I think you're underestimating Trinidad's heart.
Roy knocked him down twice and had him hurt badly.
Trinidad has one of the greatest hearts in boxing. If anything this fight confirmed that.
Roy wasn't gonna knock out Tito unless he caught him early.
Trinidad isn't heartless so why would Roy put him away?
I think you're severely underestimating Trinidad's heart and will

Uh, no. Roy could not put away a man 23 pounds beyond his best weight and who had not fought in two and a half years. That is not an impressive win in the least.
Neither did Hopkins when he fought Wright ::** Go hate somewere else junior

I think you are looking at the trees and missing the forrest. Roy could have polished off Tito any time he wanted after the first knockdown. Its just no in his nature, he's a guy who is happy to score his points and take the decision. He doesn't like to go out for the knockout, plain and simple.
Look at Roy's handspeed and accuracy he showed tonight. The only other guy who shows accuracy and speed on that level is P4P king Floyd Mayweather. He aint the Roy of old, but IMO he isn't done.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Well, who would of thought. The one dimensional can only fight moving forward Tito was actually outboxing Jones moving backwards for six rounds.
Yeah I know, I sound delusional but I think Tito was clearly winnig the fight till he got cought. Tito was out of his depth here but he still did better than I thought he would.
Maybe if I see the fight again with a few less beers on me I'd see something different but I was supprised Tito did so well on this fight for at least the first half anyway.

Great comparison. Wright is a defensive master. I never expected Hopkins or anyone else to KO Wright. Trinidad ain't no defensive master. I fully expected a Jones KO, and the fact that he couldn't deliver proves that he has lost something. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater...Roy at his best is a top 20 all time great. But he does not have it anymore.

Yeah as I mentioned the guy who said that is underestimating Trinidad's heart and drive which are two of the biggest in boxing.
Oh you wanna say "Roy didnt knock him out im unimpressed"
As if no one else saw Roy dominate, toy with him and knock him down twice ;)
It seemed like Jones gave away the early rounds to save his legs for late and once that was confirmed Tito was tattooed all night.

So dominating Trinidad after giving away the early rounds toying with him and knocking him down twice isnt enough for you?

IMO Trinidada did not look bad at all...Especially since it has been over 2yrs and at 170lbs...He could make some noise at 160....No shame for Tito....He made a good showing...
Roy looked good but at times he seemed to me not able to stay strong throughour the fight....He was not able to fight 3min of every rd...But he did look good...his confidence was back...the more the fight went on the better he got...
Much better bout then I expected....

Jones looked dominating in that fight. Trinidad can still punch like a beast so Jones played it safe, but he picked his spots and dominated Trinidad. Jones never even tried for a knockout, but he still looked like the fastest, sharpest Roy Jones I have seen in years.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoy
Sorry if the last few rounds wern't good its because i couldn't get on Saddo's and i was trying to rush to get all the comments in. And im already half a sleep at the moment, but i tried my best folks overall great fight. Thats the best Jones i've seen in ages he stood toe to toe with Tito and out brawled the brawler. Great performance from both fighters im glad they proved a lot of doubters wrong, most people thought this would be a boring fight including myself so i think Jones and Tito deserve around of a applause :appl:

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoy
Jones SHOULD have looked dominating against a man 23 pounds above his best weight and on a two and a half year lay off! That's to be expected. I expected him to put him away at least by the mid-rounds given those things. He couldn't do it. The top guys at 175 will beat him (Calzaghe, Hopkins, Dawson).

Did you even watch the fight? From the halfway stage on Roy completely and utterly dominated. Even before that he was totally relaxed and just playing around.
It was basically a sparring session for him. He could have put Trinidad away if he would have wanted he was just clearly enjoying putting on a show.
Great performance by Jones I honestly think he has a shot at beating not just Hopkins but even Calzaghe.
When he got knocked out by Tarver, and then Johnson it was like Jones didn't know that age was catching up with him and he was still fighting his old flashy style.
He's now learned that he aint the lightening fast invincible machine any more and he's adapted his style, slower, more methodical, relying on a decent block technique rather than rapid head and body movements for defense.
He's like Ali post his ban, not as fast but clever.
I really think he can go out with a bang and even reclaim his spot as p4p number 1, at least if Floyd doesn't fight.
He's going to be remembered like Ali and Foreman as a legend who reinvented himself in his older years to achieve success all over again.

