Ben vs Mclellan Weird fight

I just watched this fight earlier today for the 1st time. It was a good fight. Both were landing and hurting each other but I thought Mcclellan was leading in the fight. And ended with Mcclellan quitting?

I can saw that he was a little dizzy and was basically blinking like he was trying to get his senses back while the ref was counting him out. I thought that he could have continued. However he didnt. What was that all about? Why in the world did Mcclellan quit? What happened to him ? What happened to Nigel Ben?

My friend just told me, it was a head butt that did Mcclelan? ??? ??? ??? ???

he could not continue any longer and he would of died

the headbutt did call him some problems it was unintentional i think cnt remember tht well but i think he had problems from much earlier than that he couldnt hold his gum shield in from very early in the fight

also i read in a book (war,baby by kevin mitchell) that mclellan wrapped his own hands tht night and the few other cases of this happening for a pro fight ended with tht fighter dieing or being injured severly i dont see the connection between the two

anyone know ?

One of the great fights of all time IMO, but one overshadowed by the tragedy surrounding it all. Very topsy turvy fight, great action...

I was at the fight.

I wouldn't call it wierd ....... it was the most brutal fight I have ever seen.

Benn would have beaten anyone in the world that night, including some heavies - he was possessed, a fanatic. I have never seen a man as pumped up as he was and I'm sure that he left something of himslef in the ring that night too.

Who knows what was going on inside McClellan's scrambled mind. I saw him backing off, blinking furiously and pushing his gumshield out like he could not breathe properly. It shames me to admit I booed him as he was counted out as I thought he had quit.

I paid £50 for my ticket to a fight, and I am still ashamed as I nearly was at a public execution.

(Still a great fight though)

Spooky, a taped it on a video right after Eubank-Watson II ???

I thought the darker fighter Nigel Ben that he was punished enough in the 1st round and survived. He basically went back into the ring like he wanted some more. All the while I can notice Mclelan sucking/spitting his mouthpiece? What was wrong with that? I find that odd.

The mans brain was bleeding,thats what was wrong with him!

Mc now has perminant brain damage.

No one care to mention mclellan was brain damaged and started to loose his sight during the fight....

A fair reason to take the count on a knee if you ask me ;)

You weren't to know what was going on.

I was in a similar situation this year watching Jamie Moore and Matty Macklin, when the KO came all the Salford Boys were going wild for Jamie, it took them a while to calm down and realise the seriousness of it all but they weren't to know either

Thankfully Macklin was okay but a few of those lads might have felt the same as yourself afterwards no doubt

I saw the fight a couple years after it happened but never knew that he was injured in the way he was...
I thought there was something wrong with it definately..To have took a count on his knee and be taken out on a stretcher completely bewildered me..
Tell you something though..Benn was a wild man..Ive seen him spark out people something horrific...

Hate to be cruel but he may have been better off

The fight should have been stopped when Benn got his ass kicked in the 1st round

Also I believe rabbit punches from Benn as well as McClellan's hard sparring led to his disability

I know him to nod at, and he is one scary individual.

A true hard man you would prefer to fight in the ring than on the street.

Your right. If it wasn't for that bias ass referee Benn would not of gotten out of that first round. That joke of a ref, Benn's illegal rabbit punches and dirty head butts are the reason McClellan is the way he is.
