Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
first off, full credit to margarito, strong, in shape, great chin, determined.
cotto retreated to the ropes too much early on. also, i would have liked to see him go more to the body, given his opponent has a great chin and is relentless.
the first time i heard his uncle/trainer tell him to get off the ropes was in the 8th. of course, we didn't see everything that happened in the corner but from what we did see his uncle/trainer wasn't emphasizing it until the eighth.
also, his uncle has no inspirational value. it is time to dump him for a world class trainer.
we need margarito-pretty boy. if floyd doesn't come back for this then fuck him big time, even bigger than before, the great-boxer-but-total-tasteless-punk.
how about margarito pavlik; too bad pavlik is going up in weight to fight hopkins, a meaningless fight in terms of sorting out the non-has beens.
i find lampley and kellerman melodramatic. when you have a great fight, you don't need some chumps telling you every two minutes that it's a great fight. also it bothers me that they start talking about other fights, boxing in general, etc., in the middle of the action.
keep steward and bring in a boxer like RJJ or Tyson and keep lampley on a tight leash and dump all the rest.

I know Cotto will come back from this, I have no doubt about that, it was only 1 loss, so I am not disappointed in him at all. He dominated in all the punching categories, but I just wish he would have stayed away from the ropes, that is where he kept getting caught.
It was a great fight, and that's all I could hope for.
Respect Diane,He will def be back.So much Improvment on Skillset & boxing and extreme heart by Cotto.Miguel is to be respected to the fullest. It was the size strength For Tony and mentality Imo,great fight by both friend!
Respect right back, like I told you, I like both fighters, so I am happy for Margarito, and of course I'm sad for Cotto, they both fought great, and I can't take anything away from either fighter. They both deserve respect, and props for this fight.
I just hope that some on here give credit to both fighters like they should, and don't ruin a great fight by acting like an ass, and cutting down a great fighter.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
what the hell happened? i had it until the 5th/6th round n then a got distratced by some silly little girl, im abit to mashed to go looking through all the threads...did cotto stay on the ropes n get tagged?? he looked so in control while i was watching...abit dissapointed with his body attack...diane said above that tony had his arms down there but unless im just overly drunk ;D he didnt even seem to try? he seemed to throw a punch that knocked tony's head back a little n he could have got a punch to the midsection during those times but i dont know, booze is booze, ill watch again 2moro. i cant believe i missed what happened...tony is a tough sob. i dno if people are saying mayweather should fight him, but i still think the pretty boy could have seen this fight n would not stay on the ropes as long as cotto did occassionally, he wasnt there for ages but he stayed there a while winning or not winning in the early rounds. clottey beats zab n we have a rematch?? lets see if it was actually the hands that beat margo!!!...im drunk:lickish:

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
Whoa!!! I can't believe he really pulled it off! I'm a Margarito fan, and I have to admit, I was doubting him for the first half of that fight. He just looked too slow and inaccurate and Cotto was taking him to school. Tony has got to be the toughest SOB in any division though. He is frigging unstoppable. He should change his nickname from the Tornado to the brick wall. Anyways, much respect to Cotto, he put on a great show and has nothing to be ashamed of. I actually felt bad for him, seeing him beat up like that.
PS- Floyd don't want no part of either one of these guys!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
Firstly, what a great fight. In many ways it's what Hatton Mayweather could have been, but Margarito's stamina is what made the difference. He was immense. Cotto impressed me with his skills and defense, but his legs let him down late in the fight. At about round 6 I thought it would be a demolition by Cotto, but Margarito re-grouped very well and deserved the outcome.
Secondly, I can see the unwillingness of people to give Margarito respect before this fight and in many ways, rightly so. One or two blemishes on a record are understandable, but 5 defeats in 35 fights is alot and there have always been these questionmarks about his quality because of this. His defeat to Williams did nothing to dispell those doubts.
What Margarito has shown is that although careers are short, fighters go through spells of form just like any other athletes. Careers are not over because you have lost and you can still be great, the defeats may even make you better.
Alot of fighters can learn from these two guys. Both were willing to fight anyone who was infront of them and that is what this game needs more than anything, less politics, more good fights.

I think not being able to discourage Margarito discouraged him.
He couldn't get to the body, when you watch it again, you'll see that Margarito kept his arm there all night, making it difficult for him to hit to the body.
You fellars & fellerettes had to be watchin sumfin else...Cotto was going to the body & did everything right...as always...the issue is that Margarito pulled the same shots outta the bag as Miguel.
The better man just go the better of the other man tonight.
The terminator got terminated...heck of a beautiful thing that one was. No ifs, ands, or buts on that one...you gotta handle it & move on...which is exactly what I hope Cotto can do...but it's gotta be devastating as hell.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
Mullet Power ;D What are the chances of a rematch....can you see it different? Tony just looked way to strong,Cotto has improved much and has big heart but this was a bridge too far!
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
I am very surprised that Margarito actually made it. That fight had Cotto UD written all over it.
It lived up to all expectations.
Cotto had Margarito outclassed, outboxed, outpowered....and Tony broke his will. Good stuff there.
I'd rather see a rematch between them then any other fight. But Margarito does deserve a DLH payoff if he can get it.
Stubborn as a mule and granite in the chin, that is Margarito.
What a great fight

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
As far as I'm concerned, Tony only has one legitimate loss, to P Williams. He was robbed against Santos, and his first 3 losses were as a teenager when most guys are fighting in the amateurs.

we should encourage the best fighting the best, not the best fighting a has been because it will make him the most money. there is way too much whoring in boxing these days.

