I got say I disagree with that Logic.. Jones is now 39 and Calzaghe is 36
So your saying Jones would have to be 2 years younger than Joe to beat him.. Yea Right!
Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
The only thing he could do to silence even the dark lord (maybe), would be to convincingly beat RJJ, and then do the same to Chad Dawson. (i think i feel a thread coming on...)

Couldnt we just stick all of saddos JC haters in a new york bar with 4,000 travelling brits!!
Why is this site so fucking pro-margarito, pacquiao, mijares, pavlik yet so anti hatton, calzaghe, de-la hoya???

But did he achieve the record? he did 21 defences didn't Ottke also do 21?

As many folk on this site think RJJ is gonna win, then if Calzaghe wins U have to give him respect. correct?
Fight him 7 years ago.

already discussed the time machine my friend
Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
Joe has put himself in a lose/lose situation. Joe wins...he will have beaten a clearly past his prime Roy Jones. He loses...his already questionable resume will look that much worse.
Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
I don't think anything he could do here would appease the haters. Even if he knocks him out cold, folks will just say that Jones was past it and Tarver and Johnson did the same thing. If Calzaghe wanted to improve his legacy, he should have taken the Pavlik fight, then he could have gotten the bigger payday with Jones for his farewell. After seeing how poorly Pavlik deals with movement and superior hand speed, I have little doubt Calzaghe would have won a wide decision and he'd be the guy getting praised for beating the young lion. Passing on that fight was a mistake, but I guess hindsight is 20/20.
Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
Just win
He's already in the HOF whether he wins or not.

JT, I HOPE YOU'RE RIGHT, my friend!
But Joe as lost me to much money... I did not put a bet down on this fight JUST cuz Joe is involved...
I hope he can pull a Hopkins(not a JC Hopkins but a KP Hopkins;)).
This fight means more than a Tarver or Johnson fight. Roy knows whats at stake here. His AT-Greatness, legacy and place in boxing history. He will let it hang out with his wang out.. Roy even in those tidbits of training footage on 24/7 looks fast, crisp, sharp fluid, relaxed and The real Roy Jones confident.. Roy is going to give us all something we havent seen in a while, a sublime performance for the ages... This fight is absolute redemption for me.. What happened with Tarver and Johnson wont mean a damn thing when he beats Calzaghe and then hopefully moves on to Hopkins and beats him in his swan song.
Everyone said that Jones was finished, well he picked himself off the floor scratched his way back to this point on the main stage once again, he aint letting all that hard work go to waste
Frankly, I'm not as impressed with the Jones comeback as most. He beat two journeyman level fighters and then a big name in Trinidad who was coming of a three year layoff and in any case was fighting 16 pounds above his best weight (or 23 if you consider his best at 147). Don't get me wrong, Jones is a top 10 all-time fighter, but I still think he is well past it.

Mine wasn't a time machine.
7 years ago they'd both have been younger.
I said fight him 7 years ago, not "just" fight the Jones of 7 years ago.

Exactly.
If he bashes the sh1t out of roy jones, roy is past his prime right now therefore joe wont get the respect for it.
The haters will say that he beat a washed up roy jones.
Its so sad that jones never fought calzaghe 8 years back when calzaghe offered it to him and jones refused.
Even if joe bashes jones then the haters will still spout 'but a prime jones would have beaten joe'...when all this is just simply hate.
Jones never fought anyone as good as calzaghe in his entire career, calzaghe has never fought anyone as good as a prime jones in his career.
So its a pretty meaningless fight (unless jones wins), but if calzaghe wins then all we know is that both calzaghe and jones are the best super middle weights ever (which we know anyway)...and that the real loss is boxing itself BECAUSE THESE GUYS NEVER FOUGHT EARLIER.
Some people will still rate jones higher than calzaghe, others will rate calzaghe higher than jones, its entirely up to the person AND THATS THE BEAUTY OF BOXING...EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION AND IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION...WITHOUT OPINIONS WE WOULDNT HAVE DISCUSSION AND THE BOARD WOULD BE V BORING;)
Either way, if calzaghe wins then he will go down on paper as the greatest super middle weight ever, but who knows...had they fought earlier (when it was offered to jones, 8 or so years back but he declined), jones wouldve gone down on paper as being the greatest.
I'll also add, just because someone goes down on paper as being the greatest, doesnt mean they were the best, just means they achieved the most. But then again, that is what competitive sport is about, about achievement.
Might as well leave it at that, 2 legends fighting each other, LETS ENJOY WATCHING THESE 2 GET IN THE RING TOGETHER AND SEE WHAT FIREWORKS MAY OR MAY NOT HAPPEN:)
As boxing fans!
Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
If Joe loses he will look a complete DICK!;D
Re: Ok Calzaghe Haters What Does He Need To Do In Jones Fight To Get Respect!
I respect calzage but he gains no respect for this fight what does it prove?
Last year calzage said roy jones was past it now he wants to fight him.
I think he just wants jones name on his record to make a case for the hall of fame.
He sould fight chad dawson who is undeafeted and not over the hill then what can anyone say
Its boxing though people will always dought you no matter who you beat look at any graet fighter in his own era he was doughted constanly it was only after he leaves people realize the void he left behind and begin to appreciate him.
Not comparing calzage to but examples:
Ali
tyson
duran
hagler
just a few but you get the idea
