So with a week to go...who wins Barrera or Marquez?
Finally, the Mrs has relented and I have my Skylife box and so after a horrifying break from live boxing of around 6 MONTHS I finally can watch my live boxing!!! :D This is a fight I could not afford to pass me by!
Im a big Barrera fan but can easily see how this could be touted as a pick 'em. Marquez does seem to be evolving his style and seems to come forward more. Barrera has boxed within himself in 2 (IMO) concise victories over Juarez. It all for me depends on how and what each of these two talented fighters is going to bring to the table come fight time. Who gets the strategy right on the night? Get it wrong and it will be costly. Questions have been asked about Barrera's tank. I like to think he has a couple of big fights left in him, this being one of them. Of course, I could be wrong. Marquez is the same age as Barrera but of course hasn been in as many warsas MAB...
Im picking Barrera for a decision victory. How close I couldnt dare to say....

Agreed , I think Barrera wins too
Could be a close call on the cards though if its a tactical affair . I think Barreras got alot more left in the tank than people give him credit for . Its a Mexican rival in the opposite corner and its a fight that will make his legacy. The Juarez rematch he wanted to box to make a point , here , he is ready for a war and the intensity will be back . His focus which was lacking in the Juarez 1 and the Pac fight will definatley show in this fight . He hasnt had his training interupted . He hasnt had to come down in weight after preparing for another opponent . This time Barrera has been training for Marquez and has done everything right so expect the best from him , yet again proving all the people that doubt him , wrong .
Marquez has it all to prove . He has been trying to be more assertive recently and he intends to bring the fight to Barrera which will play right into Marcos hands. We know Marco has been training for speed and his quicker hands could be what seperates them. In a battle of the jabs Marco is a converted southpaw so he'll have more power and snap in his left hands . Up close on the inside I see Marco getting the upperhand there too as his body punching and combinations are superior. Marquez to win has to establish his rythm and be quick out the blocks. On paper theres nothing to suggest that Marquez can beat a name like Barrera . He has never won a superfight in his life but Mraco has been winning them for years. However if the right Marquez turns up he is good enough to make it a tough hard fight . I just dont think he has Barreras warrior spirit or fire and if he did, we would have seen it by now .

I dont think Barrera will adopt s**t or bust tactics but I do think he will come out fast in his old crouched Mexican style and start assertively. Ive seen his training videos and his posture so he's definatley guna have a positive attitude.
Just look at his 3rd fight with Morales. After the Ayala fight and years of being a casual boxer , nobody believed he was guna start the 1st round of the decider like that ( agressively ) He took the fight to Morales from the start as he needed to make a statement in a what looked like being a 12 round battle . Its exactly the same set up here. Marquez is likely to be there for the full 12 . Barrera knows he is stronger and knows he needs to knock him off his gameplan just like he did with Erik. When he faces a boxer and especially a Mexican rival Barrera puts more emphasis on his combos and uses his advantages in speed. Forget what Marquez' plans are going into the fight as from the 1st round he will be reacting to what Barrera does . I dont belive that Barrera at this age will be able to keep these tactics up for the whole 12 rounds but he doesnt intend to , after 3 rounds I reckon he will change what he does to keep Marquez guessing all night . He will box fight Marquez and up the pace accordingly . Juan will be stuck between styles and may have some facial damage after the quick start by Marco . IMO Marquez although extemely competative will always be slightly trailing in the fight and never establish the driving seat just as Erik couldnt in their decider. Marquez I dont think has the ability to fight in the trenches like Morales did and it will suit Barrera who wont be pushed as hard and forced to breathe so heavily through exhaustion . Marquez though will be harder to hit so it will be more of a stand off than a war.Marquez has never liked getting hit and will think twice about rushing in once he feels the power and speed of Barrera .
I firmly believe Barrera will take control early on from the 1st round and never allow Marquez to take the initiative. It wont be a shut out or masterclass but inteligent boxing from Barrera as he negotiates the distance using his experience to his advantge . They say horses for courses and Barrera will adopt the right tactics to ensure victory here.I think it will be scores of around 115-113 , 116-113, 116-112.

That is one of the fascinating aspects of this fight. You could be wrong, just as I could. Barrera has fought safe for 2 fights and that has people questioning his his remaining heart. Juarez was easy really, no need to overstretch...now if needed to stretch can MAB do it? I think so, a really impressive performance next weekend will make waves. But my prediction is no prophecy, we must wait and see and I cannot wait! ;D

I hope you are correct in your thinking....but the unknown element makes this fight intriguing. Lets face it, we dont know how either is gonna show up....
I cannot wait!!!! :D
Re: So with a week to go...who wins Barrera or Marquez?
Interesting, this fight has not been hyped anywhere near as much as I thought it would be. I fancy JMM. Although he has been more agressive in his last few fights.and shown his fast hands and awesome power in both hands,he can still fight going backwards. As can MAB! There are so many variables here and I could be here all days discussing them but I think MAB boxes,JMM catches him,MAB tastes the power, tries to go to war and loses. I believe Marqeuz has more in the tank than MAB,he's hardly been in any wars at all, and I just believe he has the tools to upset MAB.
And I totally diagee on some of your points brother GAME,JMM can go to the trenches as he has shown against the tough tough Pacquiao,in his last 2 fights too. It must be super interesting to see how these guys are preparing for each other because they will need to spar counter punchers, hard hitters, boxers.
This fight has the potential to be a fight of the year. People are talking about Winy and B Hop's technical skills, these 2 match them for skill but also have that bit of machsimo in them. I hope we see a blend of boxing and warring! Should be a cracker,JMM SD.
Re: So with a week to go...who wins Barrera or Marquez?
