and it's a shame such a big deal was made over it that Ricky moved back down in weight, I think he had it in him to be a good welterweight and he should have stayed if for anything else just to chase Floyd Mayweather Jr.

No doubt. And as for Hatton having an off night, I'm not sure, I think that it could well be that Collazo is better than we all thing. I hope he fights Mosley.

Hatton has NEVER struggled to make 140lb
Why is it that people are moaning about hatton dropping back down to 140lb? This is his natural division, he ONLY went to 147lb because it was the only fight available that HBO would accept. He never intended on staying there, it was a one off as there were no other options at 7 weeks notice.
In regards to cotto, i agree with most.......@ 147 cotto wins, at 140 hatton wins. We need this fight at 143lbs. What a fight that would be.
For the record i also think cotto beats mayweather at 147 and hatton beats mayweather at 140. Its just a shame that Oscar is going to take his '0' before cotto or hatton can.
