And of course as we get closer to Christmas: Scrooged, all the Rankin & Bass Christmas movies, Mr. Magoo's Christmas, Charlie Brown Christmas, etc.
Quality! You better stack you some Emmet Otter Jug band Christmas on that plate ;D. Walked into Trading Places for the 101 time the other night. Great flick and fits the season.
Trading Places is an ALL-TIME CLASSIC.
Jamie Lee Curtis. :lickish:
That classic scene in True Lies...... yummy.

@walrus , have you watched Ash Wednesday? Good Catholic gangster movie.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I'm just watching the girl with all the gifts.
It was filmed outside where I work, I managed to have a wonder around the set one of the days, it looked as cheap as shit so I'm interested to see how they have polished it up.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Steven Speilsberg did some filming in Birmingham city centre October/November time.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
well I watched it, film was alright, decent twist on the tired zombie genre, not brilliant
I spotted the part that was filmed where I work, I think it was an hour into the film, literally on screen for all of 2.5 seconds maximum, it took them 4 days to film it as well.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Got my wife into 'Sunset Boulevard' she was captivated by Gloria Swanson as 'Norma Desmond' and truly it is one of the best acting displays I can recall. Very emotive, but not over acted in any way she walked a tightrope with that performance and the film was shot so well too, striking visuals for a black and white film.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
A Netflix original called 'Clinical' it's a decent little flick about a Psychiatrist who specializes in trauma and her dealing with her own traumas. It is verging on a horror movie, but stops just short. There are hints of the supernatural but never anything solid. It was a good little picture.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched Batman v Superman and I liked it but I am a comic geek and understood a lot of it.
Fantastic Four was better than the 2 older versions but was not brilliant.

No I just expected you to talk about the movie a little. You gave this Asperger's/Rainman kind of post....

Ok sorry man. Well.... it's basically a sci fi kind of movie, which I generally like..... but with a love story intertwined to it, which of course appeals to the gentler gender. I don't know..... I liked it, even though I read nothing but crappy reviews on it. Me and movie reviews generally don't get along too well. ;D

Haha, no worries just poking some fun at you.
I like some really crap films, I mean just atrociously bad movies, movies where directors should have been taken behind a barn and shot after the editing process. I enjoy explaining WHY I like those movies more the bad ones than the good ones. The good movies I'll just tell people "Go see this movie!" the bad movies I feel I owe a proper explanation about what to look for, where the joy is in those films.

