Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
I don't even see how it can be a TKO, if a fighter can't continue before 4 rounds isn't it a no contest like when a fighter gets cut due to illegal blow ? there was no count either so im totally confused here has the ref just made up his own rules ?
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
It as clearly a scissor clip crap move. Dawson cuffs his leg and shrugs him off huge, clear as fooking day. Ref was mute on both counts
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
So only one of us got it right in the poll at the top of this thread.
That's kinda funny.
I know Hopkins seems to have a hstory of overplaying the injury factor, but I tend to agree with his comments to Kellerman: that this is what it is. Dawson dipped low, Hopkins swung over him and maybe overdid that too as he put his weight on Dawson. Another typical tactic like walking the other fighter backwards by leaning - tire him out. And a head game to frustrate him, too. It's Hopkins. And Dawson didn't like it.
Who would? But Dawson overdid the reaction. What he did was illegal.
And the ref seemed to go into neutral and lose all sense of purpose and direction at this point as others have mentioned. No count for BHop, no warning to Dawson, no nothing. I was sure it would be either a no contest (boo hiss) or a DQ (yes!).
I hope that a medical exam proves a real injury, and that the decision is overturned. Dawson doesn't deserve to become a champion this way.
Sad. This following so closely on the heels of Mayweather-Ortiz is disheartening. (Not to compare the two in any way except that each is an abnormal, unexpected and controversial ending to a fairly major fight).
Fight looked even to me and I was hoping to see Hopkins turn it up else it might have gone the way of the Jermaine Taylor fights was my fear. Dawson looked like he could have been a real threat by being more active and bringing the fight. Shouldn'a had to tackle Hopkins to win.
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
What an abrupt ending. I'm glad I did not order the ppv for that one. Jesus Christ...
Bernard has faked in the past, especially in the Roy Jones rematch, but tonight Dawson scooped up Hopkins and dumped him on the ground.
Easily could have been a DQ, which might have been what Hopkins was aiming for and may have milked it a bit.
A no contest is the LEAST it could be.
But a fucking TKO win for Dawson !? WTF !?
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
Can't justify what happened by saying Hopkins did it in the past.
If Hopkins had a history of faking being low blowed, it wouldn't be justified if an opponent blatantly did it and then was awarded a win because of it.
Dawson was in the wrong, both in the foul, and then his behavior after the fight. Hopkins for once was legit fouled and injured. Wrong is wrong, it doesn't matter if he has faked injury in the past, it doesn't make it right that he was robbed tonight.
Hopkins deserves a rematch and Dawson is going to try to avoid it cause he knows.

Dawson did NOT scoop him up. Watch the video, Hopkins was climbing on his back. His right foot was already in the air before Dawson made his contact

Dawson ducked under Bernard, lifted him up with his torso, and for added help he used his left arm to lift Hopkins leg up and then throw him to the ground.

Watch it again. Bernard almost hopped up on his back. His right leg was off the ground. Tape don't lie
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
Looks like a doctor has said Hopkins dislocated a joint that connects the collar bone to the shoulder blade. No faking in this fight, hard to see them not changing it to a no decision.
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
I left Boxing a while ago for MMA (exept for Pacquiao), in terms of entertainment. but when I see stuff like this, .....where boxing did go ?
these referees should be fired or at least held accountable for their stupid decisions (have been a lot lately).
I don't miss boxing at all seeing stuff like that.
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
Even if injured Hopkins clearly brought it upon himself. You don't flop over and molest your opponent like he was doing. You are perfectly entitled to free yourself from the grip of someone. As for believing the latest update on Hopkins shoulder, I would like to know more than just be told that he has injured it. Let's see some evidence. The fans deserve that.
Also there is clear footage of Hopkins saying that he could not continue and was banging his other hand on the canvas. Now he was asked if he could continue repeatedly. Post fight in the Kellerman interview Hopkins said that he was never asked if he could continue. He has not only screwed up from having tried to smother his opponent by leaning all over him and being pushed away, he has been caught lying.
He was asked if he could continue and he said that he couldn't. Post fight he had gone into denial mode.
Hopkins is lame. At least go out on your guard or at least ask for 5 minutes first. But immediately, it was 'I can't continue!'. Quite a sad exit, but I guess it seldom ends that well for these old types.
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
The Rugby World Cup is being played in NZ, Dawson would be right at home. This fight was on it's way to being a total bore, but the truth is Boxing is the big loser here.:(