I can see anything close to a duplicate.. Those guys ruined each other tonight, any fight for the rest of that arenas existence will echo with the spirit of those 2 you dont fight a fight like that without leaving a bit of yourself and your life..
Love both of there guys and after my thirst for blood and violence is fullfilled, I wish those 2 gladiators well for sharing a piece of there spirit with all of us

I'd reckon Cotto will move back down to 140 nand stay there. His power can stop guys there, he will always have trouble at 147 with a power puncher like Tony.

Personally...I don't see a rematch ending any differently...it's teh volume & reach that wore Miguel down.

That would be the best move for Cotto IMO, and Tony showed why he is one of the most avoided fighters in the biz..........thank god he's not like zahir raheem lol

hmm.. See i didn't really think that Margarito used his height to his advantage.. they both had the same reach so that wasn't really an "advantage" to margarito.. it wasn't like he was keeping Cotto at the end of his jab.. Margarito did all his work on the inside and against the ropes..
The fight came down to the simple fact that Margarito is made of absolute steel, has heavy hands, and ridiculous stamina.. He simply traded with Cotto who was trying to outbox him (and did a good job at it) but eventually wore him down..

I dont know Wacks unless HBO screwed the pooch they were listed about the same... matter of fact when Margarito was at a distance Cotto was beating him, when they were fighting in the phone booth Tony was punishing him...REACH HAD ABSOLUTELY 0 FACTOR IN THIS FIGHT

Sorry about going off after the fight on the Cotto crowd. But you all have been so overbearing for so long, you had some of it coming. Saddo wink: ;)
I wish VD was here. Great night for boxing. Doesn't everyone wish this fight had the same hype ODLH/PBF did?

right.. HBO had the reach's equal.. either way if margarito even had a 50 inch advantage, he did not fight a tall man's fight.. the only punishment and effective punching margarito did was on the inside.. when margarito started to open up and throw, cotto countered upstairs and margarito would have to take a step back and was still getting hit.. only when margarito would stalk cotto down to the ropes again would he start to throw..

Cotto coming in at 5’ 7” with a 67” reach & dipping & diving while Margarito towered over him at 5’ 11” pushing in shots from a 73” maximum is an advantage.
4” makes a difference when you fight tall & your opponent constantly ducks & dives constantly & eats punches from 6” away…I hate it fellars…but Cotto’s face argues against the fact that 4” to 6” is a slam dunk…specially when the math don’t add up.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
I watched this fight, with a mix of boxing fans and others...and every time Cotto hit Margarito, when you saw the slow motion replay, that mullet swayed and twisted and flowed lika wheatfield on an breezy summers day...but yet, forward he came.
Forward he came, and again, bash, smash. bamm...and I'd watch the mexican mullet again dance with each shot that faced it's earthly reaches, and how sometimes from beneath the sinister strangeness of that black waving mullet glory, came a smile. This concerned me.
How can he take those punches? So seemingly unfazed? As forward and forward he came. I did the math, I knew my man Cotto was ahead going into the latter rounds, but still...how, why?
And then I knew...there were 2 rounds separating the difference between who won this angry dance of men bent on inflicting damage against the other. And so I watched in disbelief, in disarray...and in shock. For my man, Miguel Cotto took a knee, not once because he needed the time to amount a comeback, but twice...because he was a beaten man.
My hats off to Tony Margarito. You sir, are a warrior of the highest order.
You deserve the full respect of the boxing world for what you did tonight.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
Props to Wacko! Man you called it like you had a crystal ball. Right on the money on your analysis weeks back. How do you do it man?
Congrats Tony! Relentless. Hope Cotto comes back. He should go back to 140lbs. He gave everything and look at Margarito. I feel he could go on for another 12. Just a slight welt, that's it.
Now this is what boxing is all about. Pure exitement leading to the fight. Both men toe to toe!
What a great night for boxing!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
sorry for Cotto, but Floyd still beats Tony like he did Baldomir, no questions. Cotto thought he was mas macho, but Floyd would never make that mistake, and would win quite comfortably.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds : Cotto vs Margarito!
I haven't read any of the posts on the fight... and I don't want to. My voice is hoarse... I'm worn out... my alcohol-induced buzz went away with the finality of the Cotto loss... what can I say?
I'm proud of Cotto, win or lose. He gave away too much height... and Margarito has a scary-ass chin. How do you hurt this guy?!?!?
Immediate thoughts after the fight... forget any thoughts of a rematch. Cotto fought the best he could. He gave it his all. But Margo is a monster welterweight. It just wasn't meant to be. Congrats to all the Margarito fans. The guy is completely deserving of the praise he gets.
