Miguel Cotto vs. Carlos Quintana(Majestic thoughts)
I'm watching this forum and I see that people are talking about that Cotto can beat Mayweather or move up and fight all these different elite fighters like a Zab Judah or Margarito or someone of that nature, some even saying he deserves to be p4p.
I have no doubt in my mind that he could beat Cintron.
But the other names mentioned, even p4p.
Who did Cotto just beat?
Quintana.
Who has Quintana beat?
Julio.
Who is Julio?
I don't consider Carlos Quintana as the best opponent that Miguel has faced. I consider DeMarcus Corley still the best opponent on Cotto's list of fights. Quintana was a step down from Cotto's last fight imo.
Quintana is a guy who had a style made for someone like Cotto particularly in his weaknesses.
I said before this fight around October that Quintana was going to get beat.
Some of the things I heard was that Quintana beat a great fighter in Julio that was better then anyone that Cotto has beaten. To that I responded
"If Julio went to the body then we wouldn't be talking about Quintana. His turn away style defense exposes his ribs and Cotto may as well break them. Ask Virgil hill what happened when Roy did it to him"
And this is true, Julio attacked Quintana strickly to the head when his defense exposed his body to shots whenever one was thrown. Cotto exposed this as well and probably broke a rib or two.
I agree with everyone that Quintana boxed beautifully against Julio.
But like I said that "Quintana has a lot of promise but this is the wrong guy to find that out against. He's jumping from a Guppy to a Shark and he's still a goldfish."
And the shark(Cotto) did exactly what it was supposed to do to the Goldfish.
Like I said, Quintana HAD a lot of promise, Cotto was just the wrong guy to try to find out against.
and as far as the Julio fight, at the same time I'm asking you what did Julio do? It had a lot to do with things that Julio wasn't doing in that fight then what Quintana was. There were holes but Julio wasn't taking advantage the way a fighter like Miguel Cotto did.
I believe credit is where credit is due, but the talk of Cotto beating Mayweather or Cotto being p4p now and everything like that is going very overboard when he just only beat Quintana and dispatched of him early.
It was only Carlos Quintana.
As far as Cotto's next fight. I would like him to fight the REAL avoided guy in the division and another fellow Puerto Rico born fighter named Luis Collazo.
This is a fight where we can really see what Miguel Cotto is made out of in the 147 pound division to see if he's ready tp fight the top fighters in this division.
Let's not throw Cotto on such a high level before he's fought anyone to even show if he is capable of the levels we are trying to put him on.

It looks like some people can never be pleased. Quintana was undefeated and was, is a good fighter. If Quintana was a slugger everybody would say Cotto beat somebody who just came at him. Made for Cotto. How would he deal with a boxer who didn't just stay in front of him? Can he adjust and cut off the ring? Well guess what? Quintana was a boxer. A good one. Cotto had some problems in the beginning but he adjusted and scored an impressive win. Give the man his credit.

I give Quintana credit but like I said. He was a Goldfish in with a shark. And Quintana got away with things and holes that he couldn't and wouldn't get away with in the upper class. And Cotto showed that.

Simply put Cotto moved up in weight, fought a dangerous southpaw, and he destroyed him. I like how people thought Quintana was dangerous before and now discredit him because Cotto beat him so easily.
Cotto is as good as his last fight and this means he's deserving of such great praise

CC...That's exactly right. Many people were picking Quintana to win and I myself wasn't convinced that Cotto would win. Quintana is really really good and if he gets another opportunity, you will see that. Anyhow, Cotto looked like his early years at 140 aroud the time he won the title and that was the Cotto everyone was falling for. I guess the weight was an even bigger issue than he was letting on.

Good post,CC. Andthat was a HUGE ASS ring he was cutting off well!!! It's about time Cotto got some credit,he has fought some good fighters, moved up and fought a dangerous slick southpaw. Quintana also beat Cassiani who KTFO Collazo in 3 so that was a good win too and IF qUINTANA was younger(and he may very well stick around)he would have a bright future ahead of him and would still be one of the best WW's He's 30 now so I don't know if he'll come back.
Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Carlos Quintana(Majestic thoughts)
Cotto is a ferocious body puncher even up at the bigger weight.
Yeah he looked impressive but the elite won't quit on their stool like Quintana did ;)

Not all will quit on their stools. Others will take knees and bow down, while others will continue to fight with a broken jaws, cracked ribs and internal bleeding.

You said something contradictory,I pointed that out and that makes me anti Hatton? I like Hatton and I think he is an awesome fighter at 140 but Cotto is a better fighter and even if they don't meet in th ering,Cotto WILL leave a btter legacy and again,I stressI am not ANTI anyone especially Hatton. He is an exciting vicious fighter,I just like Cotto more and think Miguel is better in most aspects.
Re: Miguel Cotto vs. Carlos Quintana(Majestic thoughts)
But Smash,I'll agree with you on 1 thing,Hatton battered Tszyu, watched the fight again this morning and although Tszyu landed a few shots,Hatton whooped him!
