One of those where you shout at the screen and the kind of thing that could happen. Shocking but very well made

good film that, I've not seen it for ages.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Haven't seen any good movies lately, but I'm currently on a series kick. Watching Narcos now, which I find fascinating.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Finally watched Logan, it is the best film of that particular series.
No way is it a 15, far too much violence and bad language but action packed with a good final storyline. If Deadpool was 18 then this should have been as well.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched Bad Moms 2 last night with the missus, not as funny as the first. My partner really liked it tho.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was ok, it was tongue in cheek half serious action film. Other than hearing squeaky voice of Beckham the rest of the cast were good.

The movie was ok, the group of kids harass that couple right?
If you want shocking watch one of the 'I spit on your grave' films. The remake was pretty brutal, the sequel was not bad either.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched CHiPS law and disorder that film was hilarious!!!!

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Maybe it is all the feminist threads around here but watched The Boss which is a chick flick and was pretty funny.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
The Founder, Keaton is great is roles like that. Watched Ravenous or 'Les affames'. Another dark survival tale shown with cast of unknowns all in sub titles. Because that's what you do at 1 am ;D.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
watched Tom Cruise Mummy abd it was a mix of mission impossible and the last series of Mummy films which were comedy. Not very good, I do not think they will make a second film.

Here's the list of the dark universe monsters
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_monsters
And schedule
http://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/u...movie-schedule
And they have completely and totally fucked it all up you could tell from the start....Benicio Del Toro's 'Wolfman' sucked, 'Dracula Untold' fucking blew, what did you expect from Tom Cruise in 'The Mummy'?
The idea was to tie together all of these movie monsters into one universe. In order to do that properly you need a cohesive story line which connects them all. Maybe that involves Edgar Allen Poe and Van Helsing as the protagonists and maybe Dr. Jekyll as well, but what it shouldn't involve is making that entire universe like the Marvel or DC universes where everything is wide out in the open, these are horror movies, they need scares, they need secrecy, they need darkness to them....there's no horror in the dark universe characters anymore, some director somewhere needs to find what can make these monsters relateable yet scary again because shit nobody has been scared of any of these monsters for quite a while and giving them super powers just makes them gay not scary.

I agree good horror and monster movies are few and far between. Anabelle and the conjuring were good but so many Netflix horror I
Watch for fifteen to twenty minutes and shut them off.

My all-time favorite horror movies (movies that legit scared/disturbed me):
1. Jaws
2. The Exorcist
3. Psycho
4. The Shining
5. Silence of The Lambs
6. Audition
7. Friday The 13th
8. Freaks
9. Alien
10. The Ring
Not a lot of literal "monsters" in great horror movies....maybe at times you can get one or two, but it's the suspense that gets the viewer. You don't see the shark in Jaws at all, you don't see the Xenomorph in Alien too much, you don't see the crazy side of Norman Bates in Psycho until just the end, you don't get the craziness of Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs but for a few scenes, nobody knows what the fuck is happening in Friday the 13th until the end and then the very end everything really is all "What the fuck?"
With all of the psychology behind Dracula or Frankenstein or The Mummy Hollywood can't come up with winning HORROR movie ideas for these characters? I mean really it's like they have no imagination or no concept of storytelling without crazy ass special effects.

Ah we see the shark in jaws a number of times. I prefer a good psych horror than torture porn but saw and some others of the genre were done well. I brought up the monster thing only cause you did in a previous post. Aliens is an example where the monster is quite frightening. The shining is amongst my favorites. Needful things was another movie based on a king book which was quite good. Did you see Gerald's game on Netflix? No where near as good as the book but it was decent. The crazies was good but I am partial to zombie movies and movies like The Road with viggo mortenstein which I highly recommend. In movies like inglorious bastards the Nazis could be considered the monsters, even though a certain someone calls me a nazi here on occasion.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
You prefer psychological horror, I think most people do.....look at Exorcist and Psycho and The Shining....all of those are psychological horror. They build up and build up and build up, The Ring was good at that. Friday The 13th did the torture porn/slasher kind of effects, but again it was all about the build up.
Now imagine Dracula where it was all about the build up. Closest we've had to that is Francis Ford Coppala's 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' which was pretty solid as a movie but still could have been scarier. If Dracula was done maybe more the way 'Devil's Advocate' was done then that's a little better.
Suspension of disbelief is the big issue with horror movies, you've got to play within the rules of life as we know it for the majority of the time and then slip in 1 or two "How the fuck did that happen" moments or "what are we dealing with" kind of emotions, like in 'Independence Day' when the first contact is made with the alien ships.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Yes Coppola s dracula was very good. Gary oldman was excellent. I think you said you didn't like the babbadook but it is another example of not really seeing the bad guy but for glimpses. I've been home for a couple days and I watched the descent for the second time. It's not really a watch twice movie but it was a decent topical typical scary movie, plus I like spelunking

