Ok that was a morbid flick. Range from full frontal neked gran to a depressing ending over an open fire :-X. I need to stick to classic westerns and action movies from now on ;D.

Yea that would be a hard life. The daughter was brutal with the shrooms. I thought that was the way it would go. And with the wire, did she? Didn't she? Glad she didn't but what sort of life ahead?

Actually started that as well after so much hype. Feel like half Freaks and Geeks and half Night Gallery or something. Decent enough and they really pack it with nods to pop culture favs of time which probably has much to do with success, one massive flashback ;D. Karate Kid, Ghostbusters costumes only months after movie release didn't happen but eye candy for us geezers. The sister and her boyfriend with the massive overdone hairdo are pretty annoying.

That sister is odd looking....like she's not full human sized except for her massive noggin. Big old Kennedy chin.
Steve the crazy haired boyfriend is great at playing the douchey '80's bad guy.
I like seeing the 80's stars come back and play some key characters, Sean Astin and Paul Reiser (God he's looking old dude) have been awesome. I'm thinking in Season 3 you need Craig T. Nelson (of Poltergeist and Coach) and Bronson Pinchot (of Risky Business, Beverly Hills Cop, Perfect Strangers, The Langoliers, and Second Sight)...there MUST be roles for them! Too bad Mary Ellen Trainor has passed away (typical 1980's mom from The Goonies and The Monster Squad) she would have been PERFECT back int he 80's.

It's like she is 16 going on 30 ffs, finished season last night..ffs only 9 episodes ?..and agree with bringing back some stand out actors from days gone by. Watching Astin there he really is not a bad actor at all. Perfectly cast as the ho hum well intentioned wiz kid guy infatuated with the mom. They lost me in one episode when 'Eleven' tries to find her 'sister' and it turns into a B movie version super hero flick meets Suicide Squad.
The product placement still gets me as everything is so instant to fit into 1984, from movies to campaign yard posters but yes I sure as shat had to fact check the Kill em All album and the original Monster Manual for d&d ;D.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
F-ck me Max's brother was a douche. They had to try and make us feel sorry for him when his old man whacked him. Uncanny how much he looked like Rob Lowe or Zac Efron. Racist to boot too.

Yeah, she's got the gigantic head of a 30 year old and the body of a 14 year old...sooo strange. I am amazed she can walk upright without assistance. Got the resting confused bitch face down pat though.
Sean Astin did great, he was part Mikey from Goonies and part Rudy from Rudy,
The soundtrack has been great and the relatability to the era/characters is also great...very good buddy adventure kind of thing going.

Yes, agreed with all of those I'm surprised he's actually an Aussie, great accent work and classic character.
Steve has really come around as a character.
What gets me is how much the dude who plays Jonathan Byers looks like River Phoenix....keep that man away from the Viper Room, holy shit
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
River with a touch of down syndrome maybe. JK. Felt sorry for Dustin at the end, until the sister danced with him.
Next season will be interesting, wonder if they focus on 09 or 10? Will the group stay together with things like girls now starting to perk their interests.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
There is something about the midget headed bird though, she's certainly not ugly, I reckon she just needs feeding up a bit.
Stranger things 2 was brilliant anyway
Seeing as this is a film thread I'm going to get back on topic and actually talk about a film
Valerian and a 1000 planets or whatever the fuck it's called, fucking terrible, I'm an hour in and it's just really really bad in every way possible.

She could use a few pounds, but yeah she's alright I guess.
Indeed it was.
So Valerian....was it bad like funny and amusing in it's badness or was it just god awful? Describe the badness....some awful movies I really enjoy.

@El Kabong no it was just fucking awful, I put it on expecting a bit of mindless 5th element style brainless sci fi rubbish...it was just...terrible...like really really terrible
Don't watch it, even if you are looking for something terrible

Quality movie that one. Great cast, poor Indian fellow died very shortly after being in I think it was Poltergeist.

I have wondered about that one. So it's bad then? Shame.
I've got 'Howard The Duck' up next in my queue. Yup, classic.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
After the nostalgia of 'Howard The Duck' I'm starting off the holiday season....got a few Christmas movies ready to go: A Bing Crosby Christmas, Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (Finnish film about an evil Santa), Mixed Nuts (starring Steve Martin), A Merry Friggin Christmas (starring the late Robin Williams), The Night Before (Seth Rogan, JGL), SNL Christmas, Black Christmas the original.
I do enjoy Christmas and Thanksgiving doesn't really have many movies based on it/made for it other than Planes, Trains, and Automobiles which is very awesome.