CC ice! Both of them looked much better than I expected and both could make much more noise if they commited themselves. Tito if he could move down to 160, would be a top contender again IMO. He was sharp and powerful early on. His timing and body shots were fantastic.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoy
I agree both fighters looked good. Tito was turned into a scared fighter after feeling the power of the bigger faster Jones.
In the end I think both fighters had great careers but should stay retired.
Jones can't hang with the big boys in these divisions anymore. He did look good against a smaller fighter in Tito but he won't be able to walk down guys his size or bigger and his confidence didn't look genuine until the first down. Unfortunately, I think he's destined to get knocked out ugly again in one of his next fights. I hope not, but it looks like the case.
-
Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Tito looked pretty sharp early, if Jones had just come in looking for a KO it might've cost him. Like said before, Tito got great hart and a decent chin to go with it. Not so easy to just KO him.
I'm really happy it was a good fight and not a total blowout. I wish both fighters the best and I think they both have a little gas left in the tank for 2 or 3 fights.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
IMO, the Tito that lost tonite to Jones Jr. was a lot better than the one that lost to Winky two years ago. At least Tito was more active, going upstairs, downstairs.... staying busy, and throwing hooks, jabs, right hands, etc.
But as everyone suspected, it was too much to ask for Tito's power to have the same effect on Jones Jr. as it has had on most of his other opponents. Jones Jr. has fought at heavyweight, whereas Tito had never fought above 160 pounds. To expect Tito to hurt Jones Jr. easily was hoping against hope.
That being said, I thought it was an entertaining fight, probably better than most people expected.

I think after the Middle rounds Jones was completely in control and he was just putting on a show. When he did floor Tito he did try and close the show but Tito was tough and showed a lot of heart. Not quite the vintage Roy Jones but pretty damn impressive, because he was much more aggressive in this fight and was even backing up Tito.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Fantastic fight. Really impressed with Tito, as i predicted he would totally get destroyed, but has shown why he is classed as legend - 2 stone weight difference and after a 2 year layoff. if he moves a few weights down will trouble a lot of people.
Roy Jones looked imense too, i think he could of finished the fight off at any moment with a tko but didnt due to respect for tito. at times his speed and accuracy wrer amazing!!
im still not sure he could beat calzaghi or hopkins as he didnt really prove that much tonight by beating tito, although was a cracking fight. will be intresting to see where he goes from here.

You should be proud of your boy even though im Roy Jones Jr fan i always admired Tito, and in this fight he got even more respect from me, he looked sharp and went downstairs and upstairs and even hurt Jones a few times. Yeah, I'm pretty proud of Tito tonight, even though he lost. He gave it his all, but Roy's just too big, too fast, and Tito's totally out of his weight.
One thing I'd like to add. Tito now has three losses. But when you consider who he has lost to, they are three of the biggest names in boxing: Hopkins, Winky, and now Jones Jr.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
oh one more thing .... If Tito had the power to hurt jones, lets say equal power 50/50, i think the fight could have been a lot different. jones was walking through tito's shots and showed no respect at all for him after the 6th, because he new tito coulnt hurt him. but the way tito boxed the first 6 couple with extra power i reaken he would of beaton jones?????????

CC back i'll tell you what your boy had me worried for about 4 rounds, because Tito was so sharp in the early going and landed crunching body shots. Like i said Tito has still a lot left in the tank he would do very well at Middleweight IMO, even if some people aren't Tito fans you have to admire the guy, he never ducked anyone and even moved up in weight to fight fighters who were at the top of there game. I still rate Tito as one of the best Welterweights of all time and he has nothing to be ashamed of tonight. In fact he can go back to Puerto Rico and hold his head up high with pride.

