Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Donaire is pure class, I feel bad for the guy.

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
I know people are gonna say ooohh he was distracted, took it for granted, didn't train, was injured, blah blah blah.
I say bullshit. Rigondeaux is slick as grease and Donaire couldn't handle it.

Donaire hasn't looked good vs boxers in past though, i remember that Argentian boxer giving him problems early on and making him look bad. Its just he threw virtually no punches in the 2nd half of the fight.
Right bud. He fell in love with his power and press I saw too...he looked totally unmotivated and hungry

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Judges cards too close. Rigo by far the winner. Donaire looked lost.

So many people on forums laughing at the notion that Rigo was faster then Donaire or just as fast. He made Donaire look like a sloth.

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
I'm just glad no one will suddenly scream hype job for Donaire, this is what happens when two really great boxers fight, one will lose.
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
All credit to Rigon, he erased all doubts about being just an overrated cuban amateur, Donaire was hitting air just about all night, and getting caught with beautiful counters.
I don't however believe i'm going to become a fan of the "jackel" anytime soon. :-\
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
I had Rigo on top 10 to 2 personally I found the majority of the rounds extremely boring. Rigo simply is not an action fighter he's a counter move counter punch boxer that simply is not a big draw! You can say its beautifull boxing but he doesn't do enough for me!!! Its like a remake of Wilfred Benetez or a Jimmy Young although he's a superior boxer to both of them. He actually makes Mayweather look like an "action fighter", imagine that!!!! ;D Ray

Agree. No excuses for him. Its who he is fight time that matters. Rigo was a clear level above

Donaire is good. But some people saying he is the p4p contender got slightly ahead of themselves.
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Great fight. Not sure how one judge got it 116 to 111 though when the guy with 111 had a 10-8 knock down scored in favor for himself ?
Great result.

Honestly, I thought Donaire was going to blitz Rigon who turned out to be anything but an overrated amateur as a Pro. Great offensive and defensive performance by Rigon, Donaire couldn't find him the whole night and the KD was more of a fluke then anything.
I'd love to see the rematch.

I can't see a rematch happening. I don't see any top fighter wanting to fight Rigo really as either he'll make them look bad or the public won't have a big demand for it. Its a shame, as I think Donaire could do much better in a rematch.
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Yeah, that KD looked kinda lucky seeing it the second time around. They had just sort of turned each other out of a clinch and Donaire got a really wide shot in. It connected big though and Rigondeaux was a beast to get right back up like that.
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Hello Andre my friend,
Back to the fight,if Rigo won convincingly as many of you thought, were you excited about the fight?
How come people booed Rigo for not getting into the fight?
It wasn't Donaires fault, who keep chasing RIGO who doesnt want to fight.
If all fights are like this, im done with boxing.

Gee I had fun seeing what they were thinking and trying out, I thought it very technical and interesting to see the risk rewards being taken and had by both with their different styles.
Some of the so so fans will say Rigo ran (how can he win) but he was moving stopping catching Donaire clean but not with as much power as Donaire could muster at times.

The right guy won, but Lederman's scorecard was just insane, the only round he gave to Donaire was the 10th the KD round.
Not to take anything away from Rigon, he fought a brilliant fight and clearly won.

Was not directed at you but generally in forums. At least you acknowledged the points of others leading up to the fight in discussion. The people booing made me chuckle. Crippled in drunken misery because they had to sit through a boxing match.

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
That was great to watch. I like how Donaire said he wasn't gonna make excuses than proceeds to give 3 of them
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
The thing, he landed hard punches too and did out land Donaire in every round but the KD round. I have to agree with Leaderman on this one, I don't always but I just did not see how Donaire won more than one. But I might have tunnel vision as I did bet on Rigo. I will watch the fight next week again.

I'm not convinced Rigo won convincingly, he did not fight!!, just do some counter and walk. So much also with Donaire, he was just lazy this evening.
Rematch would be great.

A big part of Donaire's problem was finding Rigo with punches, he's excellent at hitting and not being hit. So because of this, you've got to wonder if Donaire would do better in a rematch.

gOOD FOR YOU Mate.
WHAT ODDS YOU GET ?

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Anyone else know what this crap is on SnL ???
By all accounts it was superman Donaires fight to make and force, he let himself be boiled down and react..hardly..rather than assert size and much hyped power and stardom. He fought the other guys fight, fell into feints and counters...and got beat. Simple as. Outclassed.
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
think it was +210 for Rigo, either 210 or 220.
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
This fight would have gone the other way around, some round are dull you can give it to either boxer, Doinaire have the k.o., it could have decisided either way.
It was a close fight but i got bored to death with Rigo.

You won a few bucks then?
Great fight. Donaire got a boxing lesson. They had a mid size ring and Donaire could still not cut the ring off. He had Rigo moving the right way but was just out fought. The reason Donaire looked so one dimensional was because from the opening bell he was looking to land the highlight reel punch and Rigo summed it up best in the post fight interview.
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
You've got to hand it to Rigondeaux. The smalle rguy was by far the better boxer. His chin stood up to being knocked down as well. Not the greatest action fight to watch but a great boxing match.
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
My thoughts, Donaire got a boxing lesson end of. The fight was never close. I didn't see one round where I thought, Donaire took that one because.....insert any reason here. The obvious exception was the round with the knockdown, but Rigo was completely back in control within 20 seconds of getting back up.
I got this one in my predictions, I thought Rigo would control easy and then Donaire would flatten him late. But Rigo never gave that opportunity to him and Donaire never pressed for it.
It shocked me to see 1 out of 5 voters on the poll they had going saying that Nonito won! On what criteria are they basing that on? He was not effective, not aggressive, not defensive, not the ring general.

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Really? It was exciting as hell for me to watch. the feigned jab turned into hooks, I do have one thing to say. I am totally amazed Donaire never landed a singled right uppercut. Was he out of position or Rigo too far out? From the TV angel it looked like he could easily land one.

Won $700 tonight and I'm kinda proud of myself that in my first post in fight predictions was pretty close to what transpired here. :D I'm gonna put 500 on Trout to win again, he made me a grand last time...God I turned to a degenerate gambler. Damn you school and your expensive books!

If you were a Doanaire fan, what's so exciting about it, i was one of the many fans who booed the fight when you are very excited watching Rigo back-pedalled and not being hit.

On a random note Donaire should go up to 122 and beat the shit outta a rebounding Billy Dib, just for kicks

I'd say Amir Khan back paddles, Rigo was on the outside and turning but perhaps that's a moot point. I can see your meaning though. I hated Marquez vs Mayweather fight, it just saddened me. I hated watching Jones Tarver II. I only stomached watching Sweete Pete vs Chavez once.

Rigon isn't someone i'd like to see fight again, if for no other reason then that mouthful of gold teeth is disgusting to look at, and that "jackel" shit is just plain sickening.

Nice. I don't bet as I don't have the disposable cash. I saw the earlier posts. Good hunch on Trout however keep in mind that its in Texas and Trout may not get a decision there;)
