Was Barerra found out last night?

Now i have your attention, Barrera wins a very close fight over a 25-1 natural featherweight and gets superlatives thrown at him.....some posters claiming this fight completes his legacy. Majority of posters go on 2 congratulate him for being in such a great fight. Now this is all good but then.....

You come to Ricky hatton who last week won a very close but unanimous decision over a 26-1 fighter who also happened to be a world champion, as wel as bein a naturally heavier fighter.

Strange how hatton gets labelled 'over rated' whereas the worst Barrera gets is 'exciting'

Also seems strange how a lot of u guys congratulate juarez on being a great fighter and 'the future' of the super featherweight division.

How come there isn't such plaudits for collazo? I think i have only seen Wacko give collazo the deserved credit.

IMHO both fights were very exciting and rather than bag on any of the fighters, we should congratulate and thank all 4 fighters for providin very good entertainment and value for money. At the end of the day any one of these fighters has more courage then the whole of this forum combined. They are the guys layin it all on the line....we are jus the guys sittin comfortably behind our keyboards, picking reasons to fault them.

I'll tell you why... People are still realling over Jeff Lacy and Hatton being a tough fight gives those people an chance to try and get Calzaghe fans (who they assume are also Hatton fans) 'back for it' :P

barrera has done this his whole career and now is on the slide after 60 plus fights and many ring wars and was in with a fighter who was stronger and more powerful than him who had him in trouble but barrera didn't take a step back but fought fire with fire, he readjusted a lot in the fight which showed his versatility

You make some compelling points. Yes, Collazo deserves the accolades, same as Juarez. Yes, they were both action-packed, exciting fights, where both Hatton and Barrera in their respective fights put it all on the line. Yes, people ragging on Hatton as overrated might be accused of being a little unfair.

But that's as far as it goes. IMO, Hatton does not yet have the resume of a Barrera. Barrera has 60+ victories over some very tough competition. And many of them outside the friendly confines of his own hometown. It can be argued that Hatton's first victory over a world-reknown fighter was against Tszyu. It can also be argued that Hatton enjoyed a clear-cut hometown advantage, with a referee the likes of which are rarely seen on this side of the world. I'm not saying he was bad, but he'd never get too many big fights here.

That victory over Tzsyu has, again... IMO, unjustifiably propelled Hatton into many people's p4p lists. How about scores of other fighters? Who have meticulously carved out records over much more impressive opponents?

Hey, I'm just as guilty of wanting Miguel Cotto to hurry up and fill the void left by the departure of Tito. And in doing so, I'm probably guilty of piling too much glory, too soon, on a fighter that still has to prove himself as one of the all-time greats. So I can understand. Boxing brings out the nationalistic pride in people like few other sporting events can.

In short, being objective in boxing is VERY difficult to do.

I'm not disputing the fact that barrera's resume is far better than Hatton's....and yes the Tszyu fight maybe proprelled him into the limelight a little faster then maybe even hatton would have hoped. Barrera is an all time great....but what happened last night IMO is not a million miles away from what happened last weekend with hatton and collazo. My point is this: People need 2 see Hatton for what he is, which is a gutsy determined warrior. The guy has so much heart which is backed up with good skill, good speed and excellent body attacks (when he uses them). He's never going to severly outbox any world class fighter like mayweather can do. I just feel that rather then look for reasons to slate him, he should just be appreciated for what he is. I suppose we can relate bcos the same people that bag hatton after every mistake also bag cotto everytime he is in an exciting fight. Without these guys boxin would become boring.

Barrera and Hatton both won on points against guys that could have won if they put more effort in

Because Juarez didn't win that fight. And Hatton didn't.

Because Barerra was the champion. And Hatton wasn't.

And please, if you want to try to convince me that Juarez won that fight 7-5 or 8-4 like Collazo did to Ricky you are sadly mistaken ;)

the differnce with juarez was everybody knew that he was a very good fighter and nobody really knew collazo and i feel that barrea has still got it in him to be a world champion for a long time

Collazo did win that fight...he mighta lost his belt & gained & L on his record...but he won that fight...where is Ricky with the rematch?

There won't be a rematch because Hatton will probably drop to 140 for Witter or some other who knows who.

No, I was trying to give examples of good fighters, who lost, but may of felt hard done by, and were never the same again in the ring (I am taking an assumption about Strum, he may very well prove me wrong). Because I suspect sadly for Collazo he may never quite be as good as he was against Hatton, again...

Sorry, I missed it mate, did Barrera declare today that he was abandoning his jr. lightweight campaign to go back down to feather?

And if Ricky had been fighting for 16 years and had been steadily on everyone's p4p and elite lists for close to 10 of those years, constantly proving himself against the best, and if then Collazo was a well-respected and YOUNGER (six years) fighter on the rise, i think he'd get labeled as "being on the way to the end of a great career/ starting to show some cracks from age, etc." rather than "overrated/ maybe not that great in the first place." It's a bad analogy.