Re: Wacko's Round by Round of Roy Jones jr vs Tito Trinidad! Happy New Year bwoyo's!
Its funny how people say Roy is naturally so much bigger than Trinidad, even his walking weight is only about6-7 pounds heavier than Trinidad'a. People forget Roy fought his first 21 fights and first 4 years at 160 and below 154(he fought most of his earlier fights before Hopkins at 154). Roy didn't go up to LHW originally because he couldn't make weight at 160, 168 hell when he was making 160 or 154 the weigh-in was on the morning of the fight. Not only that, but Roy hasn't had all the power he used to have, and I thought he would have KO'ed Trinidad with a flash punch, but he clearly never tried to follow up when he hurt Trinidad, and his trademark is to carry fighters past the finish line. Could he beat Calzaghe? I doubt it because Calzaghe fights a too fast of pace and Roy wouldn't be able to keep up stamina wise, but if Calzaghe ends up fighting at a slower pace Roy would stand a chancebecause he is still much faster than Joe, in handspeed at least. However, against Bernard Hopkins he has more of a chance because where Bernard's style does well in luring in Calzaghe and causing him difficulties I think Roy's more clever offensive skills would make an interesting fight with B-Hop. Both of them fight mentally so quickly, but the difference is that Bernard's body can still keep up to the pace of his mind while only Roy's hands seem to be able to do what he really wants to do.
As for Trinidad I've felt that he fought the wrong guys in B-Hop and Wright, and that against both of them he was given the wrong advice about how to fight or they would have been a little closer. He always had the power, and he has pretty good skill, but he is like Mosley in that he doesn't ever give up, but he sticks to his guns too much andpartly its his training or success in the past, and partly he can't adjust well enough. Against Hopkins he wasn't changing up his style and thats why it became more and more one sided as the fight progressed, and same with Wright because its easy for great tacticians to realize in a few rounds that this guy really can't do anything else, and once Roy figured that out the fight was over. However the large majority of the guys out there wouldn't be able to beat Trinidad because against almost everyone his power and skill are as overwhelming as his left hook.

Jones did good. Won convincingly. But I'm kinda pissed he didn't try to take Tito outta there. Just let him go the distance. A bit disapointing IMO.

Decent fight Tito did a decent job for four rounds then Roy came on a bit and actually started throwing punches. One thing i did notice was Roy got ripped to the body an aweful lot and against a natural light heavyweight he would feel the affects of them punches a hell of a lot more. Roy turned back the clock and showed flashes of his old self but he was lathargic at time especially in the opening rounds and it could have cost him.
Credit to both guys for putting on a half decent fight

I think he put on a great show im big Jones fan and i was impressed, because he wasn't so gun shy and he showed good offensive skills. I think you should be pleased being fellow Jones Jr fan that was the best Jones i have seen in ages.

Roy has always been able to take body shots, and took them often even closer to his prime(before he moved up to heavyweight) big guys like Gonzalez and that black italian guy who's name eludes me at the moment, but of them hit Roy to the body when he was on the ropes and it did nothing. McCallum hit him to the body and did nothing. Like Mayweather, he seems so well prepared in the midsection that nothing is hurting him there. I am more surprised people can take his body shots because he so fast he lands that right hand to the body like nobody else.

I guess...
He fought like a man. Kept that guard up though which was smart. But damnit he promised a KO, coulda had it for sure, and it did not deliver.

I'm going to watch today's fights later and comment but let's calm down folks and put the fights into perspective. It was questionable whether Tito was going to have the power to hurt Jones in the way Tarver and Johnson did. I find it amazing that people are saying RJJ would beat JC/B Hop. Put the fight into perspective, look at the opponent, the weight etc etc. Let Jones fight someone at 175,a tough opponent, see how he does then and then we can say he is a match for Cal and BHop.
As for Tito,he lost but sounds as if he didn't look too bad.I still don't think he can fight at this weight against the guys in the 168 pound division,so I'm not really syre where he goes from here. I'm totally shocked that Roman lost?!

Guess who fell asleep during the Karmazin fight and only just woke up now. I'll give you a hint. It's me. Anyhow, gutted to have missed out but I'll be having a look at the replay this afternoon/evening hopefully, but if its a dull fight no doubt I'll be falling asleep again.

Very, very impressed by Jones. Jones vs. Clinton Woods woud be a good test for both. Then we can say truely how good Jones is right now.
Has Tito retired yet ??

I just watched the fight, and I thought it was entertaining fight, especially the first 4-5 rounds. Tito was very spirited at the beginning, but once Roy started finding the range on his punches, Tito didn't have an answer, which wasn't surprising.
But I agree with Gamo, anyone who thinks Roy would beat Calzaghe or Hopkins is getting a little carried away. I would put either Calzaghe or Hopkins as a solid favorite to beat Roy... especially Calzaghe.

I don't think anyone disputes Joe would be a big favourite if they fought but I certainly think Roy is capable of pulling a suprise. He seems to have reinvented himself with a new Ali like style.
When you consider that prime Roy Jones was possibly the greatest fighter ever it's certainly not outside the realms of possibility that he could be smart enough to retune his style to adapt to his older, less mobile body.
Ali did it, Ray Robinson was able to roll back the years and Big George managed it also to a lesser degree. Roy Jones was certainly as good as those guys at his peak and it's possible in my opinion that he could be able to stun the world with a comeback worthy of those guys and position himself well inside the Top 10 greatest of all time list.
I'm not saying it WILL happen I'm saying it's POSSIBLE.
