Except for those Pacquiao moments... :lolhaha: Otherwise Khan did prove he can be in there with the strongest punchers in the division and not just the boxers.

He fought well for several rounds, but let's not forget how much Cortez proved that is firm in a biased way and is certainly not fair. I don't understand why Maidana lost a point and I don't know why Khan was allowed to hump Maidana's arm for a third of the fight.
Khan showed the same as he always has and continues to think he is Manny Pac. But he isn't and will be taken out.
I want a rematch and I want to see Maidana give himself a little space when trying to close the show. He will get Khan.

You know, I'm a fan of Khan but I don't think he did. His chin is better at 140 and he responds to getting hurt better, but he still got hurt almost every time Maidana landed clear and if he fights a boxer-puncher who can throw combinations he's going to be in trouble. Just my $0.02.

It looks like your pictures froze during a clinch, because I saw him go from shaky, to rattling Maidana, to shaky, and back to rattling Maidana again.
Khan makes for great viewing, he's vulnerable enough to get rattled, but Roach has got him able to overcome being rattled, and survive. Just.
yeah I thought he was going to knock Maidana out in the dying seconds. I had him winning the 11th as well, as did Harold.
Brilliant fight, you stick a chin on him and he's a rival to Manny and Floyd imo.
Unfortunately as he is, against an elite fighter he always going to be playing roulette and has a 50 percent chance of getting starched.
Would LOVE to see him and Bradley. That is a hell of a matchup imo.

I think he'd beat Bradley. I don't think he has the power to hurt Khan. That being said, I really want to see him fight the winner of Bradley - Alexander (failing a Maidana rematch).

haha I wouldn't go that far :D
It was like watching someone on ice skates for the first time those last few rounds, I am utterly amazed he managed to survive.
Please Amir, don't have a fucking rematch!
Maidana was too eager and smothered his work. I do want to see a rematch because I think Maidana will knock him out.
But fair play to Khan, he got through it. He won't next time.

What I meant was he took some clean shots and stayed on his feet/wobbley legs, if you'd have asked me would he have done that before the fight I'd have said no way!
Look it's obviously not advisable for him to stand toe to toe with someone with power but he stayed in there and he should get credit for it, even if it's just for surviving...

I don't think he could survive against a big puncher who was a slick fighter as well. I think Manny would have him out on a stretcher, which is a shame because chin aside I think he gives Manny nightmares. He's a superb fighter, speed and skills he's one of the best 10 in the world. Unfortunately his chin is like about 1403th :D
But he has so much heart, I absolutely love the kid. Done us proud tonight and have you ever seen him in a dull fight? His vulnurabilites make him super exciting.

I thought the championship rounds were all Maidana with a case for a couple of 10-8 rounds, I also thought Maidana landed the far more telling blows. In the end Khan was flurrying, but there was nothing on them and most of the punches were catching the arms.
Harold Lederman is senile, so it's always best to ignore him. He is like a real judge.

If he had a chin, he'd be on his way to becoming the best fighter on the planet. I agree with you (probably because you were agreeing with me :p), a boxer-puncher will ruin him, but it'll be great while it lasts. I think you're dead on with the Jermaine Taylor comparison (I know I've said that about 20 times now).

I think he's going to fight the winner of Bradley/Alexander next. I would rather see that because it would be to see who is the lineal champ of the division.

If it's Bradley, I think Khan wins. However, I think Alexander has the tools to stop him (Khan that is, I expect Bradley to beat ALexander).

That's true. He survived and had banked enough early on.
You do what you have to do and he got the win. Nobody is screaming robbery so that's fair enough. But I do disagree with the point deduction and do think Cortez was interfering far too much. If you can't use the elbow then you shouldn't be allowed to hold. Hatton wasn't allowed to so why was it okay for Khan?
Firm but fair, my arse! Cortez needs a good pitchforking.

Re: GR8 Britain vs The World - Khan v Maidana - Chisora v Klitschko..... etc
I agree he'd be better with a better chin. But its not all about that. He's just got too much nervous energy. He comes unglued too much. When do you ever see Floyd come unglued? He's always in control of himself. Or even Manny? I agree with Bilbo about the Jermain Taylor thing and chin doesn't have anything to do with.
He's a must watch though. Partially because he's too wild for his own good.
-
Re: GR8 Britain vs The World - Khan v Maidana - Chisora v Klitschko..... etc
What a fight. I seriously think they both brought out the best in one another and worked out a potential GFOY bout, fosho. Great heart and determination from both fighters.
Amir flaunted his chin all night, he must of been banging it against steel since his fight with Prescott. ;D

I really can't see how anybody can't be a fan. Sure he says some silly things at times, and he's a phone sex pest. But I can appreciate all of those attributes.
He was really really good tonight. How he got through that 10th round I'll never know, it was like watching a spider being washed down a sink and just bobbing over the plug hole refusing to go under, legs splaying everywhere, but he stayed up and imo even won the 11th and almost had Maidana out in the 12th in the dying seconds.
Great fight, he fought and beat a puncher. I hope he doesn't face another one for a while.

