Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
i had the fight 115-113 Margarito came on a little too late, Williams was eating a few shots towards the end but Margarito wasn't all dat to begin with. Someone like Cotto would punish Williams if he stood and traded like he did in the later half of the fight. Credit to Williams tho his punch out put was f**kin amazing and for first 4 rounds completely dominated he lost his way a bit after that but he managed to get control of the fight in the 12th and i think thats what won it for him.

Great Fight....Don't know why Margarito thinks he won.....He was never hurt but it was just the work rate of Williams that did it for him.....He earned the decision....
Margarito made the same mistake a certain LHW champion did that cost him his MW title...Waited too long
It is seeing Gatti go out like that tonight That hurt me to watch...

Great job for Williams winning the fight, didn't think he had it but he does. Now its time for either him or Cintron to fight Clottey

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
I picked one with my heart and one with my head for this weekend.
The Gatti fight I went with simply because Ive enjoyed watching him so much over the years and thought he could pull it out again. Alas, he couldnt. I havent seen that fight yet and dont know if I really want to.
The Williams fight I picked with my head. He is just so tall and rangey and has that mad output. I couldnt see how Margarito would win unless Paul's chin failed to hold up to something that might land flush.
I actually agree with Bilbo in regards to a Mayweather: Williams fight. Mayweather has all the skills but Williams has all that wonderful freakiness!! ;D

A bloody good fight all in all. Williams output is just amazing. He doesnt stop punching and he towers over anybody he gets in the ring with. Margarito spent the first half of the fight simply puzzling how to get around the puzzle in hand. I must admit I was getting a little nervous in the 11th when Margarito seemed to be going for it, but Williams came back admirably in that round and took the final round with ease.

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
What a great fight.
:appl: Thank you to both fighters for that.
What a shame for Margarito everything hes ever worked for all the wins he's had at Welter, the 7 defenses of the title down the drain. He will be discredited by anyone and everyone who doesn't like him. It's a shame cause it's completely his fault. When I saw/heard his pre-fight interview and I hear him say that he WASN'T gonna throw as many punches but that he would concentrate more on power I knew right there and then he'd loose. Cause there is no way he could win the fight throwing less. Margarito is a volume puncher thats his fight and he didn't fight his fight. As soon as the interview was over I turned to my bwoy! and told 'em I hope he was serving us a 'bluff'. Cause of course I thought he was just saying that to say it but that he didn't really mean it. Thinking he would switch it up once in the ring. Well guess what? He didn't. He went out there and just let Paul dictate the fight from early on Margarito didn't throw enough and he started off waaaaaaaaaaaaay to late, when you possilby loose the first 6 rds. straight theres a HUGE problem. Now let's be honest here Margarito was catching a lot of punches with his gloves Pauls jabs were more like slaps then jabs BUT the fact of the matter is he looked active and busier then Margarito he did it threw out the fight even when he lost rounds Paul threw more. Add that to those big shots that Williams was landing here and there and you got yourself one good performance thru 6 rds.
I can't hack at Williams for his win no excuses. However if you can't see that he was geniunely hugging Margarito early on then I don't know what to tell you. Cause I sure as hell didn't jump in my car snuck in the Home Depot Center leaned through ropes and told the ref.
'Pssst, pssst..... hey!! Williams is huggin too much wadda 'ya say you warn him on that and then threaten to take off points? Thanks'
If can acknowledge that he geniunely won the fight fair and square they you guys can genuinely admit that he was hugging Margarito. Now yes I understand Margarito was HOLDING his hand but this is after Williams would come on to him and hug.
Understand this isn't an excuse/nore Am I trying to justify anything just a simple observation that Williams held excessively.
I really think Margarito will never again get back to where he was after this. He might continue to fight but I don't think he will make it back to the top ranked. Again it's no ones fault but hes, to add insult to himself he goes and with a straight face says he was robbed. That right is down right wrong, he should know better then that. Someone else here stated that eventho they didn't like Margarito and what not he could understand why Margarito felt he was robbed being that coming into the 12 round the fight was close. Still I personally think at best Margarito won 5 rounds and that's been kind to him.
Well then the Margarito Express ends here, I never claimed that Margarito was better then PBF. I never claimed that Margarito was invincible. However I did claim that he had been a champion for years, had paid his dues fighting whomever they put infront of him.
And he was overdue for a title shot. How do you earn a shot at THE Champ in the div? You can do it several ways. Beating another champ and trying to unify thats 1 way, Wining a title not loosing a fight in years and fighting whoever is there defending your title. He did just that and wanted a shot at Zab. I'll always think back on Zab vs. Baldomir and know that on that night it was suppose to be Margarito there fighting him and not Baldomir. If you've followed this saga you'll know. (Let's not forget Zab was just looking for an easy set up fight)
Heres hoping that the future fights in this Welterweight tourney can be as good as this one.

