Sorry...I didn't see that you asked me that...if I had...I'd answered you right quick...COTTO.
Well then that's a good sign, I think it shows that Hatton is in Cotto's league right now.
You know...that's something I've wrestled with since day one.
The thing is, while I am a HUGE fan of Cotto, there are still waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many unanswered questions for me...not being a fan of Hatton's...well there are more unanswered questions there, but I think that a match between the two would close the queries.

Agreed. Ive warmed again to the possibility of this fight. Give Hatton a warm up at 147 and then let it be considered!

Hatton vs Floyd at 147 is career suicide for Hatton. Hatton is best suited at 140lbs & Floyd was extremely stout at both 147 & 151ish. If Hatton wants to do it for me & gain a load of fans...dominate 140lbs just like Hopkins did with 160lbs...that would be the stuff.
I'd love it...& he could do it.
I'd love to see Hatton vs Witter, Harris, Malignaggi, M'baye, & Torres.
IWO, those 5 wins would make Hatton an all timer. Moving up to 147 proved to be a mistake...he shouldn't compound it by facing Floyd @ 147.

Just finished watching the fight. I agree that Hatton should stay at 140, he's too small for that division and if he had troubles with Collazo, he'd be in trouble against the best of 147.

It seemed apparent that Hatton was back to form this go 'round & that he was focused for the challenge.
Maybe he is one of those fighters that needs to rise to the occassion & the better the man across the mat from him the better he himself will perform...but I agree with you 100% due to the Collazo factor.

I quite like Hatton and this was a fantastic performance, but I can't see him beating a Margarito, or a Mayweather. He's just too small. This was a great fight though, my eyes damn near popped out of my head when he stopped Castillo. Never in a million years did I think that would happen. Hatton just looked too quick and too powerful for Castillo.

collazo again: slick southpaw hard to deal w/ but...
i agree and have said 140 is the natrual weight of hatton.. and he should stay there, but malignaggi is the only fight i would like to see the other fights will just be made out to seem meaningless anyways..
i think he will be forced to 147 to face cotto, margo, or mayweather
and i've already said hatton can go toe to toe with cotto (cotto leaves himself open for left hooks to the body) and i think he could beat margo (i thik margo is a little overrated) but i think mayweather would probably beat cotto or hatton (but not for long)...

Either youv'e never been punched in the liver...or youv'e never been punched in the liver.
Hatton is one of the most devastating body punchers in the game today @ 140lbs & Castillo took about 4 of those before he buckled....again...I aint a Hatton fan...but he did step up against Castillo & just 3-4 fights ago everyone was on the man's jock.
If Corrales ruined him in their first fight like many say...there was enough of Castillo left to knock Corrales the fwock out in their next fight & ugly or not...Castillo won his following bouts up until getting stopped tonight.
As I said...Castillo was on the slide...but not the dead fish you all are saying he is.
It's wrong to dismiss him that way because it discredits Hatton.
What's funny is that there's more stink here than there is when Hatton stopped Maussa.
Re-gotdam-dick-ulous...but...this is boxing & if we all agreed...well what fun would that be?
It looks like you are believing a little of the hype on hatton now huh ;D ...
thanks for giving your honest opinion and for not hating on hatton for a quick stoppage... i know you was saying castillo was on the slide so that could have been your out, but i think your post fight analysis was dead on as always... you give credit where credit is due...
great rbr as always THE GREATEST RBR COMMENTATOR/POSTER IN NORTH AMERICA AND EUROPE :WACKO
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds! Hatton vs Castillo!!!
Hey,I called this as soon as the fight was announced. Ricky was stronger, faster, younger, more relentless and it showed. JLC may have been on the slide but he was not shot, It was moving to 140 and not having the strenght and size advantage he did at 135..Hatton was just too much for him.
And to anyone saying Hatton does not deserve credit for this fight and that JLC was shot: If you are going to say that then Oscar was shot too, by those standards... ;)
With regards to Cotto Hatton, Cotto would have beat JLC even quicker and at 147,it's Cotto's world. He hits harder to the body than Hatton,Hatton has more of a cumulative effect. It would be a good fight but before this fight, I favoured(as did most) Cotto and this fight has done nothing to change my mind. Remember,Hatton had advantages over JLC in early every department for this fight,he would not have most of those advantages at 147 and certainly not v Cotto who is younger, bigger, stronger and hits harder.
As for Floyd, stay retired son. Or stick to calling out guys you've just beaten. Regardless of whether you think Floyd can beat Hatton,Cotto,Margarito,Mosley(I think he would be favourite in all of these fights but I wouldnt rule the other guy out), he wants NOTHING of these guys. If he were to fight one,it would be Mosley and the chances of that are slim too. We don't need someone with that attitude around. As much as I love to watch him fight, even the most ardent of Floyd fans would have to be blind to say that those fights are not worth making.