Yeah man, I agree. I felt like Cortez was bein' Khan's "Superman" when Maidana was layin' the law on Khan in round 10.

Yeah I was on my feet at that point and for the rest of the round. There's inspirational moments throughout a boxing match ( a boxing match is an inspirational moment within itself), but that was extraordinary.

I thought Maidana was out of line not touching gloves at opening. Don't know what Freddy was telling him, but I think he fukd up not going after the body.

Yeah I was really wanting him to get Ko'd brutally after that bitch move.

Re: GR8 Britain vs The World - Khan v Maidana - Chisora v Klitschko..... etc
Right? I was a tad heated at the fact that Maidana didn't touch gloves with Khan the entire fight when Khan offered that respect. I guess its just Maidana's "out to kill, no mercy" style.

It was a great round. I went mental. I stood straight up and threw the chair I was sitting on to the ground. I had been quite calm apart from shouting obscenities at Joe Cortez, but that round pushed me over the edge.
That's what boxing is all about and it was all Maidana. He finished the fight the winner in my eyes. Forget the scorecards and the sportsmanship, he made the impact with his punches. He was gradually taking away Amir Khan's heart and soul.
Immediate rematch!

That was amazing. Despite the fact that Khan's energy and confidence soared after that 1st round drop, Maidana still gradually brought Khan right back down to earth with his pressure and beastliness; that right was like a hook from hell in R10. Honestly, I'd watch two of'em fight each other
again anytime.
Best evenly matched fight between two opposing style fighters I've seen in long time.

He won the fight and for that I have to give him credit. However, it is Maidana's onslaught down the stretch that has etched itself into my mind most of all.
It was a really enjoyable fight, though Cortez once again tried his best to spoil it.

You must have really wanted Maidana to knock Khan on his ass. Had Khan taken a knee to recover he would have lost.

He's a must watch though. Partially because he's too wild for his own good.
Yeah I was on my feet at that point and for the rest of the round. There's inspirational moments throughout a boxing match ( a boxing match
is an inspirational moment within itself), but that was extraordinary.
No credit at all for Amir then. ;D

If I remember correctly, Miles is still butt hurt about Khan beating up on his hero Barerra. Had Khan finished the fight in the 2nd, he would have said Cortez told Khan to punch him in the ribs...just ignore the child.
Great fight though...Khan proved alot...defence needs to improve but definetely can take a punch. I think he's ready for the winner of Bradley/Alexander. As for as being ready to fight Mayweather/Pacman...no chance in hell!

No, I was not happy about the Barrera fight and believe that a grave misjustice was carried out. However, I have eased up on Khan somewhat in the past year, but still want to see him beat. Anyway, your point about the second round makes no sense whatsoever. :p

The Super 7 card was pretty gash all in all wasn't it.
Even big Larry only got highlights!

Credit to Khan, he took on a big puncher and got through it. I'm not sold on his defensive improvements, it was good for the most part but it seem to go out the window when he got hurt and he just backed up. I didn't understand why, after hurting Maidana with the body shot in the first he only went back to the body sporadically during the rest of the fight. If he'd had more of an aggressive body attack he could have ended that quickly. I still think he comes unstuck against Bradley or Alexander, but he deserves huge credit for taking on a heavy handed, top fighter at 140 and beating him, he was quite accurate with his combinations for the most part and fully deserved the win

I agree with the lack of a body attack, especially with the look on the face of Maidana after he went down, I thought he wasn't going to get back up. Khan did get success when he went to the body, just didn't go there often enough.
As for his defence, I think it has improved, but it can't completely cover the frailness of his chin, and when he was clipped he panicked. I think the improvements mean he now has a chance of surviving big shots that would have finished him 2 years ago, and this will make him a big draw for the fans, as he is always going to be vulnerable to the one big shot, despite him being so fast and accurate on the attack.
Look forward to his next fight.

I think his defence has improved to an extent, I'm just not sold on it completely yet. At times his head movement was good but when he got caught it seemed to go out the window and he'd back straight up. He can be fun to watch and I'm looking forward to seeing him in a unification fight next year.
He's got the skills to be the best at his weight, I'm just not sure if he's going to be able to stand up to the better technical boxer's out there as he can be very hittable. That may be down to a shaky defence or just a lack of concentration at certain points throughout a fight, but if he irons that out he can definitely go onto to big things. It'll be interesting to see how he does either way

Re: GR8 Britain vs The World - Khan v Maidana - Chisora v Klitschko..... etc
How the fuck did Khan stay up from those bombs? He must have taken half a dozen full blooded clumps on the chin.
Khan as fast as ever, STILL dont like the way he falls in, his attacks are too premeditated at times, he doesnt need to do that, he's quick enough to pick his punches better.
I didnt think Maidana was that dirty, yeah a little bit at times, the elbow was a cheap shot ;D
I think if they fight again Khan sorts him out good and proper, no need to stand and fight him, could have won that far easier.
Still champion, fought a puncher and didnt get sparked, exciting fight, good night all around I reckon.