I guess it's hard to be objective when your the one actually in the ring. Tony probably felt he wasn't hurt at all in the early rounds and so didn't see himself losing.
He certainly lost because he was just outworked in the first 6 rounds although the final half of the fight was very close.
It kind of reminded me of Hopkins Taylor 1 but with a load more action. Bernard threw away the first 6 rounds in that fight too, difference was that for some reason loads of people though he still won ???

I'll tell you what I did type, I typed that I didn't see anything wrong with the decision that I thought almost all of the rounds could have gone either way. If you check SweetPeas thread on the Contreversial fights I posted that comment there. The thread might not even exsist since the sites crashed a couple of times and threads and posts get lost. But I can tell you right here right now I don't think JCC beat Pernell, again however I don't see the draw as contreversial result cause almost all of the rounds could have gone either way and if Pernell would have been awarded the win it would have been fine. Oddly enough I've said Pernell left at times rounds up for grabs because tho he boxed well if a fighter brough it to him and became the aggressor judges would lean/look more to the fighter whos doing the bullying. Another thing to note Pernell must be the most hated/unluckiest boxer ever. He was robbed against Ramirez (cause Ramirez was also a big name like it's said to be the reason why both ODHL&JCC were favored in their fights with Pernell), ODHL, JCC. I wouldn't be surprised if I read that someone felt he also got robbed against Trinidad.

I root for fighters that come to fight, I root for fighters that are willing to lay it all on line.
Tonight I was rooting for Margarito, if you read my previous post you can see that I explained about the huggin that Paul was doing.
Biased? Me? Nahhhh!!! ::**
I think it's safe to say we are all biased here one way or another.
Pathetic? Me? Well you are entitled to your opinion and if you think that me making a comment on a fight about something I saw on screen is pathetic then I'm guilty as charged for that. Cause I really saw Williams hugging Margarito excessively.
Arguellos, Nicaraguan and I defend him to the end. Durans Panamanian and I'll defend him to the end. SRR is African American and I'll defend him to the end. Mikkels Danish (not to be confused with the pastry) and I'll defend him to the end, Alis African American and I'll defend him to the end, Dariusz is Polish (Not to be confused with the sausage) and I'll defend him to the end.
So you see my pathetic Mexican biased as you call it stretches FAAAAAAAAR more out then Mexican fighters. I'm biased towards all fighters I root for regardless of where they were born or the color of their skin.
Now I think I've gone on about this enough to clear up any confusion you might have about me. I don't want this little misunderstanding between you and I to escalte into something else. Theres really no need for that so I'll trust that we both understand now that I'am not a pathetic Mexican biased.
I can take those kind of remarks and I've debated with other posters like yourself and I've been able to go about muy business here. But as some advice to you I suggest you don't go around making one too many more of these kind of remarks cause theres other people here watching/reading this and I know HE will not tolerate this. That result was fucking bullshit, williams is a bitch.
the only time he won a fucing round was when that prick of a ref let him hold every time toni got close to him... It took the ref 6 fucking rounds to warn that lanky twat to stop cheating ffs, then when he stopped being a bitch toni toook every single round, untill the last where williams knew damn well he could hold on and get away with it..
Fucking discrace how he was alowed to do that, toni got screwed last night!

That is by far the most ridiculous thing I have EVER read...EVER.
Margarito got bit by a boxer puncher that outlanded him & out slicked him.

I think i give it to williams by one round...
I'm just sick and tired of all this holding and shit that goes on all the time... There aint one single round i give to williams when he didn't hold on and basicaly stop magarito being bale to work him...
If what he was doing was ok, why did the ref call him on it AFTER 6 rounds? why did he stop doing it untill the last round wher ehe knew he could get away with it again? It was bullshit IMO and it really really pissed me off
I'm no magarito fan, this is the first time i ever seen the guy, so i hope people don't think this is a pissed off fan trying to make excuses...

