P4P rankings are borderline useless and entirely subjective.
The habit of big named fighters jumping weight divisions to meet fellow status major players while ignoring the legitimate competition and challenges in their own backyards is too easily tolerated, leads us to overlook many lesser known fighters....we loss. But money talks.
HBO is biased towards it's house fighters.
Berto is overrated and has received an extremely easy ride to the top.He will not have the commitment and needed experience to step in and punch with Mosley and will get knocked out when the time comes that he HAS too adapt.
And he NEVER stopped running from the big boys. Everytime he moved up there was a weaker, beatable champion for him to face and when he has nowhere to run to...... Ah I'll retire, let these tough guys beat each other up and return to fight another damaged fighter.
ok here it comes ;)
Calzaghe is overrated
Sonny Liston is overrated
Paul Williams deserves to be on the p4p rankings
Bhop could beat Mavin Hagler
SRL schooled Marvin Hagler
Tyson is overrated
Rocky Marciano is overrated
PBF would beat any body from 154 on down
David Haye will get KTFO by Wald or Vitali, and even Sam Peters
Jermain Taylor beat Winky
Pacman beat JMM fair and square in their 2nd fight
Kessler will lose to Taylor or Froch
all weight classes below feather weight are useless
Oh restarting this thread for all new commers , good idea.
I think the Rock cheated by chopping away with the sides of his gloves.
Jeff Fennech looked good against only smaller men.
Ricky holder hatton bores me more than vlad.
Mine would be that ali was no were near the greatest heavyweight of all time just the best spokesman for boxing but not the best boxer
One thing I have never liked is the perception and/or opinion that Asian fighters are not as great as some historians make them out be. In my view, they have been terribly neglected by the "so-called experts" who vote people into the Hall of Fame. I have a hunch this might be corrected in 2009, but time will tell. Ah, now I feel better for getting that off my chest. Thanks for the thread that allowed me to do that. :banghead:
Here are some of my opinions that might be a bit unpopular:
Shane Mosley was unbeatable in any era at lightweight. Simply too much speed and power. Even for Duran.
I've always thought that people must have been blind to score the ODLH-Quartey fight in favor of ODLH. I always thought that Quartey clearly won that fight and was absolutely robbed. That was a great fight BTW.
Ricky Hatton talks about being an all action fighter but the majority of his fights are boring as hell and frustrating to watch.
Manny Pacquiao is not P4P #1. That honor should go to Joe Calzaghe. He's more talented as a boxer than Manny is.
The only person that Floyd Mayweather could not beat in and around his different weight classes is Winky Wright.
Evander Holyfield's amazing run as a heavyweight was only possible due to steroids.
Pernell Whitaker would have given Sugar Ray Leonard fits.
ODLH would have beat JCC in his prime too.
Kostya Tzyzu's resume is a bit overrated
Just who he fought and beat. If you think he could have beat ODLH or Mosley, etc, fine, but that's not what I'm talking about.
Ricky Hatton is not a top ten P4P guy anymore. Not sure how unpopular that is. Neither is Winky Wright.
Jorge Linares is being a little over hyped. Funny since I was one of the first to construct the bandwagon.
Jorge Arce wasted a lot of time when he was in prime, and got away with it because everyone likes him so much. After the Hussein fight until the Mijares fight he fought a lot of retirees and virtual no hopers and nobody cared, if it had been other fighters they would have been ripped.
Simple my unpopular opinion inwhich everyone in the boxing scene thinks Ali was the Greatest. My opinion differs I would barely have him in the top 5
1) Both De La Hoya and Mosley conveniently avoided Kostya Tszyu!
Those fights should have happened and i'm not buying some of the lame excuses i always get for it not happening.
2) Lennox Lewis was a lumbering Oaf! The Brits hate me saying this but in reality he would have been humiliated by Ali, Foreman and Smokin' Joe would have landed that famous left hook by round 2 or 3 on that questionable chin of Lewis. He was also lazy (Rahman) and over confident (Holyfield 2) He was clearly robbed in the first fight but i think he lost the 2nd one.
Hopkins could beat Hagler.
Calzaghe would dominate Pavlik. ( my opinion on that was supposedly crazy before the Hopkins fight, Not so crazy now though is it ?)
Prime for prime Hopkins could beat Jones.
Mosley is overated.
Paul Williams is also overated.
