I'ts a stupid comment, what James Toney said. Considering most of the best heavyweights are now European based. European based ethnic peoples, or white people, ha, can sometimes grow into huge mofos. haha Can easily fit into the heavyweight division. Also, this may be a time where the Heavyweight Division needs a Great Black Hope. lol
He should have said, "There will never be a Mexican Heavyweight Champion, or Japanese, Native American, Indian, and Pakistani." ;D
I'm just kidding!!!!!!! People, you need to settle down. :D
Re: James Toney: "There will never be a White Heavyweight Champion"
I think that this is getting blown out of all proportion. Sure, i'm 100% against racism and much worse has been said than what Toney stated. Still, that doesn't make it right but i think if people (especially fans of boxing) know what Toney is all about they would know not to take the guy too literally as he has never changed and will never change (and i'm not talking physically). He's talked smack throughout his boxing career and could probably care less about what me or any other person thinks about that. Boxing is full of diverse characters - good and bad. James Toney falls under the bad guy catergory and agree or disagree - this is part of the appeal of boxing, like it or not.
Sadly, racism is something plenty of people are capable of and the 'N' word in particular is a word i despise, and i find it very baffling why black men
in particular call each other this.
Love or hate James Toney he is (or perhaps more 'was') a great boxer.
Re: James Toney: "There will never be a White Heavyweight Champion"
I think it's always going to be the case where it's ok to say of a white man what would not be ok of a black man.
This is because of the history of the slavetrade and subjugation of the black race.
I see it as the same as how it's ok for a girl to hit a man but not ok for a man to hit a girl.
The man is the stronger of the two and so therefore it is wrong for him to exert power over a women.
In the last few hundred years, it has been Whites who have weilded the real political power and to be honest continue to do so. Blacks have excelled at sport but have yet to really enter into the political arena and are not as wealthy as whites as a whole. Certain exceptions like Colin Powell or Condaliza Rice aside, the typical black family is poorer and more disadvantaged both in the US and the UK than the typical white family.
As this gives them less political and socio-economic power there is as such no real equality between the two races, as the average white has more, and is better educated and less likely to be involved in a life of crime than the average black. That is the reality of life and so when a black man speaks a racist remark towards a white man it is considered as less offensive than a white man making racist remarks towards a black man.
This is entirely approriate for the reasons given above, as I said before a woman can hit a man, but a man connot hit a woman.........
I should make it clear that what I am saying above is merely an observation of how society is and not a statement that blacks are inferior in any way to whites, or less intelligent. They are not, but socio-economic forces previal to more or less dictate that the majority of blacks will remain in this position of inferiority regarding their political and social status.

that reminds me of an episode of judge judy..

judge judy said some shit like,
"do you wanna be able to vote? then he can hit you as hard as he wants if you hit him" or some shit

Whoa - hold on before we get too politically correct here. The 'Black race' is not only the descendants of the slaves in the USA and Caribbean. There are quite a few black people in Africa who have never been slaves or who have never been 'subjugated' (in fact the slave traders, muslim and christian, tended to buy slaves from other black people). My father is a black African and the slave trade passed them by entirely. He does not think he or his family was part or victim of it, he has no mysterious chip on his shoulder about something that happened hundreds of years ago, and he does not blame any laziness or ill-fortune on anything other than himself.
Also, what exactly is the 'black race'. A guy from Ethiopia is racially totally different to a guy from Rwanda, for example. They look completely different and they are even a different colour (and it's not actually black in either case). Is a Fijian or a Moari Black? What about Australian Aboriginals? These people do not consider they have any common 'race' identity.
Did you know that when Don King was setting up the Foreman/Ali fight in (then) Zaire, he wanted to dub it "from slavery to the championship of the world, its coming home" (I am paraphrasing), and the Zaireans said - 'we are not slaves and never have been. Why would we care about that?'
I am not sure that James Toney made those comments because of the history of the slave trade and the subjugation of the black race. He made them because he talks shit, he has always talked shit and he will always talk shit. It's just part of his psyche and drums up interest and tickets to fghts. Looks like it has worked!!!!
Please let's lighten up (no pun intended ;D).
The day we actually take something seriously that is said by a sportsman is the day we may as well give up.
Chill, guys

Much of what you say is true mate but i don't agree that black people will remain in a position of inferiority as equality is prominent as it should be.
Whether people agree with this or not employers in Britain i.e. the Fireservice, Police Force etc have favoured the supposed minority races to emphasise their equal employer status.
I'm goin off the subject of boxing here so i'll leave it at that but CC for a good post.
Re: James Toney: "There will never be a White Heavyweight Champion"
People this is boxing, nothing should be taken literally. Like I said, I met Toney and he's nothing like he wants you to think of him. Stop acting like you know these people, they are celebrities and their lives are not what they're portrayed to be.
BTW Toney's wife is not white, she is lightskinned black.
Re: James Toney: "There will never be a White Heavyweight Champion"
i couldn't give a crap what Toney says anymore to be honest

Yes, :coolclick: to Bomp and X. I think Toney talks smack because it is fun and games to him - a newer version of Ali and Roy Jones Jr.
Re: James Toney: "There will never be a White Heavyweight Champion"
toney makes a failry decent point --sports are generally dominated by black people--thats just the way it is. except hockey and baseball(mayb the most diverse sport there is) but he states it in an arrogant ignorant way. because he is a baffoon with gloves.
toney shouldnt talk about how great black heavyweight champions r--because he's never been 1 ;D
he just been heavyweight--thats it