I think Dawson got it right, "Gangster" Hop just fucking quit, but I believe Hop wouldn't have quit if he'd known they were going to award Dawson with a TKO.
For what it's worth, I liked the way Dawson was fighting before the fight got stopped, it looked to me like Dawson might be on his way to a KO or at least winning a decision. I've got no sympathy for Hopkins whatsoever, he's used dirty tactics his entire career, and it's finally come back to haunt him.
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
We fans screw ourselves over the hardest with giving a pass on bullshit like this. Regardless of a fighters personality or style refs do not get to throw professionalism and right out of the window for the hell of it. Why fight, just ring the bell and raise a hand because some guys are dicks...we'll save alot of time! Simply step back, put your bias aside and reverse the roll to another fighter...would you except it! We open the doors to get ourselves played again over and over once you start picking which guys we are ok with screwed outta fights and which we object to. There was zero satisfaction in that ring lastnight. Nothing to help this sport.

Fans screw themselves over because they let their biased feelings for one fighter outweigh their morals and they make up a bunch of stupid arguments to try to defend it.

I'll never understand this. I could understand why you would leave for kickboxing or what not. I just don't see how wrestling is entertaining. I've watched UFC fights and for me the most entertaining part of the fights are the striking. Once they hit the ground, I go to sleep. Also, if you are leaving because of the referees you weren't a fan in the first place.

Well, I've been a boxing fan since the Hagler/Leonard/Hitman days. I Started boxing myself with Mike Tyson in my dreams and competed myself to a descent amateur national level. I'm not a die hard boxing fan, but I practiced boxing a lot and know the last 30 years of boxing in terms of "big/meaningful" matchs.
But I completely understand you might question this.
I still love boxing ! but not the way it's presented today. (maybe it explains more than the whole thing) :-)
Well, I'm not just tired of the referees (there were always bad referees in any eras). but I'm tired of the whole business. Fighters ducking Fighters. protected fighters 4 "WORLD" organization with 17 weight classes...Gosh I don't even know the world champions today in every division. We let bad organisation operates (WBA) and worst people ever to manage them (Suleiman/King).
The show have come to a point where it's laughable, good matchup takes 1-2 years to materialize...and so on and so on. it's never-ending story. Quite Frankly I would dream to see an UFC like in boxing...who mandates Mayweather to fight pacquiao...and if not then he should be banned to fight for minor division. Do you realize we might never seen this bout ?
On the UFC stuff, well it's not wrestling ! it's a lot more than that. and people on the ground with good Brazilian Jiu jutsu are lethal. once you get to know how difficult and technical is the ground game, you really appreciate the events.
it's just that it's more entertaining with a lot more quality shows..on a regular basis. The champs (they have what ? 7 weight classes) in the UFC can be recognised as legitimate champs of the world...
Well, it doesn't explain the whole situation, but for me it was enough to switch. not for ever, but for now !

It's still two dudes on the ground wrestling even if it involves a lot of skill. I don't find the grappling to be entertaining. And many guys won't fight standing up so the action of the whole fight is about whether one guy can get another guy on the ground.
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
To be honest i i blame both of them for that foul and Hopkins is dirty but hell i am a Holyfeild fan so dirty does not bother me much. I can not believe they called it a tko though it will be a no contest soon.
Re: Hopkins vs. Dawson on HBO PPV Oct 15th (Offical Sat Night chat thread)
I have no idea how old Hopkins is, but isnt he too old to be fighting??
