I think Dan Rafaels only knowledge of fights is late at night against 12 rounders of gas attacks. What a pumpkinheaded fool.

Re: The coveted return of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Taylor vs Pavlik!!!
Personnaly,I think the ref could have counted until he fell asleep.Taylor was not getting up.I gained respect for Taylor big time but To Me He Fights like an absolute amatuer at times.I think Taylors mental Ko will be harder to overcome than any physical damage he went through.
I dont know what happened to Dan Rafael. When he was with USA today he really put boxing in the publics eye and did some awesome weekly breakdowns on top tens and upcoming bouts. He knows his stuff, but when he struck out on his own I think the glare of the spotlight blinded him and now hes a Gloryboy

Re: The coveted return of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Taylor vs Pavlik!!!
I found the fights that evening on HBO to be entertaining and the middleweight fight between Pavlik and Taylor to be the fight of the year in the middleweight division. Pavlik wanted it more than Taylor. Taylor was not a hungry fighter and he was definitely out of gas and experience had nothing to do with it. Pavlik wanted to win and then he wanted to please in that order and the fact that he wanted to be in the company of the rest of the Youngstown bunch didn't hurt either. I was surprised at the more experienced fighter losing but I liked Pavlik anyway. He should keep his tongue in his mouth for the rematch because it might be a target for the ex champ and we can't ignore him either.

Thats exactly how i felt about it.
WTF!!! You guys are being way too harsh on Larry. I'm actually a big fan1 And Kellerman to Merchant is an insult of the highest proportions!!!
Look i got nothing against Larry, but its times like that which really highlight the fact that he never boxed. Could u imagine Lennox saying that?

Re: The coveted return of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Taylor vs Pavlik!!!
That was a good fight. Pavlik was gettin his ass whipped bad in the first two rounds, but got up and turned it around with his jab and one-two. All those jabs and straight rights caught up to Taylor in the seventh and knocked him out. He had no answer for Pavlik's jab and one-two. Great heart by both fighters, every time Taylor's back hit the ropes he came off firing like a motheruker. I don't see Pavlik being champ for a long time or nothin, so we better enjoy him while he lasts, he's a very exciting fighter with definite power and heart.

Pavlik wern't getting his ass kicked in 1st round he outlanded Taylor 44 to 26 but i do agree with the rest he did turn it around big time after the 2nd round.
And one more thing you say Pavlik won't be champion for long but who is going to beat him at Middleweight ??

I don't know, maybe Arthur Abraham. That is a good question. Its just that big punchers like Pavlik who have pretty much no head movement and can be hurt on the chin, usually do not last long as World Champions. But Taylor was the best Middlweight and Miranda was the most dangerous and he knocked both of em out so right now I dunno who could beat Pavlik.

Kelly's chin is extremely sturdy, he took Miranda's power and got his face turn to Hamburger by Pantera and stood up excellent... Pavlik brought that Knockdown on himself by dropping his hands after the 1st shot and Showboated and Jermain obliged

Thats true, but he took a lot of punches from Miranda while Miranda was going backwards too. And didn't Pavlik get knocked down by Bronco McKart, or it was a slip or somethin. And Zuniga, or Zertuche I forget his last name, guy who just KO'd Victor Oganov on Showbox, yeah he dropped Pavlik too.

Re: The coveted return of Wacko's Drunken Round by Round Taylor vs Pavlik!!!
Good thing is that so far, he's always gotten back up - and won. I'm not saying he's unbeatable, far from it, but he's a pretty sturdy boy, no matter if he looks it or not.

The McKart knockdown was a flash knockdown McKart caught him with a body shot then a shot to the shoulder and then both of Pavlik's gloves touched the canvas and it was ruled a knockdown but it was only a flash knockdown nothing else.

I would rather see a fighter who has been knocked down, but got back up to win than a fighter who has never tasted canvas. The former knows what he's getting into and how to get out of it, and the latter is a crap shoot - maybe they get up, or maybe they panic and blow it right there.

