Well...... his dad's still an idiot.... but he loves his son, and Danny did a great job in there tonight. Danny also comes across as a nice guy, so good for him. Great fight!!
Yeah, still a bit of an idiot, but less of one after his son gave him some redemption, the father should be grateful to his son for that,
imagine what an ass dad would have looked like if Danny had lost.
I agree, great fight, BTW, lots of Khan haters on the forum ain't there. :-X
LOL.... yeah, he owes his son
big time. I thought the interview with Danny, his dad, and the HBO team was pretty interesting when they showed it before the fight.
Lampley and the dad looked like they were going at it for a second there.
If that would have happened Lamps would have hit the dad upside the head with his purse.

FYI, for those who need to put a smile on their face again, HBO West is replaying the fight right now. ;D
Time to pop some popcorn, and enjoy this all over again. :domo-kun:
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan Saturday night fight thread
Ahhhhhh..... watching the fight a second time was just as satisfying as the first time.
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan Saturday night fight thread
Just watched. Pretty shocking. Khan was clearly the superior athlete, etc., but dude is SO chinny and had no clue what to do when he got hurt. I'm not down on the guy like so many are -- he never turned down a fight and the guy has a ton of heart. And I *really* wanted to see Garcia KO'd after his father was such a racist POS going into this.
Despite the result, I thought Garcia still looked very mediocre (cartoonishly slow and winging with his punches) -- though credit him that he did what Peterson couldn't do. And he closed very well after getting Khan hurt -- not a lot of wasted energy, lined him up very well and got the stoppage quickly and efficiently.
And there's really no one else at 140 except Matthyse (whom I'd pick to beat Garcia but maybe who knows; Tim Bradley isn't especially good in any particular aspect of the sport either).
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Amir Khan Saturday night fight thread
I think the fight should've been stopped after the 1st Knockdown, but at the point where it was stopped I think he should've let him continue. "Are you Ok?" "I'm OK, I'm OK!"
He was in better shape after the 3rd KD than the 1st two.

You must have missed the camera shot of his eyes when he was claiming to be OK after the third one. Completely out of it. It was a good stoppage. He didn't argue about it at all afterward.

Not in the HBO interview. "It just wasn't my night."

he said he can't understand why the ref stopped it and his legs were fine
next time when the ref doesn't give him 15 second counts to recover, including a standing 8 (which if he also hadn't done) he would have been sparked out clean.
He went over last time from a glancing blow - which I assume is one of the reasons it got stopped. If he went over from a clean shot he would not have made the count.

You can all shut up about the stoppage now
Freddy Roach saying it was a good stoppage & Khan never fully recovered from the first shot.

I do agree with Big H that Bayless *could* have actually stopped it after the first knockdown but with 15 seconds left in the round -- Khan was clearly struggling just to stay standing at that point. But given the timing, I thought it was the right move to let him try and make it to the bell and see what a minute's rest would do. He actually got up reasonably quickly and well from the second knockdown and looked more lucid then than before. It wasn't until after they re-engaged that I could tell his legs were *definitely* out for good, and then after the third knockdown, his eyes were completely glazed and dilated -- he looked borderline out on his feet -- and was in danger of being seriously injured.
I thought Bayless made exactly the right calls, as usual. #1 ref in the game.