C'mon Boss lets be fair, this isint even a shell of the Former Castillo that just laid down for the 10 count... We all know that
did you the the hopkins-DLH fight... it ended the same way and the expression on DLH and castillo's face after they got hit by the body punch was identical, and they stayed down looking like they might not be that hurt but that pain dont go away for minutes...
when you get hit with that shot like that, its like getting hit in the ba!!s you feel it throughout your back and stomach... your whole mid-section of your body locks up..
castillo in his prime would have hit harder and faster but would have still gotten hit by that same punch sooner or later.... hatton hits harder than anyones casatillo has faced.... that was his punch(left hook) that registered a half a ton or what ever it was
floyd or cotto would have been down for 12 on that shot.. i'm not sure if he could get to floyd but he could get to cotto(but not without taking a beating)..
he would destroy gatti.... big money and exposure fight though.. if gatti wins his next fight... gatti would be easier than malignaggi for sure

D'oh!!
I fell asleep at 1.30am and woke at 6!!
Luckily I taped it!
Great fight. The key for Ricky was always the body shot and what a shot!!
I dont think America has ever seen anything like Ricky Hatton Inc!!!

WHAT A 4 ROUNDS O0
Absolute killer left to the body and i don't know of anyone even at Welter who could have taken that shot.
Perfect Punch that sickened Castillo and he looked fine to me in the 3rd.
Rickys footwork is so underated and his incredible lateral movement make him look super fast which n turn made JLC look slow at times.
That was the real Hatton last night and he fought like a maniac and done us more than proud.
Fantastic for UK boxing and World boxing and he really is one of the most exciting fighters to watch imo (maybe the most) when he fights like that.
I don't wanna see him in with Mayweather next and watch him chasing shadows,i wanna see him in an absolute tear-up (where he belongs) with Cotto.
Thats the fight for the true Hardcore fan imo!
No one can deny Hatton is da bomb now and anyone who does is simply a charlatan of a fan.
Wonder if he's still on the lash ;D

I don't know why Tszyu should be brought to mind since Zab was stopped by the "Thunder from Down Under" and Cotto also took care of him... What Ricky achieved with this is an exciting fight on the making with Miguel, a natural punch-fest give and take thriller that simply should have had happened at 140 lbs and now there's no reason for not happening at 147 lbs, both Ricky and Miguel have held major titles at junior welter and the WBA Welter title, both are unbeaten and about the same height and style, gat to happen or else something is very wrong with the boxing mobster agents here... Hatton Malignaggi? For a tune-up and another Light Welter title? Hatton Mayweather? That's a stupid way to make Floyd pay for his dirty mouth... Cotto Mayweather? Miguel doesn't need a hit and run, slick defensive master... It's Cotto Hatton and Mayweather Mosley!

Great comment, dat absolutely sums it up - I said that weight drained JLC with get depleted as soon as would fight back hard and would get overconfident on his own experience and conditioning, you cannot rationalize on your physicality prior to the bout, at least not the way Ngoudjo pressed him back before, I thought he would sustain the more than certain sharper, faster, stronger wild Hitman's attack until the mid-stage and then would be taken by Ricky's 2nd gear come-back fire by the 9th. A 4th round body shot even though a lil bit premature TKO win ( by the hands of Cortez who else?) puts Hatton on the center stage of a Hardcore Hard-Rock Spitfire Puerto-Rican British clash with Miguel Cotto and the riddle Mayweather will be solved by a more careful technical approach in Mosley...

Absolutely, You are right, he was counted out or in another words, JLC said "No Mas" in gestural language... I think he got the payday and was in there to see how did it feel to trade with Ricky so that he could fight back as Ricky would tire, he fought back hard for a very short time and got depleted in the 1st quarter of the fight... What I meant was that I knew he would try to sustain it and sap Ricky's energy holding, hitting low and at the clinch and try to come back later but at that time, JLC would feel depleted, the cumulative effect of Ricky's blows or whatever - It was as much of the blow itself as from those other factors
-

loved the fight but thought that taking a point away for a low blow was bullshit at that point.

what???? no disrespect to you but i dont hardly understand your point or analysis of the fight... hatton just blew him out.. JLC wasnt tired...
the blow itself was a vicious left hook to the body that took castillo breath away and and locked up his mid-section..
anyone who has watched boxing years knows that left hook to the liver is one of the most debilitating blows one person can take...
that was a LOUD, THUDDING, FLUSH SHOT.
"THE PERFECT SHOT" IS WHAT CASTILLO CALLED AND HE IS THE ONE THAT FELT IT......

