Put SPOILERS in your thread title when discussing a fight result ?!? Uhhhh Why ?
Have been asked to put spoliers in my thread titles when revealing a fight result ? I posted just after Audley Harrison fight last night. This has probably cropped up before but I don't come on this message board as much these days.
Can I just ask one question - WHY ? ???
This is a boxing site and is expected to be up to date with the sport - fair enough I understand peole would want to avoid fight results but for me thats simple - if you don't want to know the result of a fight then don't go on a bloody boxing site. Am I stating the obvious here or what .Common sense ?!?!??
When I used to want to avoid late night fight results I was waiting to see I didn't even turn the tv (except to my VCR channel so I could watch it ;)) or radio on I was that worried about finding out the result - I'd have to be an absolute densehead to log onto a boxing site and not think I was risking finding out the result ::**
Its like someone going on the English premier league site at 6 o'clock Saturday tea time though not wanting to know any results as he will be watching the matches on Match of the Day later that night !
Don't want to upset anyone here and I am usually the last person to have a rant - but when I think something needs saying... ;)
Thank you for listening

I'm kind of with Marky Mark here - If I don't want to know the result I steer well clear of this place.
Besides, in Mark's case having the result in the subject line works well - it means you don't have to open the thread and read his drivel...
Re: Put SPOILERS in your thread title when discussing a fight result ?!? Uhhhh Why ?
I suppose the short answer is that people are entitled to browse the site without having the results staring straight at them.

very good
No seriously - I can't see anyone having any grounds for complaint if they find out a boxing result whilst browsing a boxing site
Anyone who does should get a month ban for being an imbecile ;)
Re: Put SPOILERS in your thread title when discussing a fight result ?!? Uhhhh Why ?
i think its agood idea to put the spoiler alert. there have been many occasions where i havent been able to catch a fight so i would log on here to get a link to the fight to watch it without having been told the result before hand.
Re: Put SPOILERS in your thread title when discussing a fight result ?!? Uhhhh Why ?
fair point in priciple - perhaps we need a links message board for such purposes
but how long do we wait before we can mention result
most other sports news forums would have the result as main headline as soon as you went on there
Re: Put SPOILERS in your thread title when discussing a fight result ?!? Uhhhh W
The thing that annoys me about the spoiler alert thing is that it seems to only apply to the Brits.
American fight results get posted on here instantly EVERY single week and discussed but because some yanks may not have been able to see the Harrison knockout yet us English are told to put spoilers so as to prevent ruining the result for the them.
Personally that's annoying. Either one rule for all, or not at all!

I agree completely, news is news and it must be reported. If someone doesnt want to know the result then they should stay off the forum. Ive done so in the past, its never bothered me.
Re: Put SPOILERS in your thread title when discussing a fight result ?!? Uhhhh Why ?
Ok you guys are getting this all twisted.
Do not put spoiler warning on everyfight you discuss.
We are only talking about putting spoiler warnings for the most part on fights that just took place.
Old fights like Ali vs Frazier need not be marked as spoiler alert/warning...what ever. (IMO) And I think this should be the general consensus.
Sure this is a boxing forum and if you don't want to know anything about current/recent fights, then don't come here or visit boxing sites with news etc. (The logical thing to do)
BUT.
On the other hand, this is home to many. Let's say I TVO'ed a fight or fight card and then came here to ask Mick something (before I watched the fight(s) and in the process I opened a thread and inside are the results of the fight(s) I had on TVO. I guess you get the picture.
While some people could careless about the results of a fight, football game, Soccer, Movie etc.. There are those who do care for whatever reason that might be.
That is just the way it is. Not just on this forum but on many and I do mean many if not most forums through-out the net. Again this does not just apply to sports, it could be movies, soap operas or other television program.
I guess this is just common courtesy. Who made the rules? I don't know, I guess people who were doing this kind of stuff long before we were.
Peace.
There are certain sites/Torrents for example, that share old fights and they include certain spoiler warnings like DO NOT CLICK on fighters BOXREC links below unless you want to know the results.
I personally do not care if I know the results before hand. I have never cared, even if it was a movie.
And one more thing, I am starting to see a lot of sarcastic posts with SPOILER on them. Stop phuking around. ;D

this site is Worldwide...some of us didn't get the fight....If we have the opportunity to see it for ourselves it stays pure like the fight you watched....we don't know.....so we can watch it on this great site and enjoy that anticipation.....I enjoy getting to see fighters from Europe so I can read and understand the posts....and Bilbo is right...we as Americans need to respect them and not just throw everything out there as soon as it happens over here....that's what is so great about being a fan...the experience and joy we get from watching something and not knowing what the outcome is before hand...

As Bilbo rightly said though, it should work both ways
Re: Put SPOILERS in your thread title when discussing a fight result ?!? Uhhhh Why ?
The result will be scrolled on the front page, no one is being denied the opportunity of finding out. Also its worth mentioning that the way ITV split their viewing over two channels means that anyone who didnt get to see Earl Katsidis (or any of the early bouts) as it happened could have seen it pretty much in its entirity a few minutes later on the second half of the broadcast.

whats so hard about putting a spoiler warning in your thread title. :dontknow:
