Nome is right spelling, but approx. 500 km south of the correct answer. Try again :)
North Nome, Alaska? (My mental globe doesn't go that far north.)

Re: A little history/geography quiz
Nome was actually my guess when I first thought of the question. But the map says otherwise. The answer is Barrow, a town of approx 4-5,000 people. My brief research tells me the economy is primarily oil field related, also there is a fairly large contingent of native americans who rely on subsistance hunting.

Re: A little history/geography quiz
This military leader is famous for having marched an army that included elephants over the Alps and into Italy to take on the mighty Romans in 218 B.C.
Bonus points if you can say which civilization this leader was from.

Re: A little history/geography quiz
Hannibal, a general of carthage. The country closest to the south pole is south africa. Edit, I need to stop being so trusting of friends and their info, just double checked the south africa thing and wiki answers says its actually chile so cgm you got that one . This is good stuff since I'm done with school and don't exercise that tiny muscle much anymore, lol. Whom do the Romans trace their ancestry to mythicaly, not romus and remus but what people do they trace them to and what prince in particular.

Looks like it's your turn to ask another question, since CGM and I were on the wrong continent.

You're right about Hannibal and Carthage, but I have my doubts about South Africa. If you look on a map of the world, it sure looks like South America extends further south than Africa.
-
Re: A little history/geography quiz
Nope its not cgm was actually correct, need to stop pickin up info from buds while half drunk, lol. Although I didn't know we did the whole answer a question before you pose a question thing...

Damn I went and checked and you are right again, Argentina has the southernmost city, my friend just got back from a trip down there Ushuaia. But Chile physically extends further south.

It was big news when it happened. Anyways, the actor was Vic Morrow. They were filming a scene that involved a low flying helicopter, there was some kind of accident, and Morrow's body got in the way of the chopper blades. :-X

Re: A little history/geography quiz
Great answer on Pakistan. I would like to rep you, but the computer says I must spread it around and unfortunately I can't be doing that egalitarian communist shit.
The other answer is Venezuela (he named it after Venice, where the houses were also on stilts)

I would have thought the Urals.
