Gatti does not belong in the Hall of Fame!!!
I'm getting so tired of people mentioning that Gatti belongs in the Hall of Fame. That statement is an insult to all of the fighters who actually win big time fights and have beaten boxing legends. It's a disgrace to all of the future HOFs like ODLH, Hopkins, PBF, and Pac that he is even mentioned with them. Don't get me wrong, the Gatti-Ward series was as close to classic slugfest as you're ever gonna get and the guy has a ton of heart, but heart shouldn't outweight skill, training, and championships. The guy has lost every fight against a big-time fighter and wasn't even close, and he has lost against regular journeyman too. Let's all remember Gatti as a guy who put his heart on the line every fight, but let's also remember that he was just one cut or so below the rest. There are a ton of fighters with Gatti's heart, it doesn't mean they belong in the HOF.
Re: Gatti does not belong in the Hall of Fame!!!
And Michael Carbajal does? I think gatti has a chance.
Re: Gatti does not belong in the Hall of Fame!!!
a ton of fighters with gattis heart? name one............ and i'll call u a lier cuz u won't find one.......... i believe alot of what u say is true... HOF... he'll be there. does he deserve it. I think so but in all honesty thats up for grabs. i agree with u............... don't ever say that someone today is fighting with the same heart gatti has...... dont even try. :-X
Re: Gatti does not belong in the Hall of Fame!!!
I think Gatti is a great fighter. Arturo has brought a lot of excitement to the boxing fan over the years. It would be criminal not to put Gatti in the Hall of fame . Gatti may not be the most technical fighter in the world, but he lays everything he has on the line every time he has fought , and really defines what the heart of a fighter is all about, the heart of a champion. Old school toughness. Raw determination . . Hell he has won titles in several weight classes. Cheers to Gatti . ! Hope boxing spawns more of this type fighter , Boxing can use all the Gatti's it can get !
Re: Gatti does not belong in the Hall of Fame!!!
Agreed, Gatti does not belong in the Hall of Fame!!!
The fact that he has heart, minimal skills, power, & the ability to lose to B+ fighters falls below the qualifications.

When you factor in all his toughness and . winning titles in 3 weight classes. He deserve to get in ! anyone that bring the kind of excitement to boxing, deserve to get in (Gatti - Ward) . Boxing don't get better then that.! he has been in "fight of the year " several times. , that’s what boxing is all about. Heart and determination ! overcoming obstacles. . its about leaving nothing in the tank ! and given it your best, and at times beating better skilled boxers with sheer determination . He has beat some great guys Tracy Patterson to win a title, Gabe Rueleus, James Leija, Calvin Grove, Terron Millett at the time was a top guy. winning titles in 3 weight classes. Thrill factor baby ! my point is there are several roads that lead to the same destination .

Hall of Fame
FAME.
Gatti is perhaps the most famed fighter of this generation. How many FOTY's has he been in? I mean the guy leaves it ALL in the ring. If the requirements for the hall of fame was that they had to be the absolute best fighters from each and every generation then Gatti would be by no means a hall of famer. But the hall of fame is for guys who bettered the sport, advanced the sport, entertained fans and those who acheived fame. Gatti accomplished all that and then some. Sure the guys' accomplishments do have to be a factor aswell but he WAS a champion. I mean it's not like he spent his whole career on the underbelly of the contender list. The Hall of Fame is for people who deserve to be frozen in time alongside other legends, Arturo Gatti is LEGENDARY. He is this generations Carmen Basilio minus the victories over Sugar Ray (Basilio would have got even if he lost imo). He is this generation's Tony Zale. Guys who didn't have the skills of the elite fighters, guys who weren't world beaters but guys who were immensly popular and left their body in the ring everytime they went out.
Arturo Gatti is absolutely something I want people of future generations to be able to read about. He is a guy who doesn't ever deserve to be forgotten. Have you seen the list of IBHOF members? It's HUGE. No way that anyone can ever convince me that Gatti doesn't belong there. Now I'm not saying his accomplishments is legendary, and he definitely isn't a hall of famer on paper, but it's the IBHOF's job to go past the notepad and enshrine him. He's first ballot imo no question. I'm surprised there is such a strong sentiment to keep him out to be honest.
Re: Gatti does not belong in the Hall of Fame!!!
true that.... HOF? How many guys sit in the HOF that in hindsight dont deserve it? Many. If Gatti doesn't belong in there I will start my list on who doesn't............ DON'T MAKE ME DO IT!!!!!!!
CC AMAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently this guy knows NOTHING about true Heart in this sport...
I have seen what we call "heart" in some of my fighters....But, I have not seen or had any that would have fought the majority of a fight with a broken hand, Nor, have I ever had a fighter that produced the greatest trilogy in boxing today....
The Hall of Fame is exactly what it is, A "Hall" of "Fame".....And Gatti has all the fame a fighter could ask for...
He belongs there...If Carbahal can get in, Gatti is basically a shoe in....
Name ONE great fight Carbahal ever had???
Thats what I thought....
Good luck
Coach

I agree with you ...........Gatti is the "poster boy" for prize fighting, ! but carbijal was a great little fighter also, his wars with Humberto "Chiqita" Gonzalas were classics ! . i wounder if Humberto Gonzalas made it in? that 107lber could fight !
