The Ragamuffin Man Lloyd Honeyghan
How highly do you rate Lloyd Honeyghan?
I think he is a bit of a forgotten man and at his peak has to be up there with the ATGs of British Boxing.
He shocked the world by destroying Donald Curry, brushed aside the then 24-0 Maurice Blocker, Blew away (even if he was sitting down) the excellent Johny Bumphus in 2 and battered Gene Hatcher inside a round.
He was never the same fighter after the 1st Vaca fight for some reason :-\ but I really believe that in 1986/87 he would'be beaten Breland and Starlon, he was a shot fighter when he fought them both.
Any thoughts?

Saw Lloyd a few times live back in the day and he was a great, great fighter.
Remember that well when he charged across the ring and battered Bumphus while he was still on his Bum.
Fearless Yardie type O0

Up until he became undisputed welterweight champion he was a very well schooled boxer. once he won the title he didnt box as well but became more of a brawler. This style led to his downfall. If he had stuck to his pre title style he could have beaten anyone including mccallum at light middle.
Re: The Ragamuffin Man Lloyd Honeyghan
Yeah, we was a good technical boxer and he won against Curry with this unbelievable all out assault. His fights after that were always exciting and always controversial. I liked Lloyd and still think that his victory over Curry ranks up there with Turpin over Robinson.
he also had heart and took a fearful beting against Marlon Starling when he was shot.
Curry was absolutely awesome before that fight, pushing for the P4P in the world, talking about superfights with Hagler. He was never the same afterwards.
Talking about Lloyd, here's a great quote that just sums him up:
"I admit that Starling used to get to me, so when I was walking past him once I spat in his face. I would have hit him, but I might have hurt my hand and nobody was paying me, but I had to do something" Classic !!!!

Lloyd beat Curry on a stoppage due to cuts. Curry had no business trying to fight at 147 anymore. He was so weight drained and weak looking that night. Which contributed to his performance. That was not the Curry that destoyed McCory. That Curry would of destroyed Honeyghan.

he was awesome in the fights with bumphus and hatcher and lets not forget the win in italy against rosi.
i agree his peak was so short. i think stylewise though he was made for starling no matter when they would have fought.
i think at his peak he would of beaten breland.
would of loved to have seen him face simon brown
