Same sex marriage

I believe a lot of it is to do with upbringing and nurture rather than just nature yes.

I am sure some people are born gay and cannot be any other way. Likewise I am sure many more people are now gay because of the way society views homosexuality as an alternative option to explore.

I believe under the right circumstances, with the right background history and every single one of us could be made to have attraction to the opposite sex.

All of us are modelled and moulded by life experience. I think very little, if any is preordained from birth.

How is it an alternative option to explore? There's not a chance in hell I would ever have sex with a man because i'm not attracted to men in any way.

Anyone that explores homosexuality clearly must have feelings that way in the first place.

I have three sisters. They were brought up by the same parents in almost indentical environments. None suffered any kind of childhood tragedy or anything.

Two are married with children. One is a lesbian that has never showed the slightest interest in boys.

Out of interest do you think it's ok for siblings to have relations? Or parents and their offspring, assuming all were adults and consenting?

What about polygamists? I mean if a man wanted to marry three women and they were all happy with the arrangement would that be ok?

I don't see any difference between the above and homosexuality, with the exception that homoesexuality has been so vigourously campaigned for over the last 30 years that it's seemingly more wholesome than living a hetrosexual lifestyle.

Not trying to pick an argument it's just interesting to me as I think homosexuality is no more or less weird than those listed above.

What part of my opinion offends you? I have said I believe gay people should have exactly the same legal rights as everybody else.

I just object to them getting married in a church in a specifically Christian ceremony because the Bible says that such a thing is a violation of God's will. And I believe religions should be defended under freedom of speech/expression like every other group.

Do you disagree with this?

How does that make me a hypocrite? I have taken cocaine before but I would still tell somebody if they asked that it is illegal. Am I a hypocrite or am I just pointing out what the law says? It's the same with homosexuality and Christian marriage. Whether I adhere to something makes no difference as to what that religion says about homosexuality.

Despite what you may think your understanding of Biology, Science and Psychology is pretty rudimentary and in many ways completely wrong. Until you have been a parent or studied anything properly instead of wikipediaing it your views on nurture or nature are pure speculation and very infantile.

haha so having a child automatically confers on you greater scientific, biological and pyschological knowledge. We should be putting all the young chav parents to work in laboratories and getting them to lecture in colleges and universities then I guess to turn our educational system around.

You have to go out in the real world? You say that as if you don't spend more time on these boards than anyone else! You have made over 1000 posts since Christmas. You live here more than anyone.

I think its ok, I mean its not like gay people getting married is going to redefine what marriage means to heterosexual people. I think marriage should be between 2 legal and consenting adults.

I agree broadly. I just don't think they should be married in a church.

I also don't think divorcees should be either. It's nothing to do with being homophobic it's just I believe that Christian marriage (in a church) should be practiced in accordance with the Biblical rules for it.

I don't see why it is such a divisive opinion. I'm all for gay people getting married in civic ceremonies, just not in a church.

I don't even understand why they would want to, considering the church says that what they doing is an abomination before God. :confused:

I could be wrong but churches in the US still can decide who they allow to be married in their actual place of worship and by their clergy. Most gay couples are married by public officials. I think the gay community has misfired on this topic. Divorce the legal issues from the word marriage and it loses most of its contraversy. They should be pushing for federal legislation allowing civil unions for all (gay and straight alike) and leaving the term and ceremony of marriage to religious institutions. I fully support their desire for equal opportunities that come with "marriage" but they do their cause a disservice when pushing for acceptance of their lifestyle by people whose religious beliefs are opposed to it. The Defense of Marriage Act is a major sticking point on this topic. Strangely you see little discussion about repealing it.

I agree one hundred percent with what you say. I don't think it's a homophobic or intolerent viewpoint at all. It's just a fair and tolerant way, tolerant of everybody's viewpoints.
