Collazo lost to Berto and Hatton but he really won those fights. He also gave Mosley a pretty good fight. All elite fighters here.
Considering Collazo beat Hatton, Berto, Ortiz and gave Mosley just about all he could handle (boring chess match type fight), I would say Collazo is ready for more elite opponents.
Its crazy how underrated Collazo is and it stems from the Berto and Hatton fights which goes down as loses for him. I dont think there is a better pure boxer out there except maybe PBF.
Collazo has serious skills thats been tried and tested against top level fighters over and over. Its about time this dude gets his due.
With all this being said, all that matters in boxing is the W/L columns. It doesnt matter who really won, all that matters is who won in the record books. So out of all of Collazo's top level fights (Hatton, Berto, Mosley, Ortiz) he only gets "credit" for one (Ortiz).
Also, if you notice, neither Hatton, Mosley or Berto fought Collazo again even tho he desreved a rematch in each of them.
Collazo is the craftiest of southpaws and no one likes going up against that.
Mosley won damn near every round against Collazo and shut him down.
Berto vs. Collazo was razor thin, but I begrudgingly felt Berto edged it.
Collazo schooled Hatton pretty well n def won.
Honestly, a Berto rematch could be a very good thing for Colllazo if no huge fights are immediately available.
I think Collazo stole more rounds from Mosley than he was given credit for. And I would say Mosley shut Collazo down because Collazo landed some nice shots when he dd through. I agree Mosley clearly won but it was a hell of a chess match if you ask me.
Cant really disagree about anything you said about Berto and a rematch.
Re: Victor Ortiz-Luis Collazo fight week on FSN
I agree with Hulk.. mosley was never in any kind of danger against collazo.. he won easily..
And collazo rematching berto is like taking three steps back and it's unnecessary.. he needs to face thurman, brook or somebody on the rise..
Ortiz-berto rematch makes sense thpugh..
Re: Victor Ortiz-Luis Collazo fight week on FSN
The last time Collazo faught someone notable was against Berto in 2009 unless you count Freddy Herandez in 2011. I think a rematch with Berto would be probably the best he could get right now. I mean Ortiz was 0-2 in hes last two fights and by KO and stoppage. Hell Showtime didnt see Collazo as a good enough replacement for Alfonso Gomez thats why this fight was on FSN. It was a good start to getting back in the picture but saying that the win against Ortiz grants him fights against Thurman , Broner, Paulie , Maidana , Bradley , Etc is like saying that Anthony Mundine " stoppage win" over Mosley was great and gets him a fight with Martinez , Cotto, Alvarez.
Re: Victor Ortiz-Luis Collazo fight week on FSN
Collazo wanted thurman for awhile but got passed over for soto karass.. but now that he's upset ortiz with a highlight ko, thurman can no longe avoid him..

His win over Ortiz is much better than any win Thurman or Broner have ever had, and I don't think his losses in any way detract from his merit as a fighter, except maybe the Mosley fight. That's the only time he's been soundly beaten, and it was certainly no worse than losses everyone else you listed have taken more recently than that. It's in no way like saying anything about Mundine imo.

I think ortiz rising up for berto was the peak of his career and he's not mentally strong enough to put himself in that place again.. he had a chip on his shoulder that forced him to get out of character for one night but that was not the real him as much as I hate to say.. it was the disrespect he felt combined with the harsh criticisms that brought the monster out of him but that youthful energy was a one time thing...
That victory earned him a multi million dollar payday against floyd and he doesnt have the same desire anymore.. you give a mentally weak person few millions and he is not hungry no more.

Precisely the way I look back on that Berto fight. It was a very very good fight and a great win for Victor as another poster on here said he can always look back with pride on that victory.
However, as you said that was NOT him. Its just he had such criticism coming from all angles and his back was against the wall so he got extremely motivated and in a unique place mentally for that fight.
Top pros have that same mentality that Victor had that one night, EVERY night.
Victor is the new Yori Boy Campas. Except Yori Boy fought a lot more often (still fights) and I believe it took more to convince him to quit in many cases.
