Winky: they're still ducking me
'Winky' Wright says the sport's big names are still avoiding him ahead of his clash with Ike Quartey.
The pair will meet in an intriguing showdown for fight afficianados in Florida this weekend, but for Wright the exposure could have been so much greater.
He challenged for Jermain Taylor's middleweight crown earlier this year, with the fight ending in a draw.
But instead of a rematch with Taylor or a money-spinning showdown with the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, it's the comebacking Quartey on his schedule next.
"They still ducking me," Wright (50-3-1, 25 KOs) told The Boston Globe.
"Only Ike wanted to fight me. This will be a different kind of fight than Jermain. That fight I was pressing him. He was only fighting to keep me off him. He wasn't fighting to win. Ike will bring it.
"I don't know if this is a crossroads fight for us, but they can call it what they want. I just want to prove I'm still one of the best fighters in the world. I want to show I can dominate a once great champion.
"I duck no-one. Everything I did came the hard way. Jermain I beat in his hometown. Now he doesn't want to fight me again. Ike is the only guy who would fight me. I'll do everything it takes. He better be ready to do the same. I'm not someone who's past tense."

From what I remember it was Wright who turned down the rematch with Taylor. So what the fuck is he talking about? He's also clearly over looking Quartey. And it's going to cost him. I'm taking Quartey in this fight.

Even though winky immediately after the loss to JT stated "i don't want a rematch, because i beat him today" there were talks for the rematch between promoters, and JT priced himself out of the fight, the percentage was unjust. JT lost that fight, and all the publicity after the fight (about how JT did not win the fight) has made it very difficult for JT to want the same Percentage as directly following the fight. The fact that JT has not won convincingly in his last 3 fights diminishes his credibility.
Saying " I'll Fight em" for 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 is the same thing as running.

i had jt up by two rounds in the fight with wright, but there were a few close rounds that could have gone either way.
winky wright didnt win.....he was fortunate to walk away with a draw
jt was willing to take a smaller percentage of the purse this time around, BUT it was winky wright who demanded parity ;)
so lets look at the facts....................
1st fight was a DRAW
taylor was willing to take a SMALLER percentage of the purse this time around (he NEVER asked for some ridiculous amount of the purse this time around, i dont know where the hell you got that nonsense from)
youre saying that his last 3 fights being close diminishes his credibility................total bs. look who his last 3 fights were with. if anything, his stock has catapulted to superstardom (espically after bernards dominating performance against tarver)
if anything, it was wright who priced himself out

Fuck Winky. I like the guy but I'm tired of hearing him talk about JT like JT ducked Winky. JT was ready to fight. And since JT is undisputed champ at 160, I didn't have a problem with him getting 55 and Winky getting 45.

you must not have been around when somebody else tried to use the compubox numbers and i put that theory to rest
heres why....................
if you saw the fight, then you know that there were 3 rounds where winky out landed jermain by a total of 40 punches (watch the fight again because they mention it and show the numbers)
i give winky those 3 rounds all day long.
but for the remaining 9 rounds, winky outlanded jermain by a total of 23 punches.
so now we have winky outlanding jermain by 23 punches which averages out to less then 3 (2. something) more punches per round.
so are seriously saying that winkys extra 2 punches a round are more effective than jermains shots? didnt think so ;)
what is it with novices trying to use compubox numbers to determine who won the fight? compubox numbers are a measure of a fighters ACTIVITY.............. not effectiveness
and its funny that you show a picture of jermain after the fight but not winky (who was way more busted up at the end)

Who exactly is ducking him? Taylor has no reason to duck him. Even if you think Wright won that fight, then you have to agree that it was close. Wright ain't getting any better, Taylor is. I think Taylor would hand him his ass the second time around. After that fight nobody should duck Wright.
I will give Wright credit for the Taylor fight because it was one his first "non-boring" fights.

First off you contradict yourself in this post, so if i was you would hold that novice title for yourself.
The last three wins has only proved 1 thing, Jermaine taylor still has alot to prove in the division.
It is JT who was lucky to come away with a draw, That last round should of been a tie, which would of won it for winky.

If Winky feels he got robbed so badly against Taylor, maybe he shouldn't have spent the 12th round doing absolutely nothing but dancing around. If he's such an intelligent boxer, then he should know that you don't give away the final round in a close fight when you're not the hometown fighter.
I also don't understand the people who criticize Taylor for not looking good in his last 3 fights, when the two guys he faced, Hopkins and Winky, are the two most difficult guys to look good against of the last 10 years.
Someone explain how to win in entertaining fashion against Hopkins and Wright, because no one has done it yet.

i didnt contradict anything, all i did was throw your compubox numbers back at you so you could see how they dont mean as much as you thought they did
and what does taylor have left to prove? he beat hopkins TWICE, and winky is pricing himself out of the rematch. 55% is more than fair for the undisputed champion of a division.

Well said. Taylor won that first fight against Winky and he will win even more convincingly if there is a rematch. He is younger, stronger, faster, and is only going to get better. He already has great experience having fought Hopkins twice and Winky once. I lost alot respect for Winky after the Taylor fight. The way he acted after the fight was childish. And Winky definitely has priced himself out. For him to front like Jermain is ducking him is a total joke.
