How are you holding up bud? Woke up this morning and saw it had kicked up to Cat 1 but thankfully took that northern route. Imagine powers out large scale at least Eastern PR, stay safe give us a shout when it settles.

Doing OK. :)
Yep. No power, and no telling for how long. Tired of this lousy infrastructure. Of course, the winds were higher than expected. Seemed like a Cat 1 even as it was brushing by us. I live on the northeastern point of the island. The best beaches, but a sweet spot for these damn systems.
At least it seems to be headed toward the middle of the Atlantic, so save for maybe Bermuda, it shouldn't hit anyone else.
Cringing because it's only August, and the really destructive hurricanes have always hit us in September.

Stay safe Tito. The infrastructure has never fully recovered. Sounds familiar locally. On a sidenote we actually lost power twice in the last week because of "a mylar balloon hits power line" incident. Actual small birthday or funeral balloons that were released. We're all fecked ;D. I think we're good for another 2 weeks storm wise and hopefully you guys dry out quick. Hurricane season can make you feel like you're living in bi weekly segments just waiting for the next shoe to drop. But we carry on. Best to the family bud.

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
Ugly girl on my doorstep will be knocking in the morning. It figures that the name of my ex is Francin...close enough ;D. Odd turn up this hurricane. Literally just popped up by mee-he-co but should stay a 1 or 2 :-X. Should go by pretty quick.

Hopefully it won't strengthen much and go by quickly. It's what you hope for with a hurricane. Stay safe, and hopefully not much damage over your way. September is sure living up to its reputation. :(

Francine is an ugly twat and a cheater! But "Francine" is expected to landfall 5-6 pm locally ;D. I actually watched three girls fight over a case of Vienna sausages tonight in Winn Dixie btw. Grocery shopping pre hurricane really says a lot about us.

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
Well, that was fun. Pretty interesting she turned into a Cat 2 not prior to landfall but afterwards :-X. We're basically wetlands with 1001 water waters close so it makes sense. Rain was a mf bookoo flooding even on the Northshore. But winds didn't get bad until the dry backside. Just a very weird chopped up storm as it played out. Wiped out the palms out front and took a small flat bed of tiles off the roof but staying behind allowed us to actually bail the water that made it inside ;D. Neighbor gardens were wiped over with wind but on the plus side now I have enough cilantro and roma tomatoes for months :-X.

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
Damn, @Spicoli ... first Francine and now Helene. These women storms are doing a number on your area.
Stay safe, bro. Looks like Helene is gathering a head of steam. These Gulf storms are a bitch, because you know they're going to hit somebody.

Until today I feel we're not taking this one on the chin. It rolled into the Gulf like a boss and looks like it will make a B line for the Florida panhandle. Unfortunately as a 4 :-X and it's moving west over more populated areas. Yeh it's freaky now. This one and Francine that hit New Orleans area were fast formers. You get used to seeing them form in the Atlantic for the most part and have literal week(s) as they form and find direction. Brother I just want to get to late October, and we'll be all done with this annual BS. That U Haul truck out of here looks more tempting each year. Stay safe in the PR.

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
Hurricane season refuses to go away.
It's not enough that the SE U.S. has gotten pounded unmercifully by at least two different hurricanes. Or that the Caribbean has been churning up storms left and right. Now they're talking about possibly another named storm brewing in the Caribbean. HELLO! We're in November already. Memo to the weather: Please close up shop for this year, and give us a break until the next hurricane season.

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
Wow, I also think the floods in Spain deserve a mention. The videos I've seen from Valencia are unreal. :o Cars floating down the street like so many toy cars, and getting piled up in huge bunches. I think around 50-some deaths also.
Mother Nature seems to be pissed.

Valencia certainly have had it hard. The floods have been horrific and they are prone to heatwaves.

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
Yep saw that this morning. Talking late next week and more “wait and see” and here we are in November ffs. I’m tired man. Just done with miserable weather always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Not to mention we’re still in the high 80’s approaching Holidays. Need these cold front to step it up and help the sheer to tear up anything trying to form. So, we wait yet again. I just want some breezy nights and a crackling pit fire right now. Man don’t ask for much. But as with Spain it can def be so much worse. It can always always be worse weather wise. Stay safe. Head on a swivel.

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
I almost wish we DID have a giant joystick somewhere with which we could steer hurricanes into the middle of the Atlantic and cackle away as they withered away in the frigid waters.
-
Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
There has to be some twisted irony that a hurricane now entering the Gulf setting to disrupt the Holiday time of the year is named after your boss ;D:p

Rafael? My brother-in-law, maybe... but not our boss. That would be Pedro, at least until later tonight, when unfortunately it'll be Jennifer.
Jennifer hasn't been used in a while, so who knows, might be resurrected as a future storm name. ;D

Jennifer :-X:o. Watch out now. I had an ex named Jennifer who once on a rainy 1am night under a full moon tried to stab me with a sharpened butterknife. There may or may not have been blotter involved.
This current hurricane is clearly drunk. From a 1 to 3 and set to just meander.