You know.... as movies are concerned it's really in the eye of the beholder. I remember my wife wanted us to go see (years ago) a highly acclaimed movie called Bridges of Madison County. I should've known any romantic movie with Clint Eastwood in it was going to have something wrong. Now.... I'm not saying it was an entirely bad movie..... but I'll be damned if after 20 minutes or so I was about to drift into a coma. It seems the first 15 or 20 minutes of the film is (if you haven't seen it) devoted to the female character's now grown kids (female lead is Meryl Streep) looking over some of her things, as she has just died.... and they find this letter which of course takes the movie back to when they were kids, and the mother had an affair (with Eastwood). That first part of the movie wasn't just slow. I would've seen more action watching a glacier move. Another chick movie my wife dragged me to go see was Waiting to Exhale. Luckily, we both walked out halfway through. Where I drew the line and luckily my wife took pity on me, was for Brokeback Mountain. No way in hell.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I watched Passengers. It was fucking shit. It was fucking shit because it was set up by a tagline of 'there's a reason why we woke up early' Or words to that effect.
Basic plot, mega ship full of passengers from Earth in suspended animation for the duration of the journey to a new home/planet.
Whilst there were reasons for them waking up early, the reason was about as exciting as getting a flat on the motorway. Except the motorway is space and your car is a giant nuclear powered space ship. Relatively speaking though, the same thing.
Whilst there turned out to be a need for a second body to do what needed to be done, it could have been anyone, there was no particular skill involved other than looking like something Chris Pratt or whatever his name is would like to stick his cock in.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched Spectre and it should be the final Bond film. It was good but has no where to go from there.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched 'Young Man With a Horn' starring Kirk Douglas, Doris Day, and Lauren Bacall, the music was done by THE Harry James an amazing trumpet player not celebrated as he should be really. Extremely talented and was married to Betty Grable for a while and his eulogy in 1983 was performed by Frank Sinatra so the guy had big time pull.
Anywho the film 'Young man With a Horn' is supposed to be a dramatic take on the life of Bix Beiderbecke who was a famous trumpet player in his own right but succumbed to the bottle before he ever truly realized his fame much like a Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon or Brad Nowell of Sublime. Those guys burned bright and sparked out, they never got commercial, they never sold out, they never faded talentwise, they just had all this talent and then poof gone. Unlike say a Chet Baker who faded into drugs and burned many bridges living the "artist's" lifestyle of booze, drugs, and women.
The film is stereotypical 1950's though, it has a happier kind of ending....much happier than Bix Beiderbecke's end where he suffered from the delirium tremens and died in agonizing pain due to his abuse of alcohol.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched Southpaw which was better than I expected but do not know why it was called southpaw. It should have been the film Sylvester made for Rocky 5.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Magnificent 7 (2016) version.
Really enjoyed it. I should remember the original to be honest and Im not sure how sympathetic the reboot is. My Dad used to have cowboy films on all the time, half of them were boring as fuck and some of the more memorable ones got lost in the haze.
Basically yeah, some cunt moves on a gold mining town and starts killing fuckers to take the land. The locals decide to hire some guns to sort them out. The Magnificent 7 are formed, but there's an underlying reason for them being there.
I kinda gave Chris Pratt a bit of a pass for Passengers ion this one as he's just that kinda bloke you want to be your mate. Like Ryan Reynolds, they're just difficult to dislike.
Ethan Hawke's character annoyed me a bit. Twat. Denzels opening scene was awesome.
-
re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Just out of interest (to a boring cunt like me, anyway) the same geezer - Antoine Fuqua - directed the last two films mentioned. His four films with Denzil/Hawke have all been mustard/good. His others, like Southpaw, pony/good.
-
re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Just watched Season 1 of True Detective starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson......woah, that was a slow build up but man what a brilliantly written and acted series. And yes, it DOES tie in to Pizzagate/Pedogate.
Fucking heavy shit, that series....very intense to watch.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Trainspotting 2, absolute shite
They made such a big deal about leaving it 20 years so they could keep it faithful to the book bit all you got was a 2 hour homage to the original.
Teasing lust for life through the whole film, yeah I know it's coming
showing us a shitty bog
showing Renton leaning on the bonnet of a car smirking
showing the actual scene where begbie this the glass over the the balcony
Yeah I get it it's trainspotting 2, the reason I'm here is because I want to see the sequel not a poor attempt of a nostalgic shot for shot remake.
Porno was really fucking dark in places and I was looking forward to seeing that element of it, begbie being an outright psycho , spud hitting absolute rock bottom to the point he nearly sucks someone off to get drugs and he begs begbie to kill him
Instead we get rehashed scenes from the first film and a piss poor story line.
2 scenes that were good were the "choose life" speech, they actually updated it really well. The scene where sickboy and Renton get back together, they felt like scenes made for people who had aged 20 years since the original, the rest of the film felt like it was made for people who wanted to forget that they had aged 20 years since the original.
I've had a drink so I might pop back tomorrow and amend this post just incase it is littered with spelling mistakes or doesn't make sense.
Read the book don't watch the film

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Just had a look at my post from last night and I agree with it all, I thought that because I had 8 or 9 pints of stella what I was typing it that I may have disagreed with myself this morning but nope I stand by it all.
saying it was absolute shite was a bit harsh, it wasn't that bad but all my other points stand

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Gold - was a bit long (2 hrs). Wasn't that great. It reminded me of another movie but I can't place it. McConaughey puts his last dollars into digging for gold in Indonesia.

re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Age of ultron, civil war and Ant man are funny movies and loved them.

Just finished watching The Witch. Don't waste your time.
Live by Night. Ben Affleck as a 1920s Boston gangster. It was decent.

The Witch or the VVitch?
If you mean the VVitch then I tried watching that as well but just couldn't get into it, ended up witching it off after about an hour.

It was called The Witch, original title The VVitch: A New-England Folktale. I think it's the same movie you're talking about.

yeah that's the badger, slow, boring, tedious, I know it has had good reviews and I normally get on well with films like that but I just couldn't sitck at this one.
and the bit I have bolded from my other post was a genuine typo, ended up being a decent little pun though so I'm leaving it in there.

Bone tomahawk was fucking brilliant man, the dude that made it also wrote a book called "wraiths of the broken land" I remember reading it and all the way through thinking how similar in style it was to bone tomahawk and only realised once I had finished that they are both by the same dude.
Both were great
