Re: August 26, 1975 ~ 'Press Conference' ~ Ali Tries To Make Gorilla Out Of Joe Frazi
What is overlooked here is that Ali's insults were mostly childish, prank-like. Countless fighters since then, and nowadays, say much worse things. But we conveniently forget because we're too busy attacking Ali, who has long since become something of an elder statesman, loved and respected by many.
What about Margarito and Rios making fun of Roach's Parkinson's disease. I think this is ten times worse than waving a toy gorilla at Frazier. What about Tyson telling Lewis he was going to eat his children? What about everything that comes out of Broner's mouth?
I think we've lost a little perspective here.

This sums up everything you need to know about Cassius.

I'm not an Ali hater, I do see him as an atg, love watching him on YouTube. He was a master at the prehype fight but I do think his treatment of Frazier was shameful. How did he get blacks to believe Frazier was fighting for the white establishment. I've said before Bryant Gumble wrote a book titled Joe Frazier, white fighter in a black man's body. Gumble, who I really like now says he regrets doing it but says it was easy to get caught up in that at the time. Sure Tyson, Broner and others say stupid things but Ali took it where it didn't need to go.

Seems like it started with Ali, doesn't it. Another strike against the disrespectful prick.

The perspective of a hater is always going to be a little skewed with respect to reality. But hey.... you're entitled to your opinion, no matter how skewed. After all......
"Look, I am going to make this simple for you. I respect Ali for being a great fighter, because he was! I also have a deep and abiding dislike for Ali, because he was a disrespect prick, especially to other black fighters! There are many boxing fans who think Ali does not need any forgiveness and there are many who have forgiven him. I am not one of those and I never will be. I cannot make it any plainer."
You've made it simple and cannot make it any plainer..... so all of us unenlightened ones can understand.
;)

Actualyl it didn't start with Ali He openly admits he copied Gorgeous George the wrestler. He saw that everywhere George fought the place was packed. Some were there to see him win but most were there to see him lose They all bought a ticket
Everyone that really knows will tell you that bravado was all an act. Ali was really a quiet reserved almost shy sort of guy

Apparently Ali did a much better job than Gorgeous ever did.
I doubt GG remained hated decades after his career was over.

Was it all Fun 'n' Games by Muhammad Ali to promote the fight.
NO !!!
Muhammad Ali's marketing team actually had '2000' Dark-Blue T-Shirts printed up, and sold them at
$7.00 apiece in New York City that day.
