Harrison fitness 'not an issue'
Scott Harrison will be fit to defend his WBO featherweight title against Nicky Cook on 9 December, according to his father and trainer Peter.
Harrison, 29, has been in a Spanish prison since 6 October after an alleged incident in Malaga.
A Spanish court is expected to decide early next week if the Cambuslang fighter can be released on bail.
"He is training in prison and there are seven weeks to the fight. Fitness will not be an issue," said Peter Harrison.
"Scott assured me he had done nothing wrong and everything had been blown out of proportion.
"Scott's manager, Barry Hughes, has flown over there with an interpreter and they have a top Spanish lawyer on the case.
"We thought there would be a hearing on Friday, but it proved impossible to get the judge and Scott's legal team together.
The fight is on - there's no reason at all why it shouldn't be
Harrison's manager Barry Hughes
"The Spanish court apparently need proof that he is fighting on 9 December, so an advertising poster is being faxed over to them.
"I spoke to Scott on Saturday morning and he is bearing up. But he is worried that if he is kept in any longer it could threaten the fight."
Last week the British Boxing Board of Control said it would seek assurances over his fitness, both physical and mental, before sanctioning any title defences.
"We have to be sure he is medically fit to continue fighting," said BBCofC secretary Simon Block.
"We need clarification of what Scott Harrison has got himself into and to find out if there are any implications.
"If any licence holder is found guilty of a criminal offence, it is a matter of concern to the Board under regulation 25 - which concerns any fighter bringing boxing into disrepute."
Harrison is already facing charges relating to six offences, including three of assault and on of fraud, in South Lanarkshire.
Last Tuesday, Hughes insisted his charge's fight against former European champion Cook was still on.
"This is just a setback of one week," said Hughes. "The fight is on - there's no reason at all why it shouldn't be."
However, the Scot has been warned he could be held in Spain until next year.
His arrest comes five months after his decision to pull out of his last fight in Belfast at just two days' notice.
Harrison withdrew from his fight against Gairy St Claire after checking into the Priory clinic with depression and alcoholism issues.
Re: Harrison fitness 'not an issue'
hasn't Cook already been scheduled to fight Juan Manuel Marquez in November instead?

NEWS FLASH
Cook in demand!
By Karl Freitag
The name of Nicky Cook has been brought up as the next possible opponent for WBO interim featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, who is now slated to return on Golden Boy Promotions' November 25 card. Cook is currently scheduled to challenge troubled WBO champion Scott Harrison on December 9, however Harrison has been in jail in Spain for more than two weeks in relation to an alleged assault. A bail hearing this week could have an impact on whether Harrison-Cook happens or not. Despite his surroundings, Harrison is said to be running and doing shadow boxing in preparation for the fight. Cook (26-0, 15 KOs) is currently rated WBO #10.
Re: Harrison fitness 'not an issue'
If i was Cook i would stay as far away as possible from Marquez, isn't Cook intrem WBC challenger?? Surely that would be a better route than Marquez who for me would put a clinic on our boy Cook

Re: Harrison fitness 'not an issue'
hey man,i did'nt have a bad attitude with that first comment,i did'nt use any profanity or do any name calling or CAPS to emphasize my point, btw if i do have a chip on my shoulder it's because whenever there's a thread about Scott Harrison most ppl are always either slagging him off or just ignorant about his chances in a fight,im a big fan of Harrison.
P.S. there's loads of threads where ppl are downright dissing other ppl for their veiw but all I do is use a cple !! and ur getting on to me,whats up with that?
Re: Harrison fitness 'not an issue'
Chill dudes ( The clowns pocket gag was a classic btw, lol)
Although i rate Harrison highly, i think the guy is seriously troubled these days. Two weeks is a long time out of training, I doubt he can do proper stamina and condition training while banged up for 23 hours a day!!!!!!!!!
Maybe he can make a big fight with naz in Las Vegas state penitentiary. ;D
Re: Harrison fitness 'not an issue'
who knows man,I read today that supposedly he's been running and doing shadow boxing in jail and of course because he's in jail he wont have access to alcohol. If thats the case then if he does get out in the next week he shld be fine but who knows.I dont know what to believe in the papers
Re: Harrison fitness 'not an issue'
Thats true, if he gets out next week he should be ok. I like harrison and i hope he gets out and wins the fight.

was nothing against harrison .. hes a solid good fighter, whats more hes british..
its just something to say about everyone in prison.. lol
like i said just a joke... i couldnt tell how you felt from the first post u put its just we get alot of people on here that talk crap and dont back it up and expect everyone to agree with them, but at least youre not gone mad and i can see you want to make a genuine contribution... fair play to ya..
