You won a few bucks then?
Great fight. Donaire got a boxing lesson. They had a mid size ring and Donaire could still not cut the ring off. He had Rigo moving the right way but was just out fought. The reason Donaire looked so one dimensional was because from the opening bell he was looking to land the highlight reel punch and Rigo summed it up best in the post fight interview.
Won $700 tonight and I'm kinda proud of myself that in my first post in fight predictions was pretty close to what transpired here. :D I'm gonna put 500 on Trout to win again, he made me a grand last time...God I turned to a degenerate gambler. Damn you school and your expensive books!
Good pick and nice little piece of change, i've got to go with Alvarez, but maybe I should listen to you next time.

No he meant up to 126. Tonight's fight was at 122

Rigon isn't someone i'd like to see fight again, if for no other reason then that mouthful of gold teeth is disgusting to look at, and that "jackel" shit is just plain sickening.
Before tonight Arum was saying if Donaire wins he would fight Juan Ma next in PR. But now Rigondeaux won who the hell does either guy fight next? Can't see HBO paying for a rematch. From a Top Rank promotional point of view the wrong guy won tonight. It's going to be interesting to see who these guys fight next if Arum can't sell HBO the rematch.

Rigo did exactly what he wanted to do tonight.

Donaire is moving to featherweight w/o a doubt. Rigo could go for Romero for the triple plate and then try to get the final Wbc trinket.

Yeah but if Donaire would have done the same thing he would have been the best Jr featherweight since Gomez right? End justifies the means kind of thing.

We don't need clown in boxing mate, he better be in circus and not in boxing. Even in Donaire's loss, he is still the best prospect at 130 than Rigo at any category.

There are times when boxers are not in their best form, Rios did not match his intensity with his first fight with Alvarado, JuanMa did not change tactics with Salido the second time around. JMM looks like a puppy when he fought with PBF but none of these matters because they were there taking the risk.
It's not the best Donaire who fought tonight but we cannot put him down because he lost to a cyclist and a clown like Rigo. He can still come up big at Featherweight.
Look at Timothy Bradley, he is still searching for respect even though he beat the best pound for pound guy in boxing.
Rigo did not get that respect from many boxing fans out there.

You are content to still overrate Donaire and his leapfroggn division jibber jabber. He has to strip himself down mentally, physically and be humble before he does shit at 126 +. Rigo crafted a blueprint and schooled him

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
How did you all have the fight, so far ive collected over 40 press scores who have a variety of scores.
I had it closer than man scoring for Rigondeaux 115-113

How come when a good boxer lost he became overrated. He fought the best there is in the division, give him credit for that and not bad-mouthing him. Hell, those press people who gave him Boxer of the Year Award was never wrong. Do you?
Like i said, being a champion, he must earn respect. Bradley did not get when he beats Pac, and so does Rigo.

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Look I cant even comment on this fight anymore. No personal offense but anyone who scored this 114/113 or 115/113 needs to have their heads examined. Seriously unbelievable.

What are you talking about. Clowning? He boxed his ears off. He dominated him in front of the whole world. How is Donaire even rated in this book you carry at 130? And if he does what makes him a prospect and not a contender? And what of 126? He is a little tubby I'll give you that.

You call that fight domination? Hell, what do you think of Mike Tyson beating the hell of all heavyweights during his time!!.
Is this a definition of domination?
Then i retire in this world of boxing if that is a domination in your vocabulary.
I have seen countless fight even Thunder Gatti would be shaking his head with you in disgust.
-
The better fighter with the better footwork and cleaner landing shots got the win. It wasn't domination but it was certainly a fight that Rigondeaux deserved the decision in clearly.

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
i like donaire, but he fought like a dumbass tonight!!! he looked bad!!! props to julie ledermans score, at she knows whats up....

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
How can anyone continue to call it 'the sweet science' if they cant see and appreciate great footwork?
I'd probably give up watching too.;D
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
You do know the greatest boxer of all time once won a round clean without throwing one shot dont you?
This was far from that; evade and catch was the most of what was going on, there was some moments of total disengagement, but they didnt last very long.
Honestly I recon some people allow what they dislike to dominate what they see by their feelings and some allow what they like to dominate how they feel and what they then can see.
Those Filipino fans that were booing, were booing cause they wanted a phone booth style fight their larger stronger fighter could win. Not cause they know or appreciate good boxing, those fans were enjoying it.

