Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
On an unrelated note, it's been snowing all night here and is completely white outside. First time we've had proper snow in Torqauy since I was a kid!

All of that aside, he's just not very good.
Good thing for Solis neither is most of the division.
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
He's a sucker for uppercuts and cheap buffets. This did him no good what so ever.

You actually think this bowling ball of a fighter can beat David Haye?
He has pretty good hand speed for a bowling ball. If Haye can't hurt him than Solis walks through him
His handspeed is okay, I like the way he places his shots, and he's by no means a terrible fighter, I just don't see anything in him that makes me think he can compete with the division's best.
Since when does beating Valuve, Harrison and Barrett make one the divisions best? There's a difference between the divisions best and the divisions most talented.
That dq was the right call
Well, I guess it all depends on how you define it, but by almost everyone's account David Haye is one of the three best HW's in the world. His resume in the division is completely lacking, but he has a lot of talent and I don't think he loses to anyone bar the Klitschko's at HW.

How is this performance any worse than Adamek against Michael Grant though? Austin is a more credible opponent than Grant and Solis is winning every round.
He's a big step up from Vinny Maddelone.
I've never once mentioned Adamek, so I don't see how that is a valid point. I'm far from sold on him as a legitimate heavyweight, I don't think he'll beat anyone of note either.
We agree there then.
My point is that the only fighters I see as performing as well as Solis are the Klitschko's, Haye, Adamek and Povetkin.
He's definitely a contender and I've never seen him in trouble.
What I don't get though is that Adamek was praised for his life and death win over Michael Grant, a fighter so chinny that he was actually KO'd by Dominic Guinn.
Haye never looked like a world champ to me against Monte Barrett or Nikolay Valuev, and he's been floored by Carl Thompson and Jean Marc Mormeck.
Solis is a step above those guys. I think he can take Haye into the deep waters and test him, Adamek too.
I can't see him beating a Klitschko but he's got as good a chance as any of the others.
I'd take him over both Haye and Adamek. I think Povetkin outworks him though unless he gets in shape.
Chambers might do well against him too.
I thought Haye looked okay against Barrett, but that's a bit of a digression. Solis definitely has natural ability, and if he dedicates himself and grows as a fighter I'm sure he can compete with most of the division. However, from what I've seen of him to this point, he's just not impressive and I don't think he will fare very well as he steps up his competition unless he improves dramatically.

He's the most talented. That I don't doubt. But he's not stepping up for a reason. Doubt. He doesn't believe he's the best and he knows he can't clean out the division like he said he would. He wants a Klitschko fight cuz he's looking to cash out. Till he gets it he will take on the easiest opponent he possibly can.

I think we agree here as well. Though I do believe Haye isn't stepping up because he has discovered that it's much more lucrative to beat up no-hopers in front of sold-out arenas in his hometown than fight Wlad who will likely KO him and seriously damage his reputation and earning power. For what it's worth, I think he has a decent chance of beating Vitali.

AS much as David Haye annoys me, I don't doubt his self belief that he is the best in the division. I don't think he beats Vitali though. No way. But Wlad might be a bit more vulnurable to Haye's shots.
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Well 2 "heavyweight hopefuls" of years past tarnished their images tonight Solis by being fat and allowing Austin to go 10 with him and Michael Marrone who was fat (260 1/2...I still can't believe it) and he LOST to the unherlded Darrel "King" Madison who boasts a record of 16 (4 KO)-1 ....wow, just wow. I wonder what Lou Duva thinks of this kid now?
Vitali is going to smash Solis and that will probably end both their careers barring Valuev finally caving and fighting Vitali.

YES !!!
Mayorga stopped him !
I couldn't watch it, so how did he stop him ? Was it a legit KO or TKO ?
Re: Solis vs. Austin and Cloud vs. Zuniga
Damn, I had no idea there was going to be boxing on a friday. I'm glad Mayorga got a stoppage, I have a soft spot for him. It's a shame that he is so inactive, must be about 36 now.

I couldn't agree more.
I love the trash talking pot faced bastard but he fights like once a year !
Hopefully he will get a fight with Cotto as Ross has suggested he may well do.

I haven't seen it yet, just a few brief highlights but it sounds like it was an entertaining fight.
Apparently he knocked the guy out in the 9th round but was docked two points for continuing to punch him in the face whilst he was down. I'm sure Miles will appreciate such tactics.

Yep I reckon its a real possibility. King will want to make some money and that means either Cotto or Pacquiao but Pacquiao has bigger fish to fry.
A Cotto match makes good sense for Mayorga as Cotto is the smaller man and fights at a slow pace. The fight would also be at light middle and realisticly that will be Ricardos optimum fighting weight seeing as his welter days were 7 years ago! He would be in better shape than coming in at 162 and has 9 good rounds behind him now.
The more impressive thing about his fight last night was that after more than 2 years out he had enough stamina to beat up and drop a naturally stronger man late in the fight. Andy Lee couldnt make Walker go down but Ricardo did. Hes a strong bastard and I reckon if he knuckled down in training with this walker match giving him sharpness he could treat Cotto like a ragdoll!
He did train hard for the Mosley fight I think but he just lacked sharpness and stamina from not having fought for a year or so. All he needs now is to stay active and that will give him a good chance to not only keep his name out there and make himself a viable opponent but also get him physically ready to throw his haymakers all night long;D
