Respect to Hopkins though.. Apart from the grabbing, which lets face it, has been an intergral part of him being a champion,,, and I have all respect for him as a champion....
90% of the first few rounds, he took all assets away from Calzaghe and had him questioning himself.. He wasn't relaxed or loose or able to find a way to throw any decent punches... Even heading into the fight, Calzaghe never looked himself.. The last 4 or 5 rounds Joe looked better and was able to deal with Hopkins.. But 70% of the time, Hopkins took away most of Joe's assets, and he had to eek out a messy decision that was always going to be close...

He had enough in the tank and arsenal though,,, others wouldn't have come out on top Hopkins..
Hopkins I knew was going to be his toughest fight regardless of age.. Mainly due to his style and ring smarts at smothering another guys work..
I would not have argued to dramatically if Hopkins was given the win,,, but I think over all, Joe was able to show that bit more, and showed he deserved the points more..
Probably not by as much as one of the judges had it, but anyway...

Calzaghe never looked like himself, all credit to Hopkins for that.. But still came out on top of a messy win..

CONGRATS JOE!!!!! Repect to Hopkins for doing what he always does and never making this an easy fight for a single second for Calzaghe.

I thought it was very close but missed the 4th round so I'll have to review it better tonight but it was just a question of how you score fights imo. I found myself rewarding a stiff Hopkins shot much more then I would a Calzaghe amateur style flurry. But then there were times where Joe's dominance could not be denied.

I have got to be honest, Joe is a bit lucky because he fought stupid for a good majority of this fight. There was no reason he shouldn't have been jabbing Hopkins at all times, the jab was neutralizing Hopkins' jumps inside and the jab was like a wall. Calzaghe did better when the fight went inside on his terms then he did with Hopkins jumping in and forcing them to fight square.

Dirty dirty fight though no doubt. I hate that stuff but at least Cortez was quick to break.

That was a damn entertaining fight. The only real surprise was the knockdown - otherwise, Joe's workrate vs. Bernard's old school was exactly what we expected.

I gotta give it up for Hopkins, though. He's the poster child for tactical boxing...and that's why he's still competitive in his 40's.

Joe vs. Roy, huh? I'll watch! ;D

Another outstanding performance from Fair But Firm too. Joe will now fight Roy Jones in front of 80 000 and he can get knocked down by Jones and get a couple of minutes to recover as far as I'm concerned. Micky Vann should be referee.

Respect all around for both,I am a Long term "live" Hopkins fan ...but there was no "Robbery" here IMo, very nip & tuck and close.Lets not loose sight also....There was no walk over By Calzaghe,No Smashing or Knocking the old man out,No 1800 hundred punches etc.He was in depths and forced to solve some questions here and looked lost at times but he did adjust and troop through to win.Solid on both and respect deserved

Hopkins was quite the sore loser afterwards, and I'm glad that Max called him out on him playing the Drama Queen on that not so low blow.

Hopkins never seems to man up on a loss, and that's one of the reasons I don't like him.

Another Hopkins fight... yet another controversial decision that leaves a sour taste in many fans mouths. WTF? Can't we just once have a definitive victory from someone in a Hopkins fight?

this match was like i said b4......
BHOP would of won if he were to win the first six rounds. his body does not have what it takes like i said. on another thread on the WEIHG IN pics you can clearly see BHOP's body was fatigued. ONce again it proves that he needs a rest and let see what he is going to do here on out.

JC was the aggressor just what judges love to see. he was more active even though BHOP got a clean shot. JOE CORTEZ once again put a mediocre display in refereeing. JC who is the NEW CHAMPION of the WORLD showed his skills which was a harder time for him than any other boxer he has matched. BHOP was holding alot which i dispize any boxer holding because its "BOXING". BHOP was also retreating unlike he did with TARVER. you don't win points by walking away. that low blow was a bit harsh but hey if nedded all that tome to get a breather so be it. after 7th round it was all JOE. i don't know about BHOP saying he controlled the fight and it's o.k. for him to say that he's a legend in my books.

Dispite what we've just seen..........both fighters are the worlds best and that is that.