Funny isn't it that video games are better than the movies about them...I mean I never expected Super Mario Bros to be winning an Oscar, but a lot of those movies really suck like BAD and they start out with good source material, good enough plot to make a movie about but in the movies they seem so forced, so ham handed.
Other bad ones: Doom, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Warcraft, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Hitman, Max Payne, Silent Hill, Double Dragon
I mean those are some DOGS right there man.....yeeesh....where as video games based off of movies, Godfather 1 & 2, top quality ;)

Ahh Howard. Hey still a better Marvel movie than Fantastic Four 94 ;D.
Hateful Eight I could give another chance. Tarintino to me runs hot and cold and just came off forced, especially Russell and some of the flat punchy jokes.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Lea Thompson had a really odd movie career....in the 80s alone she made out with a duck AND Marty McFly who was her on screen son....she only got naked for All The Right Moves though so at least that was not odd. She damned near got the kit off for Howard.
I've just started watching 'The Keepers' on Netflix....fucking WOW that is a deep dark rabbit hole right there. The Catholic Church never fails to disappoint, every single time. Holy shit dude.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
So just to explain a bit about 'The Keepers' in case anyone has seen it pop up on Netflix and doesn't know what it's about or anyone who might be interested in it....
I'm 2 whole episodes in so this being a documentary the plot could take a few more twists and turns (I wholeheartedly expect it to be honest).
So these 2 Priests at this Catholic High School abused their students and apparently they had the police involved as abusers of their students as well and 1 nun was going to alert the authorities and she was murdered.
Fucking craaaaaaazytown shit
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
@El Kabong have you watched The Sinner on Netflix yet? its about some bird (Jessica biel) who just goes postal and stabs some poor dude to death on a beach.
She claims that she has no idea why she done it, she'd never met the bloke, police are pleased to be able to just put it on her and send her down but there is one copper (who just so happens to be a former president who saved the world from an alien attack) believes that there is more to the story than she is letting on.
I'm 5 episodes in, its pretty good, maybe not as good as it could have been (I think it has been a bit overshadowed by MindHunter and Stranger Things 2, I mean they are two pretty big series to follow up with)
Worth a watch I'd say.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
The Sinner's not bad, feel sorry for the sister, the guy who got stab was just trying to help. Nice twist at the end. Like Mindhunter as well.
Watch Blade of the immortal. Pretty good samurai movie based on manga. Lots of sword fights.

I do not mind spoilers as it saves me £7 and not go to the cinema. :)

Hmmm I had not seen nor heard about that one, I may have to check it out.
Mindhunter was fucking epic in the first season I hope the second season is just as good. Stranger Things has yet to disappoint as well.

Well be careful with 'The Keepers' it is dark and it is infuriating like I said the Catholic Church never fails to disappoint. 'The Keepers' has a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes if that gives you any idea as to how well it's done.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
@El Kabong I've just finished the sinner, you should definitely give it a go, I reckon you'd like it.
I just hope they keep it as a stand alone series rather than trying to push for a 2nd series, you can tell from the very first episode that 1 series is all that is required.
I'm gunna get started in the keepers now, see what I think of that
-

I will check it out....I had just started a documentary titled 'Karl Marx City' which was about a supposed former Stasi Informer killing himself, haven't gotten too far into it.
I've saved 'The Sinner' to my queue, it's not streaming in the US

I'm going to guess it won't turn you Catholic ;D but yeah let me know what you think