The Babadook was ham handed....it was just forced all the way. It was eye rape......everything is crooked, size is distorted, color is off, everything sensory wise is off enough to make you uncomfortable, but I think what was initially a good idea ended up being so over done that you couldn't help but notice how askew everything was. In The Shining it's subtle and subtle things draw you in and when you're drawn in you get the shit scared out of you when naked bathtub lady turns into a decaying mess.
-
Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
'Bone Tomahawk' was a pretty solid flick and could be considered horror.
Now for horror-comedy it's got to be 'Tucker & Dale vs Evil' and 'Cabin In The Woods' along with Netflix's 'The Babysitter'....all are very funny, but also they have their jump scare moments.
-

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Invite to go catch Black Panther after work but not a character I'm familiar with really. Promos seem as much artsy movie as they do the Marvel universe. Think I've been relying on Netflix for movies to much and missing some real top current releases.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Next Netflix movie up for me is probably going to be this....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBLS_OM6Puk
Have to hand it to Netflix they do some crazy shit when it comes to documentaries and these documentaries like 'Holy Hell' and 'Going Clear' and 'The Source Family' and any number of things I've watched on Jonestown or Waco and David Koresh, I find them very interesting. It's always intriguing when people start peeling away from cults and some people stay til the bitter end.

What's that about then, I'm in the Boozer at the minute so I can't watch the trailer.
Netflix docs are brilliant, I did get a bit bored of the one about the priests fucking the kids though

Rajneeshpuram, Oregon - an intentional community in Wasco County, Oregon, briefly incorporated as a city in the 1980s, which was populated with followers of the spiritual teacher Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, later known as Osho.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajneeshpuram
Anywho this Indian mystic guru got a large following to his style of teaching. The followers ended up taking over/buying a large bit of land and creating the Rajneeshpuram community. The neighbors didn't like these moonbats and so they wanted them and their cult stopped. Well the cult up and decided to attempt to poison the townspeople and they armed themselves to the teeth and prepared for battle. And I guess I'll leave the rest for the documentary.
'The Source Family' was kind of similar in the build up although the never threatened to kill anyone as their leader Father Yod ended up dying from a hang gliding accident so they kind of all drifted apart.
'Holy Hell' was more of the mystic guru being a sex crazed ponzi scheme operator but that was still fascinating to watch because 'Michel' the leader of the Buddhafield cult was SUCH a goldbricking phony. He looked KIND of Indian and spoke KIND of with an Indian accent but as time went on and he kept getting plastic surgeries he looked more Filipino and then spoke kind of with that accent and by the end of the movie he's speaking in more of a Hispanic accent...it's unbelievable that people still follow that dude but hey whatever floats your boat.

Did you watch Waco @El Kabong it was alright, really enjoyed the acting.
I watched The Last Jedi awhile back, I must say I thought it was mud.
Justice League, The Flash was brilliant. Not a bad watch I guess.
Re-watched A scanner Darkly, still enjoy it.
Also been on a western binge, watch the 3 Eastwood movies, The good the bad & the ugly, Fistful and a Few Dollars more. The other 2 don't stand up to The Good The Bad and The Ugly, I'm tempted to say that is my fav western ever (maybe Young Guns :-

Yep enjoy Tombstone, unforgiven didn't do it for me and has nothing on Good, Bad, Ugly.
Funny you guys mention Deadwood, I've just finished season 1 and started season 2, re-watching it all again. Ian McShane is an awesome actor.

The CGI in the Transformers movies throws me off so much....it's not that it's fake as hell (which it is) it's that I cannot see what the fuck is actually going on, I can't see the detail in the CGI of whatever Decepticon or Autobot or what have you is on the screen unless it's a non-action scene.
Michael Bay has made some absolute crap films....one of my least favorite directors.
