Re: SADDO'S FIFTH BI-ANNUAL PREDICTION CONTEST LEADERBOARD
Why are players rewarded for picking a guy to win who defeats another opponent?
I picked Nino over Salido, but if Salido fights a short notice replacement and wins, then the people who picked him get a point even though the fight against the top 5 world ranked guy was scrapped? This makes absolutely no sense.

Do you not want your point for the Duddy fight?

As the Gorrila says you benefited last week with a point from the Duddy fight. I didn't realise last week about the rule and knowing Duddy had a change of opponent I didn't bother to make a pick regarding that fight losing me a point that everybody else gained. >:mad
Luckily though I chose Salado this time around and got my point back that I should have had last week.
So justice for me at least was done :)

loose words like that could kill this contest that alot of people work hard on to enter and run... i'm not supprised cutme pulled you up on that because if you knew the work BG puts into this you would know it is impossible to cheat and you coming on this thread making off the cuff coments on rumours dosnt help one bit.
let me just clarify to you and everyone that there is no way to cheat this contest....
BoxingGorilla is keen eyed on the time stamps of all picks and will not count any picks that where edited after the fight time....
also...
IN HIS OWN PERSONAL TIME
he looks at all the fights going one and picks the fights that look the most competitive he can find, makes sure hes here to lock the thread and how he also has all the totals and new schedule done first thing sunday week after week is amazing.
I CC BoxingGorilla everytime i make my picks.... i suggest you guys do the same because without him this contest wouldn't be here ;)
Re: SADDO'S FIFTH BI-ANNUAL PREDICTION CONTEST LEADERBOARD
I'm getting to the point of desperation, down by more than 100 points, picking stoppages by the rounds which never works, I mean could Lujan not have had the fucking decency to hold off stopping Matthysee to the seventh round
And Sturm drew with a guy named Randy Griffin in Germany ???

No one should have points for the Duddy fight based on principal. Even though the case with Duddy is a bit different, because he was most likely going to win easily against either guy he fought. The purpose of this competition is picking fights correctly, and you've left several players in the dark because they picked a guy to lose to a top 5 world class contender. :o I'm sure every one would pick Salido over his new opponent. 8)

In your case everything turned out fine, but that still isn't the point. I happened to notice you put a mad smily after your sentence about losing out to this rule. ;D

lol no I agree with you really. If a fight doesn't take place then no scores should be given but this week I BENFITTED FROM IT so it was of course entirely fair!
I'd like to see a couple things changed for next time quite honestly. First off I'd like to see a more fairer balance of scoring for decision wins as currently it makes no sense to me.
If you for a KO you get 6 points, If you vote for a KO and choose a round you get 15 points if correct and still 4 points even if wrong.
If you pick a fighter to win by decision you get 6 points, if you choose either UD you get 7 points but only 2 if wrong.
This seems a little harsh to me. Surely you should still get 4 points for picking a UD and getting it wrong rather than just 2, especially when picking an opponent to win by any means will get you 3 points. ???
I'd also like to see BG actually select some British fights occasionally. He seems to love picking obscure African or S.American fights which half the time don't even take place when there's some great British fights going on at the same time, Johansson vs Gomez was a prime example this week.
But as Saddo says BG DOES do a great job of running the competition fairly and efficiently.
Knowing him I'm sure he'll be taking on board all constructive criticism and player opinion to make sure the contest continues to operate as fairly and with as much fun as possible. He's done a great job so far :)
Re: SADDO'S FIFTH BI-ANNUAL PREDICTION CONTEST LEADERBOARD
Why am I behind Tito in the rankings but have more points than him?
Re: SADDO'S FIFTH BI-ANNUAL PREDICTION CONTEST LEADERBOARD
Thanks for the kind words Saddo. You too, Bilbo.
Illuminated, you are not the first one to complain about the rules and scoring. I have received more than one PM about them since I was handed control of the comp.
I didn't write the rules I simply took over were Memphis and Fenster left off. In fact, I'm not sure if they wrote the rules or someone else did.
When I was given the gift of overseeing the comp I loved so much I was very happy. I'm sure any of you would be. I had always done well under the scoring and rules so I saw no need to change them.
I was wrong to assume that everyone would read the rules before they started to play. :)
I think the 7 6 2 rule is perfect. It's a gamble. If you are greedy and want that extra point for a UD then you deserve to get a 2 when it turns out to be a SD. ;D
The scoring that I think is a bit off is 10 points for a SD. I think it should be 15 just like a correct round KO.
I read the rules when I invited to partcipate in the comp and I played around them. I've never been a big protester really. I just go with the flow.
If Saddo wants to help change the rules next go round that is fine by me, but I don't want the soul responibilty of trying to please everyone.
I also don't want to fix it until it is broke. At some point you have to say these are the rules and just play the game.

I was unaware of that since I only joined since this competition was gearing up to begin anew. Irregardless, you're the man in charge now.

I did read the rules before I started, in fact, we had debates over many of the point values. ;)

This one isn't to me, but why? SD's in boxing today don't even have to be close fights. It could be hometown cooking or giving a gift to the name fighter when they clearly lost.

I believe the rule I'm concerned with is broken. Don't you think it's unfair people are getting points for picking a guy to beat someone he wasn't scheduled to fight when you posted this weeks fights? This type fo scoring opens the doors to all other kinds of assinine rules. In the future, for big fights, why don't we start giving points for fights players decide to add themselves? :-X

To be honest for me what it comes down to is I'm a sore loser. If something doesn't go my way I'll whine a little bit to show how hard done by I am and then I'll feel better.
If I don't win the competition at least I can content myself that but for a few stupid rules I could have done.
If you on the other hand agree to my rule changes then next season I'd have to blame my losses on other posters being able to predict the future or bribing opponents to take a fall. As I live in my own fantasy world I could certainly accept those beliefs but I'm not sure I could convince you guys hence I'll vote to keep things the way they are! :)
