You know, it's easy for Calzaghe to be active and get off 30 punches when his opponent was standing right in front of him and not moving his head. Won't help to be much active when Joe actually has to move his feet and find a target rather then having it stand in front. You all act like Lacy and Roy and Hopkins have the same style somehow. Do you actually truly think that Calzaghe would have been half as accurate and hald as active had Lacy not been standing there in front of him and not moving?
No, but boxing and its fans are full of double standards. Oh how so many posters would discredit Shane by saying he fought "Vargas" and that Vargas allowed Shane to look like his old self but they claim Calzaghe as invincible after he beats Lacy ::**
Yes but of all the long time champions out there Calzaghe is the only one unbeaten. He hasn't come close to losing yet, so maybe he is invincible after all?

He lost when Robin Reid beat him ;)

Thing is that was Calzaghe on his worst day but anyway read this article.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sport/279246.stm
Note the quote from Reid near the bottom which says the following....
Reid said: "I can't argue with the decision. Joe was the better boxer on the night and I knew I could not catch him for speed."
Not my words, the words of Reid himself 8)

Re: UPDATED! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Jones vs Ajamu & Harris Johnston
Wacko, ya need to stop actin like Joe Calzaghe is invincible. Saying he would beat both Hopkins and Jones? I mean I know ya like to be popular and this is mostly a UK boxing site so sayin such nonsene makes the Brits happy but at what cost? I mean to give up on your favorite fighter, just to champion Joe Calzaghe, thats not cool. Hopkins and Jones were and are better fighters than Joe Calzaghe has, is or will EVER be. They are legends. He is a very good super middle weight, the best right now. But that is all.

I disagree completly. At this point in time Calzaghe is superior to both Hopkins and Jones. Father time has dealt his blow and there is no turning it back. In the past Hopkins and Jones could have beaten Calzaghe. But not now.

Re: UPDATED! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Jones vs Ajamu & Harris Johnston
somehow I think if Hopkins or Jones had Lacy in front of them it would have been a lot more one sided then what Calzaghe did.

Neither Hopkins nor Jones has the output now to match Calzaghe

Re: UPDATED! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Jones vs Ajamu & Harris Johnston
Both Jones and Hopkins could easily beat every opponent Calzaghe has fought, even now.

You also said Vargas would beat Mosley because Mosley had his father in his corner ::**
Anybody can make outlandish statements ;)

CC mate, but you'll see plenty of outlandish statements on this forum! Calzaghe's had some damn hard fights, and come through em all. And vitally, he's never lost. Give him his three last fights. See if he beats the bg names and cements his legacy, and we'll see a very different story even from the more partisan American fans. I think the Lacy win was the first step to building his amazing legacy. But equally, he could lose the belts and get shown up. Whatever it is, i hope FW comes trhough and makes the big fights to define him one way or the other.

Re: UPDATED! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Jones vs Ajamu & Harris Johnston
I consider myself a huge Hopkins and Jones fan! I'm still not that big a JC fan, but I respect what he's accomplished, same as the other two.
When I say Joe is too busy for Hopkins, I mean exactly that - Hopkins likes to play chess in the ring, and he's a master at it. But!! 10-12 punches a round just ain't gonna get it done against someone outworking him like Joe would. Hopkins could catch him - he's not a great fighter for nothing - but at this point, I think Joe would overwhelm him. I realize that Hopkins isn't gonna just sit there like Lacy did and wait for it, but I don't think that would make a whole lot of difference.
As for Jones/Calzaghe, I'm sorry. I loved to watch Jones in the ring - alot of us did and still do. But he's a much different fighter now! He's not the same quicksilver boxer he was in his prime. Since Tarver and Johnson taught him what the lights look like from the canvas, he's been reluctant to commit to his offense the way he did when he was on top. I think Roy would've been way too much for JC then, but now it's a whole different ball game. Roy's still a damn fine boxer, but he lost his edge in those KO defeats. While it's possible Jones could outpoint JC, I doubt it - people seem to underestimate Joe's boxing skill ( or overestimate Roy's ).

Thanks, clicked ya back ;)
To be honest Ive been known to lapse as well with the whole outlandish comments thing....I was predicting a Vargas victory too! OOPs :P :-\ ;D
But agreed. Its up to Joe now to make the closig stretch of his career count and to make it count big...

Excellent appraisal :appl: :coolclick:
At this stage Jones and Hopkins are too long in the tooth....prime for prime is possibly a different story though..

Re: UPDATED! Wacko's Drunken Round by Round: Jones vs Ajamu & Harris Johnston
Prime for prime, I think both of them would have beaten Joe. Hopkins\Calzaghe would probably have been more competetive - I think Roy would've been too much for JC before the jump to heavy.
:coolclick: back at ya!

You need to stop being a moron & think with what little abilities you have left in that pea sized brain before you get big green man syndrome & start running that mouth.
Legends always equate to being myths...you should know that better than anyone Mr. Mayorga.
Hopkins had a hard time last go around with someone that was agressive & threw a lot of punches when he fought Taylor. Taylor didn't just stand there to be hit like Tarver.
Calzaghe is a constant mover...unlike Tarver & Taylor both...he fires from all angles & doesn't back down when popped.
Jones? He's faltered under half way decent opposition...you can sure as hell bet Calzaghe's pressure will be different than Badji.
Also...the problem with your inflamtory comments is the fact that I am a fan of all 3 fighters mentioned...two of which are not British fighters...so STFU!

Thats one of the tough parts of living where I do...the DRBR and the fights on tv are usually on at around 11am here...Its not possible for me to have a true DRBR experience! :(
I could try, but that would get me in some serious trouble with the lady! :-\ ;D

Calm down Calzaghe worshipper, calm down. You are just upset that you acted like a coward, showed no faith in two of your favoirte fighters, and they ended up winnin. I may be too loyal sometimes, and you can throw that Mayorga loss in my face all ya want if it makes you feel like you know more about boxing. BUT aside from the Mayorga pick I also picked: Cotto to beat Malinaggi, Bernard to defeat Tarver, Mosley to beat Vargas both times, and Jones to beat Ajamu. So recently my picks haven't been too bad, better than yours even. Must be a fluke or something huh? Or maybe just maybe I have a little bit of balls, stand by my fighters and know a thing of two bout boxing. ;) I mean it seems like the only fighters you stand by are Vitali and Wlad Klit, picking them to defeat everyone in the world. :P
