Probably a rhetorical question but is Frank Warren full of sh!t?
He is saying that the winner of Skelton Sprott will get a world title shot....
Well I thought the winner of Skelton Williams 2 would get a title shot......
No hang on I thought the winner of Skelton Williams 1 was supposed to get a title shot?
Why the F*** does Skelton have to fight Michael Sprott in order to get his shot?
He's already beaten Sprott, and anyway his win over Danny Williams was supposed to be the one that got him his shot?
What if Sprott beats Skelton? No way does he get a title shot. Without a shadow of a doubt Warren would want to pitch him with the winner of Williams and Gammer and call that fight the one that gets them their title shot.
And meanwhile if Skelton and Harrison fought, then Warren would say the winner of that fights the winner of Sprott vs the winner of Williams vs Gammer.
It's all crap, Matt Skelton by virtue of being the most consistent of our heavies by far should get his title shot now.
Only 1 defeat and that very controversial and he avenged it emphatically last year.
My feeling is that Frank has no power whatsoever to get any British heavyweight a world title shot and will simply milk these false 'eliminators' for all their worth.
If Matt wants to get a world title shot I think he should travel to the US, say Adios to Frank Warren and get himself a contract to fight Eddie Chambers, Tony Thompson, Ray Austin etc.
Warren is just a timewaster

Yeah, but look at what we got on a world stage....it ain't much better around the world. Personally, I reckon that Gammer and Skelton could easily do some business at an European level, and maybe work up to a shot at world title, but for Skelton the clock is ticking, and Gammer has the same problem as Sprott in that he isn't such a big guy, though he has plenty of stamina.
I sympathise with bilbo's views on Warren though, he peddles out the big promises about the next fight to sell the current one, it's what he always does. After beating Bika Calzaghe was going to get a superfight in the US of A. Manfredo, in Cardiff, and I know its going to suck. Gimme a break.

Its not that he doesnt have the power to, just that he can make more money from these guys without delivering the title fights. Especialy since theres a good chance that they could lose the title fight - better to have them keep fighting each other in eliminators. And its not too difficult for him to get away with it as none of them seem to be consistent enough to dominate the others, although as you say skelton does come the closest.
Re: Probably a rhetorical question but is Frank Warren full of sh!t?
Frank has earned Matt more money than matt could have dreamed of when starting out. Skeltons going nowhere he will stay with Frank and earn good money, Will still work with Kevin Who I might add has done a remarkable job with Matt and retire wealthy, please God

True, Warrens definately the guy to be with if your willing to accept that your skills are somewhat limited and he will make you plenty of money.

He'll do his best to keep your 0 intact anyway I give him that.
He's probably got the most comprehensive database of tomato cans anywhere in the world.
If he rents it out to other promoters the royalties from that alone must be worth more than the entire Beatles catalogue.
Re: Probably a rhetorical question but is Frank Warren full of sh!t?
He has over the years built a very good relationship with good agents, and his fighters reap the reward. One thing he pays more than anyone else, and rewards loyalty.

Your totally right... Frank can be thanked for bringing skelton to tv and a bigger stage..
We all forget that for one..Skelton is not young..I forget his age but he is definately not young..
And two..Skelton has never really been much of a boxer..Hes not a polished skillful boxer..Just big and hard.. And he can fight so stick him in the ring and earn some currency..
But ..WIth how the heavyweight division is going.. I would love to see matt brought to the world stage and make some Real big money.. I definately give him a shot against fighters like rahman, ruiz, and maskaev..
If he could earn wins like that which is very possible .Then he could go away with bigger money and lord knows matt wouldnt mind a better legacy..
I'd say go for it..
Peace

Yes Frank warren is totally full of shit and yes british heavyweights suck and none of them are world class in the list above !!!!!
Re: Probably a rhetorical question but is Frank Warren full of sh!t?
I completly aggree that Warren has said enough times that the winner of the 'next' fight will get a world title shot, but at least our top heavys are actually fighting each other.
Think how witter and hatton have danced around each other?
Or how Enzo and Haye got into a slagging match over tv rights rather than fight or how Harrison missed Cook? or Eastman or Froch never got in a ring with Calzaghe...
These heavys might not be the best we've ever had, but unlike the lower divisions we are least getting the best domestic fighters taking each other on and I'll give credit to Warren for at least making these fights (often between his own fighters.)
Re: Probably a rhetorical question but is Frank Warren full of sh!t?
Bilbo..........He is a promoter..........
Hopefuly that answered all your questions?
Seriously though...IMO Frank is a Europeon version of Don King and Bob Arum....
I have to say that out of all the people in this sport I deal with on a daily basis....Promoters are the worst......Their guy can be KO'd 25 times in a row and they will have an answer for every single time
Re: Probably a rhetorical question but is Frank Warren full of sh!t?
Skelton was offered the Maskaev fight just before Christmas but turned it down cause the money offered was "an insult"....and instead lined up to face Audley before pulling out through injury.
FW is brilliant at what he does...which isn't a good thing for hardcore boxing fans ;)