Wow. The holding wasn't that bad. I don't mind holding as long as it doesnt bog down the fight and make it a bore. And that was an action packed fight.
Though Williams did instigate most of the clinches, Margarito was happy to oblige. In fact, it was Williams who would end up pushing Margarito off of him to end the clinch.
The crowd might have made it seems worse then it was. Fight was in southern Cal...you heard all the chants of "Mexico". It was obvious who the crowd was rooting for. Everytime (only a few) that Williams would start to dance a bit on the outside or try for a quick breather on the inside he was boo'd.
He averages 100 punches a round...is he not allowed to tie up for 10 seconds a round if he needs a breather? ::** Christ, the holding wasn't even bad!
Tony was screwed my ass. Is that why Williams doubled Margaritos punch output? Acutally I think he even more than doubled it. That is a LOT of punching for someone who spent the whole fight "tying up" ::**

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
First fight with Cintron was impressive. He looked sharp. Second fight was sad because you would like to see Gatti go out on a win, but he bit off more than he could chew.Third fight I thought was pretty damn good. If Williams could learn to use his leverage in punches a little better instead of arm punches he would generate more power. Margarito has a good chin tho so I knew there wasnt gonna be a ko. I thought Williams boxed brilliantly and moved real good to set up combos. He also hurt Tony's inside fighting by tying up on the inside. You could see Margarito was the one with the power to end the fight, but he only landed flush about half of what Williams did. Williams completely outboxed him. Margaritos corner should have been telling him to step it up later in the fight, looked like he was either real tired in the crucial 12th or Williams got a burst of energy.
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
Williams also stopped Margarito's punch output with his own. In Margarito's last fight he threw like 1600 punches to beat Clottey, in this fight wasnt it only about 600?
-
Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
Good thing gatti decided to retire. Thats the saddest lost in his career (actually anyones career in recent history).

I take it you missed his pre-fight interview.
The idiot himself said he would throw less and concentrate more on power punches then qty.
Bad idea and whoever came up with it should be slaped.

Re: Wacko's Drunken RBR Gatti v Gomez, Margarito v Williams, Cintron v Matthysse
I feel Williams won and that Margarito doesn't have a leg to stand on if he feels he got robbed. Williams was simply more effective and Margarito should have jabbed his way in as opposed to move in with his head. But if you think about it, Williams did really hold a lot especially in close where Margarito does his best work to the body. Perhaps that was good strategy and part "I don't want to get hit in the body." Also, Williams missed, on the average, 8 out of ten punches thrown. So, Williams was more active, but not much more effective than Margarito (enough to win the fight and have fans marvel at his stamina/ability to punch endlessly for 12 rounds). I definitely want to see a rematch and Margarito putting the pressure on much earlier.

Fucking discrace how he was alowed to do that, toni got screwed last night!
Yeah isn't it a disgrace how he was able to win the first 7 or so rounds and average more then 100 punches around yes that was a real hug fest ::**

Paul Williams went out and fought a great fight. It wasn't really his typical fight, he was on his toes a lot more in the first fight.
I thought he would fight a similar fight to that he fought against Matthyse where he was real flatfooted on the outside and long with his punches.
He was on his feet pretty much the entire time against Margarito which I thought really sured up his defense because it's a lot harder to exploit a fighter who's giving angles and on the move then it is to catch a guy who's in front of you. It became a lot more exciting when Paul winded a bit and decided to stand and trade a bit more obviously, that's also when Margarito picked up the workrate. I think it was more Paul letting Margarito into the fight then it was Margarito coming on late.
A lot of comparisions have been made to the Hopkins - Taylor bouts where Bernard got a late start, I don't buy into that really. Hopkins waited but had the opportunity to get into the fight anytime he wanted. I think the only reason Margarito made it closer was because Williams let him back in by becoming stationary. In that regard it's a bit similar to Taylor - Wright. When Wright got flatfooted, Taylor had his best success. When Williams got flat, Margarito had his best success.
I think a Mayweather - Williams matchup would be VERY interesting, I think that might be the toughest matchup for Floyd just because of the physical disadvantage. Williams is just fucken huge. Cotto would probably be able to walk through anything Williams threw his away, and he would make Williams pay a lot more on the inside then the long armed Margarito.
Good fight though, Williams really rose to the occasion.

Oh and you wonder why Mayweather didnt fight him, it would waste his time....
