ITV and DogHouseBoxing.
Re: Punch stats for Tarver vs Hopkins - illustrates two very old men....
I wonder do they actually count those pawing jabs that aren't intended to land. If you subtract those the numbers would be terrible ..
Re: Punch stats for Tarver vs Hopkins - illustrates two very old men....
is total punches, absolute totals, or total minus power punches
Re: Punch stats for Tarver vs Hopkins - illustrates two very old men....
I don't get the obsession with Bernard having to throw loads of punches... Its Joe's style to come forwards and throw loads of fast solid shots... he's a boer puncher...
Styles. Fights.

Mate how can you compare the two fighters?? Its like chalk and cheese there totally differnet styles.
Re: Punch stats for Tarver vs Hopkins - illustrates two very old men....
well it dosen't help the fact that Tarver and Hopkins are both natural counterpunchers

Agree, but still quite remarkable that Hopkins picking his shots still has such a low rate of landed hits. It is like two hits in the air and one landed...Calzaghe lands like two out of three and still hits about four times as much as Hopkins. If you have a low output of punches and picks your punces then you rate of hits should also be higher than a fighter who has high output of punches.
Last night was an air hitting festival.

Yes, but does a landed punch count more on the scorecards from a counterpuncher than from a come forward fighter?....

:coolclick: As stated above they are both counter punchers, so this was expected as they both wait for their opponent to miss so they can... well... how can i say this ... counter?! Still i saw a beautiful technically fought fight by hopkins he look anything but old.
Re: Punch stats for Tarver vs Hopkins - illustrates two very old men....
I think Hopkins would hand it to Calzaghe like a red headed step child.

You can't compare this fight to Lacy vs. Calzaghe... both of these guys have good defense, and don't throw all that many punches... Look at Roy Jones Jr., Young Ali, Floyd Mayweather Jr. ... its just something you see from the more skilled fighters that they don't need to throw as many punches because they make their punches count. BTW they are far older than they used to be.

Just illustrates two counter punchers. Calzaghe could land a zillion punches on Lacy, but that doesn't mean he would beat Hopkins or Tarver. He probably wouldn't.