Now you think Winky could hang with a live punching smashing machine who dosent stop throwing... Winky would be giving up a tremendous size advantage.. Winky would get KTFO
Winky should never have fought at light heavy, the size differntial against Hopkins at LH to Hopkins is actually more than it is to Pavlik at Middle.
Bernard is an inch shorter than Kelly, only with broader shoulders, larger arms, bigger chest...just in general a bigger man.
Add that to the fact tha Winky was fighting at a unnatural weight 3 degrees north of his natural light middle home and uv formulated a pretty good excuse for the Hopkins display!
I dont think Winky is shot (i no u didn say that JT) at all and i think that he may be effective again somewhere in the land of middles

'WACKO'
I know that most do not share this view & that might sound idiotic, but Taylor was one hell of a competitor in his younger days. He was a gutty kid & a fierce contender that knew exactly what he wanted & that the only way to get it was by putting the man across the ring from him on the seat of his pants…& that was just how got it. Now it seems that he’s more of a suit & tie poster boy that’s all S*** & giggles with little of the previous pop that used to command his performances. Anyone that has followed Taylor as I have knows that he‘s capable of so much more than he’s shown over the last two to three years. The kid could reach greatness if he would only perform.
Absolutely nailed it there mate and i (like yourself) have seen sh*tloads of Taylor coming through the ranks in the last 3/4 years (we get ESPN Friday fight night over here at a silly hour of a weekdsy morning-taped loads of them over the years and Taylor got loads of coverage) ;)
When he earnt the cash the hunger went too ;)

:coolclick: Smashes.
Here's the thing...& youv'e been here long enough to hear me preaching while all those others were whining & crying about me being a fan & critic of Taylor...but what I said would happen did.
He, as you so perfectly put it, earnt the cash & spent the hunger. Whether he wins the rematch or not...Taylor's done.
I know that sounds harsh but he is. He's lost his drive 100%. Even when he was putting it on Pavlik you could read his face...he was a bit unsure of what he had done & how he was gonna finish...Pavlik on the other hand finished it for him.
I hate to sound like a broken record but I've followed Taylor through the Olympics all the way to date & he's done nothing but disappoint once he really stepped up. He was eating on a fine diet of blown up welters & light middles all the way to Joppy & his sparring partner Eduord.
Watch the Hopkins fights again. He lost the first one & Hopkins pretty much gave it away. The second one...very close but Taylor did win.
Winky beat him & should never have fought Hopkins...that's neither here nor there though.
Anywho, let's wash the sticky offa this ole' rag & get another DRBR crankin!
Cheers bitches...& good points smashes!

When he earnt the cash the hunger went too ;)
Taylor was impressive in Pavlik fight even better than i expected i wouldn't mind seeing a rematch.

OK<, I agree with most of your post, and CC for it, but this statement does not make any sense. Pavlik is probably going to be on a lot of top 10 p4p lists now...if Taylor were to win the rematch, how in world would he still be "done"? A win (especially a knockout win) would put him right back in the p4p mix it seems clear to me. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your meaning here.
I do agree, though, that he seemed to lose some of his edge after winning the title, particularly after the Winky fight. This loss may be just the wake up call Taylor needed. If the rematch happens, I think you'll see a hungry Taylor eager to prove that fight a fluke, and I think he'll have a pretty good chance to win it. Or it could go the other way and all his confidence might be shot. Guess we'll see. He seems pretty eager for the rematch, though.

You know how they talk about the newspapers, don't believe everything you read? The boxing media is no different my man. Next time, turn off the commentary and bear that in mind. Taylor has a good image, HBO and the boxing organisations will do what they can to keep it up. If you can't see Pavlik won the 3rd round for instance, your either crazy or jaded.
I know that I'm a little late on this response...but...heh heh heh heh... :coolclick: Big Dan... dead on zee money! :coolclick:
I wonder if Pooh Bear's cryin' over the busted honeypot like you damned well know HBO is?
Poor poor Manny...he got beaten by a driveway polisher. Pavlik's been a looooooooooooong time comin. He's been simmering on the back burner for the last 4 years...let's see how long he can boil now.
Personally...I think that if Pavlik is smart & his team uses their heads...matched correctly he could go far. Throw him in with Winky, Calzaghe, Kessler, or someone like that & he'll be yesterday's lunch. I want Pavlik to succeed. I want to see him go far...couldn't put a nicer or more humble face on boxing than Kelly Pavlik & his team.