A definition of Groupie from Webster:
"A groupie is a person who seeks emotional and sexual intimacy with a musician or other celebrity or public figure. The term groupie is derived from group, in reference to a musical group,[1] but the word is also used in a more general sense, especially in casual conversation, to mean a particular kind of female fan assumed to be more interested in sex with rock stars than in their music.[2]"
This is not even applicable in here, it's boxing, i am not female nor a Filipino so i don't know what you are talking about. I am voicing my opinion on what there for us to digest.
Donaire still has a better career as a loser than Rigo as a winner, Bradley will concur with me;)

THIS.
It was very similar to a Bernard Hopkins schooling, but with more footwork. Few punches thrown per round, but the ones that landed were clean and significant like the one that busted up Donaire's eye in the 12th. VERY clear win for Rigondeuax.
Gutsy effort by Donaire, but he looked a lil outta shape and just had no clue how to fight someone who is FASTER than he is.
-
Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Donaire won the fight for me, the fight was not a classic and I do not want to see a rematch because it will be the same chess match. Donaire controlled the fight and dictated it for me, with the knock down I thought he had it in the bag even with the bad last round.
The arena was nice.

The arena was nice.
The arena was nice, the whole production was a tight ship with not to many frills very enjoyable.

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
Donaire is a good fighter but i find him bit overrated i mean he was ranked so high off just one top win forever and did nothing for a along time. I fell Donaire kinda got exposed and his lack of adapting was pretty apparent. As far a Rigondeaux i guess he deserves what is said about him after to nights lesson.

I had it 116 - 111 for Donaire.

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
I had Rigo winning by one round. I was counting landing clean shots on my fingers by having one fighter as one hand and the other the other hand, then removing shots off when Im out of fingers, works well until someone gets five clear shots ahead never happened in this fight though. I was giving Donaire the rounds where he was landing the odd harder shot. Dont think one of the judges did that though.

Close fight had Donaire, winning by 2 rounds it was very close nothing to shout or scream about
well done Rigondeaux.:)

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
This was a walkover for Rigo he gave Donaire a boxing lesson and a schooling throughout the fight
Donaire could not really get into the fight at all

Re: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux - Saturday night fight/chat thread
116- 111 Rigondeaux, Donaire just couldn't hit him enough and was somewhat pedestrian. Rigo was too slick and deserved the win, they will do it again and Donaire will have to think of something else in fight two?

Im picking Donaire to win this by KO but I would not be suprised if Rigo won. He is the best counter puncher i have seen in a long time and if he connects a few big shots early Donaire could start getting scared to throw.
Another thing i find strange with comments here is talking of level of opponents. Donaire hasnt fought that many brilliant fighters. Arce, Nishioka, Mathubela, Montiel are all good fighters but none i would consider great. Vasquez just got beaten by an unknown Jap who had heart but was nothing special. I think Rigo would beat any of these fighters too.
I dont care who wins and just hope its a great fight

Silkeyjoe -Right, just in case Rigon wins, that way you won't have to eat as much crow.
An American from Texas walks into a bar in Ireland, he spots a beautiful girl setting at a table, goes over and introduces himself, and offers to buy her a pint. She accepts the offer and the Texan exclaims: You must be Irish, because my penis is Dublin.
No crow for me thanks. Not shocked by this result at all. Rigo was a step up in class from what Donaire was used to fighting as was Donaire from what Rigo had been fighting. I just loved all the stupid comments on how Donaire was gonna school him its like they never seen Rigo fight before.

TBH, i'm disappointed in the result, I was expecting to see the Cuban "amateur" get his 'jackel' ass kicked. I'm not about to become a fan anytime soon.
You've got to give Rigo credit, he negated Donaire's power with his slick defense and countered well all night. With the exception of the KD in the 10th round, Donaire's punches were for the most part ineffective.

I'm not shocked, just surprised that 'jackel' went 12 rounds with one of best fighters in the world. What really won the fight for Rigo was his defense, and you are correct, I hadn't seen enough of Rigo to know he was that good.

I had it 116-115 for Rigo. I scored 5 rounds even and if i had a gun to my head to pick a winner of each Id have the scores 114-113 to Rigo.

@Dia bando - Agreed, unless you were a Rigon fan, it wasn't a very entertaining fight to watch, especially after all the hype this fight generated.
I don't know what Donaire could do different to win in a rematch, the bottom line is Rigon is good technically, and very hard to hit with clean punches.
cheers
