Re: Hatton to drop belt??
When you look at Hatton's performance in his fight at welter, and if you look back at the threads here everyone was screaming blue murder. you have to agree, that even dropping the belts, again, might be an idea if he can walk into a title fight at light welter against a beatable opponent. And let's face it, he's shown that his tactics might well be lacking in the heavier division, where his opponents are more resilient and he doesn't have as much ability to smother his opponents.

According to a report out by BBC Sport, Ricky Hatton could be dropping to light-welterweight, and that move could mean giving up his title.
The BBC Quoted Ray Hatton (Ricky's Father/Trainer): "We are not averse to giving up belts rather than being pushed into mandatory fights few people want to see. It is lovely and a great honour to have the belts but these days in the modern era of boxing it is big fights that the fans and the television companies want to see."
Hatton's next opponent could be welterweight Oktay Urkal. The idea was Arturo Gatti, but those thoughts have been scraped after Carlos Baldomir stopped Gatti in round 9 this weekend.
Hatton's Father tells the BBC: "Ricky will be fighting in a great American city in December. The Gatti defeat altered our way of thinking. It was the fight everybody wanted to see but it is not going to happen now as he has been beaten."

I think that a wise move, Hatton showed lots of heart trying to muscle and stay right on Collozo who was so much bigger and stronger. That was a Great win, now its time to get back to were he belongs at 140 lbs ..
Re: Hatton to drop belt??
Can he do it and stay strong at this moment in time, I remember a time when Ricky didnt get hit with shots like He does now. Against fighters just as good as the ones Hes boxing now make no mistake.
Re: Hatton to drop belt??
I'm not sure what he should do,is he going to go back down or stay @147 where all the big money is but where he is not as effective? It's certainly a good move to drop the belt,it was not doing anything for him but what now?
Personally,I say got to 140,CLEAN IT OUT!!It would add to his legacy and he would be more successful at that weight. He could fight and beat all the champs there and there could be possible fights with Corrales,Castillo and guys like Freitas if they move up too. Then there are guys like Torres and Urango which would make for great fights too, although I don't see super big USA$$$ paydays though

I agree. But I think he should only move back down to take a big fight not some journeyman and we all know who I am talking about MR COTTO, but I would not mind a Corrales fight, I don't think anyone would.
Re: Hatton to drop belt??
Hatton doesn't need a belt.........he needs an elastic waistband
Re: Hatton to drop belt??
GB bro,Cotto is/has already moved up to 147,his first fight is on DEC2 hopefully!

That sucks, oh well maybe we can get a PBF-Cotto fight instead if Floyd ever decides to get up off of his thrown.
Re: Hatton to drop belt??
I think it is a better idea for him to move back down to 140. Collazo is a small WW and he gave Hatton the fight of his life. If he can unify at 140 then that would help out his legacy as a boxer.
Re: Hatton to drop belt??
IF he wants a Big fight he better stay at 147 and face Cotto at 147 in December since both fighters are fighting in that month. So instead of Hatton fighting a true WW he will fight a More Muscle, more in shape (you know not having to loose all Thait weight before a fight) and new to the 147 Miguel Cotto. He is already there and trained in that weight he has nothing to fear or neglet that fight OR he can Fight Baldi. Hatton is a warrior RIGHT?? then tell him to drop his belt and got for the ones that Mr. Baldi has!!! ;D
Re: Hatton to drop belt??
its amazing...Hatton gave his word he'd give Collazo a rematch
Re: Hatton to drop belt??
If Cotto has moved up , and it was always going to happen, then who is going to want to fight Hatton at 140? Not Vivian Harris thats for sure. ;D
He does operate more effectively at 140 though as he can dominate and be stronger.
If he is returning to 140 then he needs to clean house, collect all the belts, knock everyone down and be the man again.
Whatever he does, he needs to do it in America with massive TV audiences.
Good luck to him.

He said it straight after the fight. It will never happen for any of the following reasons:
1. HBO dont want nothing to do with it, they want Hatton to move on to bigger and better things. Hatton has signed a 3 fight deal with them so im pretty certain they will have a BIG say in who he fights.
2. Hatton watched the replay of the fight in the days after the fight and realised that no matter how much you want to look at it he did win that fight by at least 2 rounds and there is no need for a rematch, you dont have to rematch people just because you beat them on points.
Collazo had his chance and he wasnt good enough. FACT.

When I watched the fight I thought the only reason Hatton was cause of the KD in the 1st. If it wasnt for that then it would have been a draw. At least that is the way I say the fight.
