Heavyweight James "Lights Out" Toney (71-6-3, 44 KOs) scored a controversial third round TKO over Hasim "Rock" Rahman (45-7-3, 36 KOs) in their "Last Chance" clash on Wednesday night at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA. A third round head clash cut Rahman over the left eye and after Rahman said he couldn't see between rounds, the bout was stopped by referee Ray Corona on the advice of ring doctor Paul Wallace. It was originally thought the result would be a no decision, but apparently Rahman had said he couldn't go on, thus the TKO ruling.

I thought it was a terrible decision though quite honestly, no question the fight should have been a no contest.

It was undisputed that it was a headbutt, nobody can deny that Rahman really has been done for the second time against Toney I'm afraid.

On FSN they are grilling this doctor about the decision, he made the right call you can blame Toney or the commission but not the doctor.

Whats telling is Rahmans last statement in the corner....."I cant see that right hand".....nuff said!Without even letting the corner work on it Once and giving himself a chance in next round for a victory....he opted out. After his corner asked "It was a headbutt right" ? He was staggered bad at 28 sec mark and Toney got him "upstairs" Imo.

You can't blame Toney he's done nothing wrong, neither has the doctor or Rahman.

The blame lies squarely at the feet of the referee imo.

I have no doubt this will be over turned within 48 hours anyway.

Bizarre decision. I've never seen a fight stopped by a referee due to a cut sustained by a headbutt and the other fighter declared the winner.

If they were trying to claim it wasn't a headbutt I could at least understand it but the referee and the doctor agreed it was a headbutt, and the doctor said he suggested to the referee that Hasim couldn't continue.

What Rahman may or may not have said to his corner is completely irrelevent though. He was clearly cut, the blood was clearly obscuring his vision, it was clearly a headbutt, and the doctor clearly suggested to the referee that Hasim couldn't continue.

Even had Hasim said to his trainer, 'I've found a way to get out' it should still not change the facts.

It was a no contest. Nobody likes no contests and I really wanted Toney to win but a bad decision is a bad decision no matter what the circumstances.

Toney was warming up nicely in the second and taking over in the 3rd. If Rahman continued he was going to get stopped anyway. Not the ideal way for Toney to get the win and I would have liked to see him get a few more rounds in the bag.

Hopefully, another fight in 3 or 4 months against someone ranked in the top 6. Then Toney is perhaps able to go for one last shot at a belt.

It wasn't the headbutt that stopped the fight, it was Rahman complaining he couldn't see. The doctor should have told him that he had ruled the fight could continue and the fight would only be stopped if Rahman didn't want to continue.

Rahman got called trying to pull a Francisco Lorenzo. Tony started to get the best of him and he knew that this was a way out. It was obvious that the cut wasn't going to stop the fight so he took it upon himself to come up with something better "blindness." The plan backfired.
