In a historial look at the boxrec record it is. But he beat up an invalid. He'll still lose to Mayweather again, even Alvarez when he eventually fights him. Watch him call Mayweather out.

You could see from the off that Martinez had little movement and that he had no way fight in his usual style. In fact, I don't think Martinez should have been fighting seeing how weak his movement was. His style is all about being unorthodox, with movement, and landing hard shots with the power from the legs. I don't think I saw a power shot land. I don't give Cotto much credit for that, he picked his way to a title, and most would look good against this 39 year old Martinez.
Step up Cotto and beat a fighter in his prime for ooh maybe the first time in half a decade. I feel sorry for Martinez, but he shouldn't have fought. He must have known his condition, he is smart. Little credit for that.
Fighter knows himself beyond a corner or yesmen, for sure. Boxers fight for money and prize fighting. But the way he has conducted himself in and out of the ring...fighting when hit, hurt and down on numerous occasions...I cannot buy at all he cashed out and doubted himself. No need for that
Cotto worked on lovely sight! Video
Martinez took all the guess work out of what happened by explaining he never recovered from that first hard shot. Of course the weakest part of his body his knee show up, I though it was a good decision for Martinez' corner to throw in the towel.
Just wish he had gone out at the hands of a true middle? So I guess citto is.ring mw champ now
Props to Inuit, he had confidence in a great fighter. I was not so clever
That first round was just horrible to watch. It really wasn't so much that Cotto was being a monster, it was simply that Martinez had no coordination and kept falling down. You saw from the first 30 seconds the condition he was in. It was a very cynical ploy on the part of the Cotto team and I now think it rather despicable. However, Martinez signed to fight and being an intelligent man, should have known better. Cotto is a good fighter and you don't play games signing up to fight good fighters when you are effectively shot.
Reading through this thread with comments about a career defining fight and masterclass. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. You don't have a career defining fight against a man who is half disabled. The obvious fact of disability is a slight detraction to such claims. I felt like I was watching a bit of a freakshow during that first round and it was unpleasant seeing it go on and for some to claim it has meaning. Please.
