Re: Man Utd letting the trophies slip
I really think going for Barry is a bit of a stretch unless you plan to move Gerrard upfront and why would you want to lose a box-to-box player like him? Barry won't be worth it on the wing. Alonso has been playing great lately, my only issue with him is that he's absent fromt he offense too much. If Gerrard and Torres are having trouble taking chances we never see Alonso step up and take over and that's what we need....a 3rd option! Also there is rumor that Alonso will be sold to Real Madrid and if that's the case and we get them to overpay for him then I wouldn't feel bad letting him go and adding on Silva or Mata or whoever.
Villa is a tricky one....when he was playing with Torres for Spain Torres never scored or even got close to scoring. Villa is a superb player but I think the matchup doesn't work, the chemistry isn't there.
As long as we add another striker, I am A-OK with this squad. I also heard more rumors about Heinze moving to Liverpool, but hell those have been going on forever
Re: Man Utd letting the trophies slip
Torres and Villa will win Spain the world cup in 2010 in South Africa.

If Liverpool rolled out the following squad, they would be mighty tough to hang with:
ST: Torres, Tevez
CAM: Gerrard
LW: Riera RW: Alonso/Silva
CDM: Mascherano
LB: Aurelio CB: Carragher, Agger/Skrtel RB: Arbeloa
GK: Reina
We are going to own next season
Tevez is either City's or United's. Enrolled his kiddo in a school in Manchester mate.
City had a very progressive meeting at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi and from that meeting we believe he is ours. Personally reckon it's up to fergie. If he wants him and keep re-assure him then he'll probably stay...altho United will have to match our £32m bid. ;D
If United spend a large chunk of their kitty on a player they already have it would be nice.
We're also talking to Gareth Barry. Not sure Liverpool want him due to Alonso's form. Reckon you've got a clear run at Silva although if i was you i'd go for Mata who has been a revelation this season. Valencia need money fast so there should be no problem.
Barry = done as reported by moi
Tevez = done, will be announced Friday barring a miraculous change of heart.
:D
Re: Man Utd letting the trophies slip
I would be surprised you get Tevez.
I work in Birmingham and Barry is getting serious flack for joining City by Villa fans. I am glad he went to City, Alonso is much better, but I cannot criticise Barry for joining City, he needs to make as much money out of his career as possible and he has served Villa for 12 years.

He was given a list of signings that we are going to make and how far down the line we are with them. Big things are going to happen this summer. He's only getting the same wage that he would have got from Villa had he signed a new contract so it's not like he's just here for the cash. He's seen the list ;)
Heard talk that Glen Johnson is coming in and Micah Richards is going out. Not sure what i think about that.
Tevez = Friday. ;)

Re: Man Utd letting the trophies slip
Tevez = July (1st week)
Ignore what i posted before with the date - that was the date he would give verbal agreement.
Anyway i had a text last night saying the above and the text also mentioned him turning down United's last offer so i have good reason to believe it's true.
We used to have a song for you
tevez tevez,
But now you've gone from red to blue
Tevez Tevez
were sorry for the hurtfull words, we bet youve shagged loads of birds,
carlos tevez, fitter than cheryl cole.

Yes feel for the guy he just wants to feel he is appreciated and I can understand him turning down the offer, as he has been there two years and the last minute they decide they want to keep him, id be the same.

thing is we just wouldnt pay that amount for him, well not until we had 80 million anyway, so that makes sense
Re: Man Utd letting the trophies slip
Bump this thread for next season (hope I do not live to regret it again)
Man Utd have £80 but done very little with it. They will not win the league title or the European Cup. With that amount of cash I would have bought Messi for £80 million.

We would never get Messi in a million years, like Fergie said no point spending the money on anyone there is only a handful of players who will improve our team and they are not available we tried getting Benzema couldnt get him, Madrid and Barca look strong Ronaldo will be a big miss and we will have to play a different system but we still have a very strong sqaud, we have a good a chacne as any other team without a doubt in the premiership.
As wages are getting higher and higher and all the top players earning 150k plus a week I think we will see the top top players choosing Spain over England if given the choice for tax purposes, In Spain they get taxed 20% where here its 50% so if your on 150k a week in Spain your going home with 35k more which is alot of money.
Re: Man Utd letting the trophies slip
Sounds like Rafa is going to give Voronin a shot at making the squad...that means we're not going to go after another striker.