Never been partial to Jennifers not named Lopez or Garner. ;D ;D
Your ex sounds like a certifiable psycho. :o
Yeah... Rafael is clearly drunk. ;D First of all... did he NOT get the memo that it's November?? Damn things are supposed to go into hibernation till next June or something.
Once they go into the Gulf it turns into a meenie-miney-mo situation. Damn... I hope it just peters out in mid-Gulf.

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
10+ inches snow in southern Louisiana last 24 hours :cwm13:. Yeh, this is normal. Haven't seen snow like this in literally 40 years...in Richmond...where it does snow ;D. I won't call it 'nasty' but quite different. Forgot what it was like to be snowed in but hell, that's one way to get 3 days off :-X. The thaw is always the worst part as roads turn into a hocky ring. Unreal but there's a euphoria to standing in a snowstorm freezing your arse off.

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
It was snowing in Florida and Texas so the extreme weather is getting worse and more often. That snow storm has caused Storm Eowyn over here with 80mph winds.

Climate change means more extreme weather which can be heatwaves, hurricanes and severe cold spells.

Climate change is the correct term that was previously used for global warning because it is more accurate and stop any confusion.

so the original term global warming wasn't correct? what was the claim of global warming? is the claim of global warming not a thing anymore?

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
Rather than talk about "claims" or something being a "thing", I'll just put this here.
https://i.imgflip.com/9iappc.jpg
Not telling you to believe it. Not telling you how to interpret it. Not even telling you to look at it.
It's just there, and you can draw your own conclusions.
-
Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
The term climate change encompasses global warming. Global warming is one of the symptoms of climate change. We have always had climate change ( Ice ages etc) but generally when people refer to global warming they are talking about the impact of man in the heating of the earths surface temperature. Remember it is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. It really is not that hard to grasp.

nah let's stick with claims, this is from chatgpt:

does your little chart have the temperature for when spicoli's area had snow? so back to my original statement "with things heating up it makes it cold enough to snow" if earth's temperature is increasing & the planet is warming how does it make it cold enough to snow in a place spicoli says he hasn't seen snow in for forty years? remember the claim is earth's (the whole thing) temperature is increasing & the planet (the whole thing) is warming. increasing temperature & warming don't equal snow

yes the climate does change

i'm happy to entertain bullshit but i don't have to accept it. if it's really not that hard to grasp can you show me the process you used or somewhere i can go to test, so i can verify for myself, to create snow by increasing the temperature & warming the area. i'll wait

LMFAO at "your little chart." :LOLATYOU:
Typical butthurt response when presented with data and facts.

Also... it's not "my little chart" (LMFAO). :LOLATYOU:
It's actually NASA, NOAA... and a handful of other insignificant agencies' "little chart."
Damn, you're easy to get to. :D

you may not have created the chart but you presented it here hence your. so again does your little chart have the temperature for when spicoli's area had snow? & can you show the temperature where spicoli is on the days before it started snowing & show an increase in temperature & warming when snowing began? i'll wait
typical of you to avoid requests to prove your belief. you are the last person who should be talking about facts as you make your facts own up
show me the process you used or somewhere i can go to test, so i can verify for myself, to create snow by increasing the temperature & warming the area. waiting... you & i both know you can't but you'll stamp your feet & have a little tantrum for a few posts, none of which will provide any proof as usual before skulking away with your tail between your legs as you always do, failing to provide any proof for your belief

Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
If you really believe that the fact that it snowed in Spicoli's neighborhood, thus proving that global warming doesn't exist.... I'm sorry but you're more of a moron than I thought.

you're the one with a belief. still waiting for you to show me the process you used or somewhere i can go to test, so i can verify for myself, to create snow when the temperature is increasing & warming. resorting to personal attacks shows you've got nothing to prove your belief

Eh got things a little mixed up there bud, I wasn't referring to current location when I said it's been 40 years since seeing snow like this.
" ...Yeh, this is normal. Haven't seen snow like this in literally 40 years...in Richmond..." And the this is normal part was sarcasm. As in this, the amount, has not happened and is not normal.
I don't have any charts or graphs but since I made the cast, I can say from firsthand experience in actually living here...the extremes are tying or breaking records. In 1895 there was 8 inches I believe. Two weeks ago we had 10.5. In July of 2023 we hit a record high temp of 105 degrees. The highest on record. There was a "feels like" temp of 115. Highest on record. 2024 here is officially recorded as the hottest summer on record with multiple 100 degree days in a row. Over the last couple of years there have been multiple days where dropping or increasing by 30-40 degrees in a single day or two have happened often. Again, the ying and yang of extreme changes are a real thing. And as talked about during hurricane seasons last year meteorologists have never witnessed that rapid intensification of a TS to a Cat3-4 in literally 24 hrs in the Gulf nor the erratic 90' change of course.
-
Re: The Nasty Weather Thread
i agree the ying and yang of extreme changes is happening. the causes of these changes is up for discussion. these highs & lows & changes have been around as long as we've cared to take note
