MORALES STARTS TRAINING AS AN UNDERDOG

Las Vegas, NV-Having lost two fights in a row, (Zahir Raheem & Manny Pacquiao) and three (Marco Antonio Barrera) out of his last four, Erik Morales, a champion at 122, 126 and 130 lbs. thought that by starting training camp early, come November 18 he would be in the best shape both physically and emotionally for the third fight with Pacquiao. That being said, if you only want “positive” news coming out of the Erik Morales training camp, you might want to stop reading at this point.

LONG CAMP FOR PACMAN CAN HAVE BAD RESULTS

When Roberto Duran went to camp, especially in the latter stage of his boxing life, it was all about his having to lose weight. Although Morales has to make 130 lbs. for the showdown with Pacquiao, or risk losing millions of dollars, his going to camp early is not only to pare down, but it’s really an attempt to get his confidence back. But a prolonged training camp could takeout any fight Morales might have left in him, seeing he has endured 342 professional rounds since turning professional 13 ½ years ago.

SPARRING SESSIONS HAVE ERIK GETTING LIT UP!

My camp sources have been reporting that while Morales is paring down, his frame of mind has been good. If you’re looking at the big picture, then you should be feeling pretty good right about now. OK, ready for the bad news? The sparring sessions that have taken place between Morales, 48-4 (34 KOs) and Edwin Valero, 20-0 (20 KOs) have been so one sided that I expect the Venezuelan southpaw to be let go sooner, rather than later!

ERIK’S BEEN GETTING HAMMERED LIKE A NAIL!

There has never been a shortage of “want” in Erik Morales. But at 29 years of age, with 52 fights under his belt, and having fought 342 professional rounds to date, Erik Morales is indeed a “shot” fighter. And while Valero has “future” champion written all over him, Erik has “future” knockout victim scrawled all over him! With this a week less than three months away from fighting Manny Pacquiao, Erik will be so drained come November 18, that he’ll be lucky to last six with the Filipino blaster!

Not sure about the impartiality of the writer or whether what he is writing is indeed true but I am beginning to change my mind again. I thought Erik would be ultra competitive but maybe they are just focusing on him actually making weight,and training for that rather than trainin for the fight! It's possible!

No,not really,I mean I have in my collection various clips of Valero going to war with Morales and getting the better of it but I thought that Morales also had his share of control in the sparring although in 1 particular session,Valero countered him beautifully!!

how long has he been in camp for? I hope its not as bad as it sounds.

i think that it could very well just be a ploy to throw Pacquiaos team off, doubt it would work but could be a possibility, i haven't seen anything in Morales last showing that he isn't capable of performing at top level, by saying Morales is "shot", then they are basically down playing Pacquiao, because his win was nothing close to dominant, and he was also fighting a supposed "shot" Morales

My thoughts exactly...along with the fact that Pac's camp has been playing head games with Morales about Pac not caring about the 2lbs & what not.

Where have I heard something like this before ???

All that matters is what happends in that ring that night. And what the fwock does Duran have to do with this.....OK you wanna bring up Duran, he did beat Barkley after "draining" himself to make weight :P

Agreed. I wouldnt give too much consideration to this article. The fight is a long way off yet...

I believe that EM probably won't stick around to be anyone's second fiddle, and if he's not the best in the world it probably won't be worth it for him. If he loses badly, he'll probably hang em up. If he wins or comes out looking competitive the 130 division has a number of lesser echelon but still lucrative match-ups he can make.

I like Morales as a fighter but I don't see how he's going to pull this off.

U guys obviously have never seen Morale spar with Valero before.

Valero is up & coming an Erik has left his prime even more this time aound.
