Watched War for the planet of the apes and it was very good.
I like the original Planet of the apes films.
The first one maybe but it got a little absurd near the end of the 1970's franchise.
Oh man, you have to watch all 5. The whole story plays out and ties together.
Remind me again. I know the Heston film, remember a second lot landing and a woman with big jugs.
I also remeber the apes went back into the 1970's and were put on trial.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Just done A Quiet Place.
Really liked it. Won’t be for everyone

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched 5 part documentary Unmasking a killer about the golden state killer. I remember reading about him years ago and watching a documentary. This guy is an evil b'stard. He's finally been caught, he rapped at least 51 woman in the 70's and murdered 12 people in the 80's. he's scary as shit. well worth a watch

Is this the same guy that is in the serial killer thread that we have and was a former police officer?

These new planet of the ape films kick ass. I also like the older ones but a couple were really corny. I’m off today so I’m going to watch “in the heart of the sea” which is apparently based on a true story and Melville used the story when he wrote moby dick. I saw it a while ago but they had it for sale at wal-mart for a couple bucks. I really like those old seafarers type movies. That had to be a tough life living on those boats, fighting the elements and what not. We have a few ships docked not far from me that are replicas of those old whaling ships. You can go out on them and work as a crew hand and you gotta hustle, after a while I was like damn I paid to do all this work, they even yell at u like the old timers. Anyway as I recall it wasn’t a great movie but it’s portrayal of the eras sea ways is quite interesting

Yes it was for 18 years and older, the new one is for 16 so will not have as much rude content.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
During the past couple of weeks I've watched:
Acts of Violence (2018 ) 9/10
Underrated action movie, similar to the original Taken.
The Best Offer (2013) 8/10
Superb acting and cinematography. Not for everyone - virtually no violence and no one was killed - but I enjoyed it.
The Egyptian (1954) 8/10
Surprisingly deep and thought-provoking. Very good cinematography and costume design.
Retribution (2016) 7/10
Revenge action movie, decent acting and nice musical theme.
Downrange (2017) 2/10
One of the worst ever. Shallow, poorly-written, many murders without motive. It is listed as a thriller, but it's really a horror movie.

Watched the Kings speech, good movie, really makes me like that particular k-k-k-king

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Watched The last king of Scotland and even developed Forest Whitaker eye :cwm13:. Whitaker doesn't get the cred he deserves. Caught half of Taps again. The Mist on Netflix isn't bad 5 episodes in.

Talking of terrible ideas for a film that surprise you have you ever seen Flash of Genius ? It's about the guy who invented the intermittent windscreen wiper !! Mate of mine told me to watch as it was good - I didn't for about a year as it sounded ridiculous.

The revenant was good, that’s with Leonardo right? Jeremiah Johnson is a great movie. Redford did an excellent job on that. So both are excellent movies but I agree Jeremiah Johnson is superior

I didn't much care for it to be honest. I want to see 'Hostiles' though, still haven't seen that one. I enjoy it when directors make the surrounding environment part of the film, like a character in itself. Part of 'Last of the Mohicans' was filmed near where I live and I think that did a good job of it. The Revenant just meh, I didn't much care for it...I think it was the lack of build up to what happened prior to Leo getting dumped in the woods and left for dead and too much of him crawling around injured.
'There Will Be Blood' did an awesome job of using the environment...when Daniel Day Lewis is crawling to civilization with his broken leg, the vastness of the desert was delivered through the lens of the camera.