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I watched 'Spotlight' which was about The Boston Globe stories on the rampant Catholic Church pedo problem as it was somewhat related to what 'The Keepers' covered. I have to say, that movie probably is the same thing that Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep will do in 'The Post'. It's ham handed in praising journalists (even though a lot of those guys covered for the Catholic Church too) as some kind of unwavering moral warriors. The movie depicted 9/11 as nothing more than a setback to covering their story than an actual tragedy which was a little shocking to me.
I will say that Mark Ruffalo's acting choices in that movie took me a little out of it, he was trying SO hard to be Bostonian looking that it was funny. He didn't overdo it with the accent he pursed his lips kind of tight and to one side of his face....sooooo odd
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epKmOtDZj5Q
....sideways talking pursed lipped goober
Sometimes that throws me off of a movie. This one could have been a great movie if not for the ham handed nature of the writing and the acting. Just too forced IMO, it should have felt more natural.
Anywho next up is an old classic 'The Man Who Came to Dinner' starring that old queen Monty Woolley and Bette Davis with a special appearance by Jimmy Durante
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched 'The Man Who Came to Dinner' very funny movie, Monty Woolley reminds me a bit of miles. It is a classic film and decent play these days I believe Nathan Lane (whom I find quite funny) stars in it now.
I also watched 'Hostage to the Devil' which is about father Malichi Martin....been on a big Catholic kick recently for some reason....anywho after all the pedo stuff and horrible priests there were I decided to see if this was in any way redeeming to the Church. It did not turn out to be. As someone who quite enjoys Psychology I often wonder about possession and how it would present itself ('The Exorcism of Emily Rose' did a great job showing that dichotomy between faith and science). Malichi Martin is an odd figure, a Jesuit who left the Vatican after the Second Vatican Council and came to America doing exorcisms and talk shows like Art Bell
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched Chappie. Wasn't the full on robo-cop flick I thought but found a strange attraction for the weird blond haired chick with the funny accent. Win-win.

You should read hostage to the devil, it's fucking brilliant, one of the best books on exorcism and possession that I have read.
Also if you like the exorcism of Emily Rose then read up on anneliese michel, that's the case that the film is based on (probably the most well known and well documented case of an exorcism)
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I like The Exorcist tv show, it's not great but I like that they tied it back into the first movie. Didn't really like the Emily Rose movie but that was a while ago, might have to give it another watch maybe.
I thought Keepers was pretty tame really. What does that say about me? I guess we've heard it all before and have come to expect this from law enforcement/ government etc. Anyone who watched it got a theory on who did it? Ed and the gay brother Billy were suspicious and the guy she was in love with Koob and that other nun Russell know more than they were letting on. Anyway cheers. Was a good watch overall.
I know this is supposed to be films but Marvel's The Punisher is pretty good.
I've got Lucky Logan to watch but not really interested for some reason, anyone seen that yet?

@Alpha The exorcist series started off strong and degenerated into ridiculousness, it was good the way that they tied it into the film but that didn't save it in my opinion.
Had they kept it as a single exorcism then it would have been fine and it could have faithfully concluded Regans story, had it been just 5 or 6 episodes then it would have benefited from stronger writing and not suffered from as much filler, the whole thing with the rich folk sitting around the table begging to be possessed was cringe worthy.
The second series is even worse, now we have two ex priests running around finding people who require exorcisms in every town the visit, I'm about 5 episodes into it and it is just a complete departure from anything that the original was ever about, it might have been a little more enjoyable if they were not still using The Exorcist name, had it been in the same vein as American Horror Story where each season is completely different then I may have been able to get on board with it a little bit more.
I know I should probably ignore the Exorcist connection but as a huge fan of the original film and book I struggle to look past it.
I've started The Punisher as well, I love the Marvel TV universe and I would prefer to watch them than the films to be honest, they don't always hit the mark (Iron Fist and Luke Cage's solo outings were pretty terrible) but they are grittier than the films. I've only seen the first 2 episodes but they look pretty solid so far.
Completely agree with The Keepers, I've got 2 episodes left and yeah, whilst its horrific and terrible etc I just don't find it all that shocking anymore.
Oh and I've got no interest what so ever in Logan Lucky

Totally agree with the 2nd season of the Exorcist. Just all filler now really.
Jessica Jones and The Punisher have been the best of the Marvel TV Shows for me. Parts of Dare Devil too. I was really disappointed with Iron Fist. My partner watches Agents of Shield but I never really got into it after the 1st season.
Just had to sit through 2 hours of Valerian, the Mrs wanted to watch it. Besson has gone downhill since The Professional and Fifth Element.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
I need to get Netflix to watch these marvel shows. More money to spend on things I do not have the time to watch.
