Colin McMillan: Benn And Eubank Would Of Beaten Calzaghe
"Some people have short memories. Benn was a complete fighting machine at super-middleweight. He stalked, he dipped, he rolled, he banged the body and blasted the head.
"Eubank came up with a style that was almost impossible to beat. (He) landed his shots from out of range, jabs or rights, head or body, and always got himself out of harms way. He could also be the consummate counter-puncher and Benn the ultimate warrior.
"From what I saw of Calzaghe last night, if that was Benn or Eubank in their prime he was in with it would of been like lamb to the slaughter. He would lose to both, I've always thought that."
(McMillan was Audley Harrison's manager, don't know if he still is. He was once considered Britain's answer to Sugar Ray Leonard, but injured his shoulder badly during a fight, his title loss, and had to be carried out on a stretcher and was never the same)

Which is exactly what I siad. One performance that doesn't satisfy the world, doesn't close the book on a fighter.
Let's not all forget about the other fights that Joe has won. People also act as if the Lacy fight was Calzaghe's only win...the fact is...he just owned Lacy...but haters would rather forget that & focus on his fight against Bika.

Some people like to live in shoulda, coulda. woulda, land. Nobody knows who's going to win any fight until the fight is over with. Picking fighters from different eras is just useless. There is no way to predict a winner.

calzaghe would outbox benn and he would have too much workrate for eubank. eubank hated fighters that didnt fight at his pace and calzaghe wouldnt let eubank fight at his pace now benn vs calzaghe like i said too quick for benn he would beat benn by ud or stop him late

CC, DD. Interesting little article. They were obviously all together when answering cause it was a bit like follow the leader.
Considering the article is from 2003 I wonder if Duke still thinks this - McKenzie: "Both Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank would have beaten him in their prime, and the Benn who beat Gerald McClellan would have been best of all." He seems a pretty big Calzaghe fan in the commentary box.
I agree with him about the Benn that beat McClellan. 8)

How dyou explain eubank beating Benn and coming back to stop watson then, the man could win at all costs, rather like Benn v mcClellen, I dont like Calzaghe but he is a very good fighter but so are Benn and Eubank and I believe they are all equally as good but id still favour Chris.
when they did fight joe was supposed to be Collins mandatory defence but Steve got knocked cold by Howard Eastman a week before the fight, Eubank on the undercard already to fight a lightheavy bout against mark Prince took the bout at short notice, he would have already been trying to get down to lightheavy that week let alone supermiddle another 7lbs below.
chris probably had something like a stone to lose in the last week, I remember reading that all he was eating all week was fruit and vegatable juice, yet he still gave Joe his self confessed hardest fight.
I believe in Chris;s heyday he would have beaten Joe, when chris lost to Collins it was down to having 8 12 rounders in 1 year, which world champs now take on even half of that workload ?

he got beat by watson in first fight and the pace of that wasnt much watson was giving him beating in 2nd fight eubank got lucky punch first benn fight eubank done very well 2nd fight eubank should of lost to benn eubank hates people that doesnt fight at his pace its well known and benn has dodgy chin so thats reasons i think calzaghe would win calzaghe easily beat eubank. eubank was down in 1st round and had to take a count in 8th or 9th cant quite remember which round eubank won about 3 rounds at most calzaghe easily beat eubank

based on sats performance maybe mcmillans got a point. however if your gonna say that you could also say that the holyfield that fought bert cooper would lose to bruce seldon. dont judge on one fight
i always find it hard comparing fighters from different eras even ones that are close together.
I personally think benn would have given roy jones more probs than eubank but eubank beat benn once!
one not so good night at the office doesnt make you a bad fighter. i thought joe fought Ok on saturday. he certainly didnt stink the place out.
Joe at his peak against either benn or eubank at their peak would of been some fight. its a pity for joe hed didnt fight in that era so there could of been a definitive winner.
oh and as far as colin mcmillan had the shoulder not gone he would have been a "great" british fighter

Eubank had to lose 19lbs in four days for the first Watson fight. He won the first six rounds easily before completely running out of strength and somehow surviving the rest of the fight without going down. As for the second Eubank/Watson fight, Watson would of beaten any other fighter in the world that night! He was leagues above anything we'd ever seen from him! Unbelievably strong, very high tempo and never tired, and everything Eubank hit him with - nothing, Watson kept on coming.. how Eubank survived that second Watson fight I'll never know, let alone won it(!), Watson seemed to be almost superhuman on the night.

yep agreed about watson but disagree with eubank winning first 6 rounds no way in hell he won first 6