But neither of these posts answer the question.
Did Hatton win by KO or TKO?
This is a technical question based on fact and not subject to opinion. Well, everything is disputable and therefore subject to opinion, but I'm not asking about anyone's opinion.
Officially ... was it a TKO or a KO? Was he down for the entire count and therefore "counted out" (that would be a KO) or did he make it back up but indicate to Joe Cortez that he couldn't/didn't want to go on, and Joe waived it off, ending the fight and giving the victory to Hatton (that would be a TKO)
BTW, though I had a soft spot and hopes in my heart for Castillo, my vote in this thread was Hatton by KO ...
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds! Hatton vs Castillo!!!
It was a KO. Cortes counted to 10.

Ricky Hatton its time to step up and fight someone that really counts only then will we know how good he is
Either youv'e never been punched in the liver...or youv'e never been punched in the liver.
While I am not a fan of Hatton or his style...I'm thrilled for him & his fans & he gave a lot to boxing this weekend...just as Cotto did...just as Castillo did...just as Judah did. I think that people forget the fact that it takes two champs to make such amazing fights & Castillo gave all that he had...it just wasn't enough.
I've always said that Hatton was effective & that he was good at what he does...I just aint a fan of that bull & brawl & clench style of his...but it worked & n o matter what them tools @ HBO say...that was a good fight & Castillo didn't have a gotdam cane in the ring with him. ;D :coolclick:

Absolutely, You are right, he was counted out or in another words, JLC said "No Mas" in gestural language... I think he got the payday and was in there to see how did it feel to trade with Ricky so that he could fight back as Ricky would tire, he fought back hard for a very short time and got depleted in the 1st quarter of the fight... What I meant was that I knew he would try to sustain it and sap Ricky's energy holding, hitting low and at the clinch and try to come back later but at that time, JLC would feel depleted, the cumulative effect of Ricky's blows or whatever - It was as much of the blow itself as from those other factors
what???? no disrespect to you but i dont hardly understand your point or analysis of the fight... hatton just blew him out..
BTW, though I had a soft spot and hopes in my heart for Castillo, my vote in this thread was Hatton by KO ...
pure knockout!!!
cortez was trying to get hatton back so he didnt count like the first 5 counts i think but he was pretty much screaming the numbers in his face at 7, 8, and so on...
castillo didnt get of his knees for atleast a minute

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds! Hatton vs Castillo!!!
Ricky Hatton did very well last night. Castillo reminded me of Rosendo Alvarez (against Jorge Arce) and Mark Johnson (against Jhonny Gonzalez). In the fact that he got old. Still Hatton deserves credit for his win. He is a better fighter when he fights, rather than hold.

No disrespect to you too or to any Hatton supporter but... What the hell happened really? JLC quit and I am glad that he did so for his sake... Listen, I am a former fighter and nowhere in the world you get hurt by a left hook to the so-called soft spot or to the liver, take a knee and breathe like that... In gestural language, Castillo said "No Mas" like Duran did against Leonard, regardless of the TKO or KO decision, because he wouldn't keep up the pace with the much younger, stronger, energetic Hatton as soon as he would lose all his energy fighting back, he fought back for a round or so and gave up, had nothing left... For me, it is a body shot KO as much as B-Hop vs ODLH was in 2004 and I am not sayin it was "fixed", sorry guys!

CC VD. I read all your predictions and pre fight comments and it takes a big man to come back when he is proved wrong. I'm being serious by the way. Well done

The name is Francisco Lobo, fought as a super-welterweight and a middleweight in Portugal from 1990 to 1996, record 7-1-1, had to quit due to a very bad eye injury and to finish my engineering course in Lisbon, Portugal. Now I am 35 years old and 168 lbs, still train and spar, write me to nambu82003@yahoo.com.br... Now on the Hatton Castillo, never, never a guy badly hurt in the rib cage has the time to turn away, walk a couple of meters and take a knee with the coolest of looks, even if you are experienced that never happens, JLC just wanted to say enough of that...

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds! Hatton vs Castillo!!!
I was shocked that Castillo went down from a body shot and did not get up. It was a great shot right behind the elbow, but you know that Castillo has taken his share of those before and toughed it out. From the first round Castillo did not look good, his punches were pretty slow and lacked pop. He did look better in the 3rd and 4th, but then he got caught with that body shot and that was it. I didn't think Castillo was shot going into the fight and British Troll deserves some definite credit for beating the hall of famer, but now I would say Castillo is either shot or damn close. I don't see Castillo beating any of the elite fighters out there right now, less he was just totally weight drained or something in that fight.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds! Hatton vs Castillo!!!
Hulk, Castillo barely passed by Ngoudjo and he had just 15 pro fights, I still say there's no weight class issue here - JLC was more than 135 lbs for his 2nd fight with Chico and we know Chico was falling all ova the place ever since the 2005 match up until the Clottey fight. He just grew old too fast and that happens because he passed his 30s and had stressy personal issues lately, I still believe Castillo can beat Malignaggi, NDou, Witter and M'Baye, why wouldn't he?