There will be blood holy cow what a good movie. When Daniel Day was in the church confessing damn I don’t know how he can act like that. The dude is amazing. He drove his motorcycle to a little town near me where Lincoln was playing. It was one of those small town hall theatres, he pulled up on his motorcycle and just hung out with people and let them ask questions about the movie. I couldn’t go but my buddy went to talk to him and he said Dan pulled up a a smokin bike with no entourage. It’s a nice area the bikers around here cruise a lot, very country with long winding roads. When he took of they cruised for a bit the he hopped on the highway. They said he was a really decent dude, has to be one of the top actors of our time.
Anyway, I liked the cinematography of the revenant, I thought it was a good film, not on the top of my list but very good
Daniel saying bastard in a basket was great in there will be blood as well

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
2010 (1984) 8/10
Underrated classic. I had watched this one many years ago, I enjoyed it then and now. Very good cast with people like Helen Mirren in her prime. The events are not scientifically possible according to physics, but that's okay since it's just a movie.
Screwed (2011) 7/10
Not bad, based on an autobiography. Very realistic.
After.Life (2009) 5/10
Not a good movie, the story made no sense. But I enjoyed seeing Christina Ricci completely naked. She didn't seem to mind being nude in front of Liam Neeson.

'2010: The Year We Make Contact ' is top class....I do wish Kubrick would have been able to do it, but it's still a decent film, enjoyable.

Peter Hyams did an excellent job on 2010.
Kubrick gets a lot of attention, but he's actually very overrated. People always say "Kubrick's 2001" or "Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket" or "Kubrick's The Shining", but in fact they were all taken from books by other people (Arthur C Clarke, Gustav Hasford, and Stephen King). King was angry at the changes Kubrick made to his story. Hasford received little money from the lucrative movie, and died in poverty a few years later.
Spartacus was from a book written by Howard Fast, and the screenplay was by Dalton Trumbo. Edward Lewis and Kirk Douglas decided on everything in the movie. It was to be directed by someone else, Anthony Mann, but Douglas fired Mann at the end of the first week of shooting, in which the opening sequence in the quarry had been filmed, then Kubrick was brought in. Douglas and Lewis found Kubrick's eagerness to take credit for Trumbo's work revolting.

I disagree, Kubrick was a brilliant director....do the best of the best get overrated, maybe by some.
Well 'Kubrick's The Shining' is said because there is another version of 'The Shining' which was a made for tv movie that was as true to the book as it could get and it absolutely sucked balls. In this case it's Stephen King who is the overrated one in my opinion.
Dalton Trumbo was a communist shill

Perhaps, but he did a nice job on the screenplay for Spartacus.
Roman Polanski was a despicable molester of underage girls, but was was a technically a brilliant director (better than overrated Kubrick, in my opinion).
I'm not a Stephen King fan, but to be fair the TV version of The Shining had a low budget compared to the Kubrick-directed version.

He may be a piece of sh1t, but his MacBeth (1971) is the best version of that Shakespeare play ever made.
He's a very flawed man, but he has an undeniable talent for directing movies.

Re: last movie you watched (Flag Up SPOILERS)
Chinatown was good, Rosemary's baby is overrated, what else does he have? The Ninth Gate? The Pianist? YAWN.....I've never been a fan of Polanski.
I hat eto admit that I do enjoy 'Midnight In Paris' which is a Woody Allen film, and Woody Allen is a shitshow of a person.

He seemed to be exposing his own very rich and powerful group in Eyes Wide Shut. It was his best movie, but some say he paid for it with his life.

Finally watched Dunkirk and actually liked it a lot. Seemed to get a lot of stick from critics and can see that too. Loved the way it tied pilots, civilians and evacuating soldiers points of views together. Depressing as hell in spots though but can only imagine 100 worse as it unfolded.

I have the Hulu for free on my phone. This is my first experience with it. I watched I, Tanya last night, not all in one sitting, but it was decently acted and somewhat interesting. Hulu has some interesting movies. I wouldn’t say rush to see I, Tanya but if you have some time to kill it will keep your interest

Dunkirk should have won the Oscar for Best Picture. Most critics liked it, although a few critics of the ultra PC crowd were negative.

Dunkirk was filmed well but I found it lacking. I thought it was a bit underdone for the significance of the event. I would have liked them to get into why the Nazis didn’t utilize the situation to attack and how they ended up in the situation to begin with. Seems like it could have been so much better. Those poor SOB’s stuck on that beach must have been terrified, what a clusterfuck that was. World war 2 was horrible but there are so many interesting stories that came out of it.
