To use that as an example of how Floyd would be able to mix it up with guys like Leonard, Hearns, or Duran is ignorant. And liquid summed it up nicely: "By being a fighter in this era, Mayweather's legacy can never shine as brightly as it could have."
Totally agree.

If you ever competed in an individual sport the only person you should be concerned with is yourself...Floyd is entertaining to those who love to see the best be the best..and he'd be F****** stupid to mix it up with guys bigger than him just so those watching can be entertained...boxing is a sport first, if people just want to so see a spectacle then watch UFC, or celebrity boxing...because it about winning F*** the fans.....
Floyd has made heavyweight money ONE TIME....because a fella named OSCAR DE LA HOYA....not because he's Floyd Mayweather Jr.
It has been proven that no one gives a S*** about FLOYD only about who he fights....which is why he couldn't sell out an arena in GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN (his hometown) just 4 years ago vs Phillip N'Dou.....compared to blockbuster fighters like Mike Tyson who once said "I could fill Madison Square Garden masterbating".
I don't want Floyd to fight anyone in a phone booth...no one expects that....but I DO expect him to actually FIGHT....maybe I'm wrong....maybe
BOXING isn't about punching people and not being punched.....maybe it's about showboating and grandstanding and bling.....yeah that's the sport I love....BLING
When the last time Floyd "showboated" during a fight? The only recent instance I can remember is against Judah in Round 12, when Floyd patted his chin, as if to say "Hit me with your best shot."
I don't remember any showboating against DLH, Gatti, etc.

I don't really remember anything specifically about those fights but wow you found 2 of 30 some odd fights.

Well if you're going to label someone as a showboat, it helps to be able to cite several examples. I saw you label him a showboat with zero supporting evidence whatsoever.

lmao, Lyle just got owned ;D
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
At Welterweight, I'd take PBF over Roberto Duran (I know that will piss off the many Floyd Haters and the "old school" fans, but thats just the way I see it). Leonard/Mayweather would likely be a snoozefest which could go either way. I think Hearns at WW with his punching power, reach and speed would give Mayweather a TON of problems, because anyone who was ever successful against Hearns did it by overpowering and slugging with him and I'm confident Mayweather really doesn't have the power to bother Hearns too much at WW.
But no matter who wins, there is no doubt in my mind that FLoyd Mayweather could compete with those guys. I know the many Floyd haters would have everyone believe that Floyd would be nothing but a trial horse in these great areas, but the fact is Floyd Mayweather is a marvelous boxing talent that could compete with any era.

For his whole career he is a showboat...Roy Jones Jr didn't show off in ALL of his fights but he was a showboat too.....I mean just because he didn't do it vs De la Hoya or Gatti doesn't mean he hasn't filled his career with shows of disrespect to his opponents.

Still waiting for examples.
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
It's hard to pick out specific things when it's all he does....the walking away from a fighter, the head nodding at a fighter, the picking up a fighter so he could beat him up more...actually that was funny but it's still disrespectful.....I can't remember ANY respect Floyd ever gave ANYONE.....even his pops as a fighter he talked shit about him.
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
PBF would be a very interesting fighter to me if he just had balls and got in there and finished opponents and maybe then i might feel different about him as a fighter but thats just me

And when has he done any of these things? I offered the one example of the time he kept patting his chin against Judah in the 12th round. That was definitely showboating, and I'm sure part of it was to embarrass Judah because Zab had hit him intentionally below the belt and in the back of the head.
Other than that I can't think of a single instance of Floyd showboating in the ring. There's a difference between trash-talking in the buildup to fights (which Floyd does all the time) and showboating in the ring. I'd say Floyd is a big trash talker, but in the ring he sticks to business, he doesn't clown around or showboat.
If he were that big of a showboater, I would think that people would be able to come up with at least 4 or 5 examples right off the top of their head.
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
he did the head nodding I believe vs De la Hoya...walking away he does it all the time a la James Toney or Joe Walcott, it's part of his fighting style but the way I see it it's not couth....and he kept picking one fighter up after he'd knock them down, it may have been Demarcus Corley but I am not 100% sure it was him.

let's see you get in there with guys natirally bigger than you and see you finish them...floyd's kayo % was very hgih when he was cxloser to his natural weight..he's now just schooling everyone with his boxing skill..and besides he has to protect his main assets which are his hands as he has very brittle hands...i'd love to see what would happen if he wore the puncher's glove and hit those bigger guys with that many clean punches they'd go out too...
Re: If PBF fought in the era Leonard, Hearns and Duran how do you think he do
I don't care if he KO's anyone, I DO care that he throws punches....he did for HALF of the Baldomir fight the other half he just ran around like a little punk he is
