Ruiz: I'm the best heavyweight!
Two-time world heavyweight champion John "The Quietman" Ruiz (41-6-1, 28 KOs) broke training camp Thursday in Las Vegas and is in Germany for Saturday night's (Nov. 18) mandated WBA elimination fight against unbeaten Ruslan "White Tyson" Chagaev (21-0-1, 17 KOs) in Dusseldorf, Germany. The Ruiz-Chagaev winner will be the mandatory challenger for WBA heavyweight champion Nicolay Valuev. "Training camp was great," stated Ruiz last week. "I'm very happy with the way training has gone. We're ready for the fight. There's still a week to go and I'll be training a little over there. Training camp felt different from past camps. It was totally different. I worked on some new things and I really enjoyed it; not just the training but learning, moving on to bigger and better things, in my career and life." Ruiz lost his WBA title belt last December in Germany to Valuev by a controversial 12-round split decision. "Like I've said in the past," John explained, "I really enjoyed everything about Germany -- the people and country -- other than the final outcome. Valuev's been holding my belt. I've trained a lot harder for this fight so I won't have to rely on the judges for a decision. I'm not looking past Chagaev," Ruiz concluded. "He's dangerous and likes to come right at you, but that's my game. I still believe that I'm the best heavyweight in the world. When I return home with a win I'll be willing to fight any of the so called world champions."

Re: Ruiz: I'm the best heavyweight!
Beat me to it...
I was just going to add: Ruiz: I'm the best heavyweight...to get knocked out by Tua in 19 seconds!
Re: Ruiz: I'm the best heavyweight!
So is Ruiz still fighting or is this part of his stand up act???
Re: Ruiz: I'm the best heavyweight!
I know I should be shot for saying this but I'd kind of like to see Ruiz win this fight and get his rematch with Valuev.
After all, he was robbed first time around and I believe in a fair and just world....
Re: Ruiz: I'm the best heavyweight!
Yeah and then instead of being beaten by a boring decision we can see him demolished by Briggs or Wladimir....or even Sam Peter if he gets his head on straight

I'm not so sure if he would get demolished by Briggs. Ruiz does have that tricky right when he's not humpin his opponent. Made Holyfield get canvased.
Re: Ruiz: I'm the best heavyweight!
....Briggs would throw a couple huge bombs for 3 rounds and you know how easy it is for Ruiz to get caught....and in hugging Briggs he might tire himself out
Re: Ruiz: I'm the best heavyweight!
If the "best" means most rediculously boring

I think he would beat Briggs, because Briggs would be exhausted but Wlad would knock him out. Briggs for his size and strength is not very impressive and will not hold the title very long. And who knows with Peter, Ruiz as bad as he seems to be just keeps on trucking until he runs up against a slick fast fighter. (Jones and Toney), He beat the russian giant though.
Re: Ruiz: I'm the best heavyweight!
Very true....Sam would have to keep distance and also go to the body 2 things he sucks at
Briggs has the big punch....he's lazy and he's big and he doesn't do enough cardio....but he hits hard and he's big enough and strong enough to keep Ruiz off of him.
Ruiz is like The Blob....he just holds onto something and smothers and moves slow and just .......someone freeze that motherfucker and ship him to Antartica!!!
Re: Ruiz: I'm the best heavyweight!
John Ruiz could be one of the best, at the moment, if only he would change his boring style. If he threw more punches and not bear hug sweaty men so much, i would cheer for him.
